I don’t think their tank needs to be that big. Me and my brother each had a beta fish when we were young and we kept them in what was probably a 3 gallon tank with a split in the middle so they didn’t kill each other. Bettas are aggressive with other bettas.

Google is telling me that 2.5 gallons is the absolute bare minimum for a single betta, but 5 gallons is far better.
