Oh My Goodness...

I think this might turn out to be a long-ish post but even though its only been 1 season, I already adore Lance,Hunk, and Allura. Growing up, I didn’t have a lot of cartoon characters that looked like me or that I could relate to if they did. Either there were no black girls or if there was a token one, she seemed to be really stereotypical or just the opposite of me and I didn’t feel attached to her. So many characters I loved when I was younger, I had to overlook that they didn’t look like me and it hurt. Then voltron came out this year and I fell in love. Allura, a dark-skinned girl who’s kind, strong, not afraid to show emotion and a princess as well. To see a girl that looks like you but in such a high position felt good. And then Lance is this seemingly arrogant goofball but he’s also the one who probably shows the most emotion and him tearing up from missing his family and what the directors were saying about his “confidence” shows that there’s more to him and I can’t wait to explore his character more. And finally Hunk, to have a bigger character that can be silly and so relatable but also have more depth to him with not only being fiercely kind but also so smart and loyal is so refreshing to see. He’s not just a dumb big character and that’s something that the media doesn’t show often. This has gotten really long and don’t get me wrong I love the other characters as well. But seeing dark-skinned characters with different personalities but all being well-written and having so much potential for good development is really nice to see.
