Pottery is a curious thing.
Unexpectedly, Haru has come to love the feel of clay in his hands. It’s different from water, of course, rigid and resistant, though soft and malleable before it’s fired. It’s the very earth itself, and Haru likes that, too.
There is, however, a chaos and unpredictability to the process, and he’s still learning to accept this. A vase standing tall and strong can suddenly collapse into a pile on the wheel. A mug crafted so steadfastly can explode in the kiln. A glaze selected with confidence can create a color that had not been part of the plan at all.
Haru wraps his hands around the cylinder spinning quickly on the wheel in front of him as he finishes molding its shape, finally satisfied with the thickness of the walls. Its weight should match the other three cups sitting on the table beside him.
The wheel slows to a stop, and Haru carefully slides the thin wire under this fourth and final piece in the set to release it from the base. Now that it’s in line beside the others, it’s noticeably a little taller. Even though these cups are simply a gift for a friend, Haru can’t help but strive for perfection and considers throwing it again.
Across the yard from where Haru sits in his workshop, a figure in the kitchen window catches his eye to distract him from contemplating any further, at least for the time being. As usual, time has passed quickly into the afternoon, and Makoto has just returned home from work. Haru knows Makoto would insist that Haru’s creations don’t all have to be perfect, that those imperfections themselves can add beauty, too.
Haru smiles watching as Makoto bends down and gets back up, his eyes not leaving the floor. He’s definitely greeting their two cats. Feeling Haru’s gaze, or maybe just knowing he’d be out in the workshop, Makoto looks out the window.
I'm home, Haru-chan, he says with a cheerful smile and a wave.
Haru lifts his hand to return the silent greeting: Welcome home, Makoto.

MakoHaru Fanfiction: I'll Be Home for Christmas
Title: I'll Be Home for Christmas Rating: G Main Tags: Established Relationship, Fluff, Christmas Fluff, Married Couple Summary: With the busy schedule the two kept, spending various holidays apart was nothing new to Haru and Makoto. They simply celebrated whenever the two were both home. However, one not-so-tiny difference this Christmas has Makoto wishing that Haru was home, and not miles and miles away...
In which Makoto makes some Christmas cookies, and Haru makes some Christmas magic happen.
-
“Are you sure you’re alright by yourself?”
Makoto smiled into his phone as Nagisa repeated this query for the 3rd time since their phone conversation began. “Thank you, Nagisa,” he reiterated, “but you don’t have to worry; I’ll be fine! It’s just one more night, anyways,” he tried to say casually, though he knew Nagisa could see through his bravado anyways.
“But—” Nagisa started to say, but instead decided it was best at this moment to honor his friend’s wishes. “All right. But call me if you change your mind!” he insisted, and Makoto voiced his agreement before hanging up the phone.
Both Nagisa and Makoto knew he wasn’t going to change his mind, though Makoto was grateful for Nagisa’s well-meaning intentions. It was Christmas Eve, and Haru had been away the past several days at a last-minute-scheduled competition out of the country. He wasn’t expected to be home until tomorrow night. But being apart from each other on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas was nothing new to the pair; with the busy schedule they kept, some years it was just something that couldn’t be avoided. They simply celebrated together once they were both home. So, this was nothing out of the ordinary for the two of them.
Except this year, there was one not-so-tiny difference. This would be their first married Christmas together.

You Make Everything Okay
Author: DatHeetJoella Fandom: Free! Pairing: MakoHaru Rating: M Summary: Unlike most people, Haruka wasn’t very eager to meet his soulmate. Half of the reason was his inexplicable infatuation with a stranger he saw on the train every morning, the other half was the words that were imprinted on his skin; the first words his soulmate would say to him. They were… ominous.
When Haruka’s absent-mindedness got him into trouble, he had to deal with the unforeseen - but not at all unpleasant - consequences. Or, how getting involved in a car accident became the best thing that ever happened to Haruka.
Word count: 10,011 (total: 199,584) Chapter: 31/32 Chapter summary: With the sculpture, a tupperware of curry and an explanation, Haruka arrives at Makoto’s apartment.
---------------------------
Chapter 31: Make Everything Okay Again
With his heart pounding against his ribcage like a sledgehammer and his lungs aching for air, Haruka arrived at Makoto’s building.
Seventeen weeks had passed since he first scaled these stairs, since he picked up Makoto’s stuff and brought them to the hospital for him, since he convinced Makoto to move in with him. Now, Haruka was going to get him back.

MakoHaru Fanfiction: Hashtag Haru-chan
Title: Hashtag Haru-chan Rating: T Main Tags: Established Relationship, Fluff and Humor, Future Fic, Zine: Eternal Future Summary: When Makoto slips and reporters catch him calling Haru by his nickname 'Haru-chan,' the social media universe does not sleep on it, and a new tag rapidly starts trending like wildfire. Can the #haruchan craze be reversed, or is Makoto doomed?
-
Cameras flashed and the crowd cheered wildly as professional swimmer Haruka Nanase finished his race in first yet again, gaining his second gold medal of the tournament. As he came up for air and looked at the leaderboard, the photographers and reporters nearby didn’t miss the smile he couldn’t contain. They also didn’t miss the even wider smile of his trainer, Makoto Tachibana, as he rushed over to help him out of the pool.
Makoto continued beaming as he bent down to extend his hand to Haru like usual. “That was amazing, Haru-chan! You’re on fire today!”
Haru, too, was so happy that he didn’t even care about Makoto’s use of his nickname in this situation, but he felt compelled to give his trademark response anyway. He met Makoto’s eyes with a small, private smile as he reached for his hand. “I told you, drop the—”
“Haru-chan? Tachibana-san, is that your nickname for Nanase-san?’’
“Nanase-san, do you go by a nickname?”
As Makoto pulled Haru out of the pool, he could see blue ice starting to form in Haru’s now-chilly gaze. A splash of dread trickled down Makoto’s spine. Oh no.

--------------------------------
Chapter 28: One Goodbye Too Many
By the time Makoto came back from the vending machine, Haruka was able to regain most of his composure.
He didn’t want the last days of such an amazing trip to be ruined, therefore he’d convinced himself it wouldn’t be that bad. Makoto would be a single train stop away and they could meet up whenever they wanted. Before the accident, Haruka lived on his own for over a year so he shouldn’t have a hard time adjusting to Makoto being gone. After such a busy summer, he might’ve been relieved to have the house to himself, to be truly alone for the first time in months. He always treasured his alone time, so this would be a nice breather - but deep down, he knew he was lying to himself.
