The size difference between pre vs post time skip Crocodile really makes me feel like he was Not Okay in Alabasta.

Yes, I know Oda and Toei are inconsistent with character sizes because of the stylization and how it’s used for impact shots and the like, but let me have this one. He was not well. Not physically, not emotionally, not mentally.

He was thin as a stick, anemic gray, and folded like laundry in a fair fight. His first gut reaction to seeing someone bright-eyed and hopeful is to crush them out of bitterness. He smokes like a chimney, intentionally emotionally isolates himself, and throws himself into fights he knows he can’t win in startling acts of self-destruction.

He was sick, or at the very least sicker than he is now.
