theme two: airlock by ebrothemes
live previews: (one) (two) / install: (github)
this theme was designed around wanting a simple theme with only 2 colors and options for a couple photos in the sidebars, that also supports photosets with a carousel lightbox (ideal for gifsets) and has a night mode toggle. i'm really happy with it, and it definitely works a lot better than my past themes/pages. it should work well for both text-heavy and photo-heavy blogs.
features:
responsive
NPF post support
day/night mode toggle
2 custom colors (day/night mode colors can be different)
540px posts (option for 400px, 450px, and 500px, but it was designed at and works best with 540px)
custom text like and reblog buttons
optional photo in right sidebar
8 body font options with even more customization options for font size and heading fonts
up to 4 custom links
carousel lightbox for photosets
credits in the code as well as here
please like/reblog if you use

#ms paint art#original characters#suggestive#ate with this one#haven't drawn in a while so I'm glad#though it would be interesting if I left the sketch but only in the areas where there would be shade#experimented with felix's nose shape in this one (left)#I didn't really like how she looked with a regular button nose + a round face and big eyes#kind of boring and also hard to make look right#I think the little nose bump really helps it adds some structure to her face#the pose interacts a bit awkwardly with the bed so to compensate i gave her like 50 pillows#that's canon now#no id

I SAW THE LOW POLY THING ON TWITTER CAN YOU ERXLAIN HOW U DID IT PLEASEREERE I BEGGGGGG
alrit. heres a guide on how i did these low-poly freaks
first is. using the polyline drawing tool, draw the shape of the object. try to use as little points as possible
second. turn the alpha lock on and shade the object, preferably using the airbrush
third. use pixelization filter with alpha lock still ON (so the outline doesn't pixelize as well)
fourth. use posterization filter for silly colors
boom youre done. i hope it was helpful

shitty draft of a comic
#inspired by smth my irl partner said to me lol#I didn't make this with the intention to post it#it was just me planning out a comic idea to properly make later#but I've decided I'd rather get shit unfinished versions of my ideas out there#since realistically I'll probably never get round to making the 'real' comic#still unsure what to do about this blog but the same philosophy applies#may as well post on an 'imperfect' blog until i'm able to properly reorganise things#comics#original characters#oc art#charactions

In your view/experience. is the rate of "incompleteness" among webcomics more or less the nature of online personal projects as a whole? Or is there something specific to webcomics like laboriousness, audience expectations, relative medium infancy or whatnot?
well for one thing webcomics has changed significantly in the last ten years. it used to have a much lower barrier for entry, just get a smackjeeves account or set up a website with a wordpress plugin. starting a webcomic when i started my webcomic vs starting a webcomic now are totally different experiences.
so i can only speak to people who started their webcomics roughly ten years ago. and roughly ten years ago a lot of us were a whole lot younger with a lot more time and energy to spend on a comic for free. this part is probably still somewhat true for new artists.
but then you get older. your ideas change. your skill develops and the old stuff isn't as good. or you don't have as much time, you got a day job. unless you're one of like five people on earth your webcomic is not paying your rent. you need to make money. your shoulder hurts. you're 30 now. you're struggling to make updates on time between whatever else makes you happy and what else you need to do to live. you wrote this story when you were 21, you don't relate to it anymore, you have different ideas, you've grown up, your audience has noticeably dropped off from the peak, social media managing is hard, you have to go to work, you're so tired, all the time.
it's a lot of things.

tips for getting people to like your ocs
*disclaimer: this is based on what’s worked for me, aka an artist that likes to make comics/storyboards. so this advice is directed at people who do that
you can do things like this:
Which is fun! Character sheets like this are great, especially for personal reference! But frankly, I don’t think most people engage with this (at least I personally don’t). You could have the coolest character in the world, but it will be harder for most people to feel invested when they’re presented so neutrally like this.
My main piece of advice is: get better at writing.
That might sound harsh when said like that, but let me explain what I mean! (Not trying to imply you’re bad at writing either!)
What I tend to do is just throw characters into situations with as little handholding as I can. Give enough context that readers can follow along, but don’t feel like they’re being explained to.
what can you learn about the characters through their designs alone? (age, personality, economic status, occupation, etc)
what can you learn about the characters’ relationship though their interactions alone? (are they close? familial? romantic? is there hostility? are they tense/relaxed?)
what are the characters currently doing? what were they doing previously (how long have they been talking)? what are they going to do next? can you convey this without dialogue?
how do they feel about what they are doing? are they content? focused? over/understimulated? would they rather be doing something else?
where are they? does it matter? would establishing a setting in at least one panel clarify the scene? is there anything in the enviroment that could tell some of the story?
what time of day is it? what time of year is it? what is the weather like?
Now, with all this in mind, I'm going to give you another example. I'm going to use completely brand new characters for the sake of the experiment, so you won't have any bias (aka I can’t use Protagonist from above, since you already know all about him).
Did this get more of an emotional response from you than the first example? Why do you think so? Who are these characters? How do they know each other? What else can you infer about them? What happened? Who is "she"?
Now, you don't have to actually answer all those questions. But think about them! You can tell people a whole lot about your characters without ever showing them a list of their likes and dislikes.
Obviously, comics aren't the only way to get people invested in your original characters! But regardless, easily digestible formats will grab people's attention faster than huge blocks of text, and comics are a lot less work than doing wholeass storyboards.
Now go and share your ocs with the world!!!

i have a headache
#i've been stuck scrolling instagram for the past few days#i don't even like being on there#modern ig is so overstimulating everything is either a reel or a reel in disguise or an image post that inexplicably has audio#i kept making myself go on there because i wanted to find a way to make art friends or a community or w/e#and i thought if i had more of a presence and interacted more i'd eventually get people to like. talk to me and comment stuff ig. idk#but ughhhh#i don't think insta is a good platform for that cause it's either pictures with a short caption or the worst media format known to man#like. idk i wanted to find and follow and be friends with and be Cool Artists (don't ask me to define that)#but no artist on instagram is a Cool Artist because there's no goddamn text on there#like if it makes sense i wanna find people who talk About art as well#but not in an art Discourse way#which is another thing. even if instagram had more Talking it would still be shit because the mainstream 'art community' is insufferable#art tiktok is that on steroids#and instagram is is bootleg tiktok#the same five discourse topics jokes memes advice whatever the only difference is now they're circlejerking about ai too#i wanna be Casual and Spontaenous and Mysterious and shit but IG's layout makes me feel like i can't just post whatever#i feel this pressure to give my posts all the same format and add tags and do this and do that and have good Branding or w/e#and it's just ughhh why can't I be a famous enigma (<- doesn't make or share anything)#even on tumblr the pressure is the same#and at the same time i hate looking back on my art accounts (both ig and here) because it just. doesn't align with what i wanna do#like my attempts at categorising and tagging and being consistent#it's just so. yuck#i want to have a Good Brand but i also want to be 'real' but then i look back at my disjointed messy past work and i cringe#i think i need to block my irls from my art accounts bc i feel super embarassed trying to do any typical Get Noticed on Social Media thing#cause it feels embarassing being seen doing shit that's ''influencer-y'' (idk what to call it)#cause it feels out of character to how i actually am in real life#but also why i do want to show my ''real'' character? I'm not cool#and that's another thing I've had these accounts for ages#looking at my past posts makes me fuckign cringe#I want to purge them or start over

Im the guy who likes mold, i feel ok enough to come off anon now that i know u agree lol idkkkk its so attractive i have a mushroom guide book and i used to pick mushrooms and stuff that reminded me of my bf and id draw him covered in mushrooms and mold and stuff. Very fun to draw. Its all very pretty and i thought literally no one agreed with me cause i could not find anyything of people talking about it
that's so cute and romantic <3 i love fungi and mold and decay.... like aesthetically it's all very beautiful, but there's also something exciting about the instinctual disgust reaction that goes along with rot. mold specifically is hot to me for a lot of the same reasons that make infection and contamination and parasitism hot. be careful babe or i'll bloom inside you and make you sick!
#.. i should draw more infection and disease#it's not 'hot' to me I just think it's sick (heh)#Not Art™
