i'm a writer irl (can't say who because my agent would rightfully put me into a blender and press the button if i go and out myself as "balrogballs") and honestly the funniest and most humiliating incident of my life was the time my finished manuscript triggered a plagiarism flag with the publisher for two lines of prose in my literary fiction novel...

.... which was word for word similar to a paragraph in a certain explicit work on FFN starring elrond and his batsman from the hobbit films, aka that one elf that looked like he ate panic attacks for breakfast (i forget his name but it's Figwit II) where the lord of imladris bends said twink over his writing desk and gives him the battering ram treatment.

and if you think i had to sit in front of one if the biggest publishing companies in the world and admit that it was, in fact, me who wrote the fic where the lord of imladris bends said twink over his writing desk and gives him the battering ram treatment in order to avoid being wrongly flagged for plagiarism, you would be absolutely correct.

(yes they published the book)

ELODIE IS NOT DEAD

I’m placing my bet today, the 4th of May in the year of our Lord 2024, that Elodie Moreau is not dead.

We have seen no body, we have been given no evidence, we’ve heard no reasonings or happenings. We have been told nothing other than a smoke-and-mirrors classic diversion tactic let-him-assume-she’s-dead-because-the-truth-is-probably-worse vague non-answer from a British mafia boss who deals in secrets, lies, and manipulations. I do not believe him and refuse to accept she’s dead until irrefutable proof is provided.

Now I just have to sit and agonizingly wait to be proven correct.

Okay, maybe it’s the obscene amount of fanfiction I have read but I think this seemingly unimportant one off mention of Ichirou’s engagement is gonna come into play in a big way later on.

My hope… Maybe he’s marrying a Hatford thinking it’ll join the two families together and he’ll be in charge of both but really she is playing out the long-con and is actually dismantling the Moriyama empire from the inside and slowly gaining everyone’s loyalty so that when she finally merks Ichirou she takes over it all and officially frees Jean, Neil, and Kevin from their contracts and they all actually live happily ever after!!

For the smallest of seconds I was thinking maybe Ichirou’s fiancé could be Elodie in the most epic “I’m-not-actually-dead” plot twist but then I remembered that if she is in fact alive (which I will hold out hope for until I see a body) she is only 15 years old and I NOPE NOPE NOPED right off of that train of thought.

I jumped off that train just to get hit with another one…

What if Ichirou is sick and twisted enough to go after a minor? Or what if, somehow Elodie pulled a Neil Josten and disguised herself and faked her age in order to infiltrate the Moriyama empire in order to enact the previously mentioned long-con?? Or… OR!!!! what if Elodie is actually the local mercenary that Stuart Hatford hired upon Neil’s request and he told Jean she was dead but meant it in a more metaphorical way, like the Elodie Jean used to know is dead because she’s now a cold blooded killer???

Wow. I’ve fallen into a rabbit hole and I can’t get up. Would anyone like to join me?
