As for Mmh, I’m enjoying the absolute run but it’s a little freaky if you aren’t used to j’onn. The recent JL unlimited run has a bit of spotlight on j’onn in a few issue. The Mmh run by Steve Orlando is a good read too. He’s especially funny (and done with the team) in JL international. And one little throwaway but the the dc spring breakout special he does community theatre.

Well still a red but the shade maroon as its like dried blood.

Pink could also have a strong association with him, they’re wasn’t a binary on who wore pink like nowadays but symbolically I can see it due to its connections with love and passion.

Most metallic colours but mostly bronze or gold to be associated with the armor and weapons of ares.

Purple would also be a good contender as it’s usually it’s a signifier of a higher status/royalty and ares is technically a prince but you know he’s also a god.

If you take a more modern war interpretation, shades of green and brown are more common to see associated.

Besides red, is there any other color that can represent Ares?

Dr. Stone & their flowers

I don't usually give a rant about merch but need to spread what might possibly be the best and most thought through merch of any anime, any media, ever.

And that is the Dr. Stone botania series.

What makes this merch so amazing is that whoever chose the flower for each character. did. not. miss. it’s impressive and frankly filled with way more effort than they were likely payed for. This is assuming that anyone actually put thought into the flower meanings. But once you see their meanings it’s hard not to think some genuine intention was put into this.

(Also the flowers weren’t listed so I made some guesses on what they were so if you think it’s something else, please let me know)

Francois: Petunia

Desire and Hope

Francois much like her master desires and hopes for a future of greed (justice).

Hyoga: Hydrangea

Honest emotions, persevering, vanity, boastfullness

There’s definitely and air of confidence, though it’s not misplaced. He’s a strong fighter with smart strategies. He’s also rather blunt and doesn’t waste his time, mind, or care.

Ukyo: Gerbera

Innocence, purity, cheerfulness, beauty

Ukyo greatest wish going forward was no one dies. It’s an ideal that one might view naive and unrealistic. There’s an earnest innocence to it, that everyone around him respects.

Ryusui: California Poppy

Peace, pleasure, hope, resilience

Ryusui is a force of passion and desire. Even in his greed there’s still a benevolence to him. Dropped in a new world, faced with a new challenge, he is focused on moving forward, for his own desires of course.

Suika: Sunflower

Faithfulness, worship, adoration, loyalty

Who else but the great detective and Senku ishigami’s apprentice to embody the first flowers she saw without the fuzzy sickness. She is continually a member the team can depend upon. Not only that but she looks up to everyone, especially Kohaku and Senku.

Chrome: Sage

Wisdom, thoughtfulness, health

Even though he may not be viewed as such he is still incredibly smart and capable. A skilled adventurer, geologist, and scientist. Not to mention his determination to help cure ruri.

Gen: Clematis

Artifice, ingenuity, mental beauty

The employee who chose this was laughing their ass off, slapping their knee, high-fiving their coworker. For those who don’t know, artifice means trickery, cunning, craftiness. As the king of bastardry, the shallow mentalist fits this flower perfectly. His persuasion and physcoanalysis have been a great asset to the kingdom.

Kohaku: Hibiscus

Beauty, charm, youth

She is beauty, she is charm, call her lioness and she’ll cause bodily harm. All seriousness she brings such strength and heart into the group.

Senku: Olive blossom

Peace

I can’t express how emotional this made me. No qualities of ingenuity or wisdom. Not even desire or passion we’re listed. It’s pure and simple, peace. So straightforward I think Senku would appreciate it. Science is his passion and his method towards it. He ultimately wants a world of science, of peace

This feels like good time to bring up this:

Ares, patron god of (dance) battles

Greek Dances

...Another random thought. Just bear with me please. What if the Olympians had certain dance styles that are from our time that were their favorites (in other words, I'm not just saying, they dance. I want specifics)? Here's what I came up with.

Athena - River dancing because her feet can do whatever they want while her hands are free. Now, she can read a book or work on weaving (or stab someone. The options are limitless). I'm just imagining this plus whatever she's holding.

Ares - Paso doble because it's fiery and I can see him pulling off the passion you need to make it look convincing. Besides, he can do it with Aphrodite and she's the only one who gets him to like dancing anyway. This would be the two of them.

Aphrodite - Tango because it's spicy. She does this with Ares any and every chance she gets. Doesn't even matter if they've got other stuff going on. I can see it playing out exactly like this video, including the people watching being the Olympians.

Hermes - Quick step because...well, it's quick. Still actually not quick enough for him, but he'd fly through it. If you put this at 2x speed, this is what I had in mind.

Artemis - Hip-hop has a rough enough edge that I can see it working for her. She could be outside, hunting and then just randomly start doing this when the thud of the animals hitting the ground makes a nice beat.

Apollo -Modern/lyrical/contemporary dance (or whatever this is) because it seems very athletic, artsy, and also very dramatic. Apollo, the athletic, artsy, drama queen is how I see him.

Hestia - Ballet because it's very proper and elegant. She's so pure that she could be the perfect ballerina. It's probably the only time she isn't working with the hearth too. This would be her.

Demeter - Contemporary because I feel like this one is so expressive and she'd really need it to get out her frustration (let's be real. Her "life" pretty much has sucked since forever). Let her have some emotional release in the form of this (extra points if Persephone is the one with her)

Zeus - Jazz because it's a combination of grace and athleticism...actually, because he can either do jazz alone or with a partner and it's got just enough flair that his ego will be inflated. He might have regular one-man shows like this. He does jazz hands way too much.

Poseidon - Hivinau mostly because it's from an island (Tahiti to be precise. I'll be including it in a book next year!) and I see him always being on the beaches. So, he can do this with some people and nymphs.

Hades - Tap because he can seem really subdued at first and mild-mannered as he gets in these clean taps, then just shock his family by being amazing out of the blue. So, this would be him.

Hera - Waltz, particularly something like a traditional waltz since it supposedly can't be danced without a partner. Just seems to fit with her. She can pretend that she has her happy marriage while doing this.

Dionysus - Sorta tap, but specifically the kind that Ray Bolger and Dick Van Dyke sometimes did where it looked like they were out of it. This is what he'd be doing after a few too many drinks.

Hephaestus - Macarena because one of his siblings taught it to him and now he loves it (but he WILL deny it with his very being if questioned.) Sometimes, after a long day of crafting, he can be caught listening to music and doing this.

One thing to point out but w/ Ultimate Spider-Man, the show doesn’t start at his origin but months maybe even a year into his ‘heroing’. At the point Fury reached out to him he’d been doing this pretty efficiently and alone.

And to your last point, spidey is a teenager but also has immeasurable power. The people around him who know both sides, don’t know what to do with that. They forget he’s a teenager yet remind him of it constantly. They shoulder the weight of an entire team onto him.

Then of course his character gets disrespected by teammates and adults and yeah I’m not surprised he’s a bit jaded or spiteful.

You know I realised something today. There’s a stark contrast between the animated versions of Spider-Man/ Peter Parker and the movie versions

Like we know Peter is hella awkward and he is kind. With or without the suit, his personality is mixed with confident and awkward. But ultimate Spider-Man is a completely different breed. Most of the time rude and hella arrogant. Ultimate Peter was so spiteful it’s hilarious. Spectacular Spider-Man wasn’t quite like Ultimate Spider-Man but there are some parts worth noting.

Peter in the movies is devoted to one girl. MJ or Gwen. Spectacular Peter?? Man had four women. MJ, Gwen, that one cheerleader and mf black cat. Ultimate Peter tho was hella gay for Harry. He rather spent time with him than the gang.

Spider-Man in the movies was quite humble. They knew not to push it. Just stay as Friendly Neighbourhood Spiderman. Minus Tom. He was pulled into the big leagues. He didn’t want it at first. Tom’s Spidey was hella awkward with Tony too at first. He acknowledges him as someone with high authority. Hell, he wouldn’t even think of himself standing next to Tony when suddenly the man himself appears in his apartment

Ultimate Spidey? Every time he sees Tony Stark, he is imagining himself as a higher ranked person if he is alongside Tony. But the fanboying stays atleast. You can tell he’s quite arrogant here.

Not to mention, he’s a spiteful man. I remember there was one scene he’s talking to Fury and Fury tells him not to be late. Then he’s all like “You don’t have to teach me something I already know!” or something like that. Then he storms out like a kid with a tantrum and the door closes after he leaves. Then Fury just says “Teenagers” and Peter with his enhanced hearing obviously heard that. The man opens the door, webs both sides and pulls it, smashing the door, just to prove Fury’s point of ‘Yes I’m the average teenager full of spite’

It’s hilarious.

(I just love ultimate Spider-Man. He’s so overhated.)

absolutely obsessed with the fact that tsukki works in a museum + is still in university post timeskip because it highly indicates that he absolutely will end up living a double life. personally I am of the persuasian that tsukki goes on to get a masters / eventual doctorate in history (and/or an adjacent field, like archeology, paleontology, anthropology, you get the vibes)

but like I imagine the fucking Sendai Frogs (or any of his volleyball friends) dont exactly enjoy chatting about 9th century kings or 12th century architecture so it just never comes up. except for when tsukki tells them he's going to be missing practice because he's flying to China to a few small villages with local churches and temples to study old medical records and put together a timeline of the opiod wars in less documented places and the rest of the Frogs are just like !!!!!!!!!!! you're doing what now????? and he's just like yeah its a government grant :/ but it'll be nice to get published in this journal and then all of his teammates go home and google him and find the half dozen articles he's published that high school students are citing in their research papers

but then when he's working in the archives and reading through old newspapers a coworker of his comes down and is like "hey kei would you be able to fill in for a docent that called in sick tomorrow? we just need someone to lead a few tours" and tsukki is like "sorry, I booked that time off. the d2 volleyball league starts tomorrow." and the coworker is just like. what?
