I only sing because you loved me. Only because you loved me I was born. Only for your special love Dawn gave roses in my hands. To illuminate for a moment your way, night filled my eyes with stars.

“I bleed sir, but not killed.” (5.2.339)
26
Although Snakes are often associated with evil, they also have historically been associated with healing and rebirth because they shed their skin, revealing a new layer underneath.  Unlike the snake, I see no such regeneration in my future.  I feel now I am trapped as I am, in an old skin that does not serve me any longer, not able to be killed or start again.

“But did you ever tell him she was false?” (5.2.214)
“I did.” (5.2.215)
25
I told many lies in an effort to gain what to me seemed of the utmost importance.  This, however, is the truth: I feel no regret for what I have done.  Whether or not that is the “proper” answer is irrelevant.  I feel no regret and I will not stop yet.  My wife is foolish; she never understood matters such as these, not really.  None ever do.  Why does she attack me so?  I am her husband.  Her first duty is to me, not to Desdemona.  I fear she now poses a very prominent complication.  Something must be done about her.

“Thou art rash as fire to say / That she was false” (5.2.165)
24
The Moor’s jealousy has erupted.  He was indeed “rash as fire” (5.2.165).  Never did he stop to think about his actions, rather he forged ahead already convinced of an imagined crime.  He has suffocated his loving wife, who was nothing but true to him, and now he even admits it for mine own awful wife to hear.  It ‘twas not my plan, to kill her so, but I was not the one who did the deed.  Othello was.  Never did I force him to do anything but think.  I may have hinted and even lied, but who was he to trust me?  He did not trust me enough before, when he failed to make me his lieutenant.  Then he put total faith in me as soon as I offered my damning idea.  It is almost as if the Moor sought out betrayal.  But now... my Emilia, what on earth have you done?  You have planted another seed of doubt in the Moor’s head.  How you could betray me as you did?  Yes, “thy husband” (5.2.172), you silly woman.  I should have known you would cause trouble.

“This is the night / That either makes me or [destroys] me quite.” (5.2.150-1)
23
I can only hope I rid myself of two pains tonight.  The first being Michael Cassio, the general’s esteemed lieutenant who fell from grace.  A man whom I loved wholeheartedly and did all I could to restore, but found he was not honest.  And the second being my dearest friend Roderigo, who foolishly followed the heavenly Desdemona here to Cyprus.  He has put his full trust in me, I can only hope it is enough now.

“He is much changed.” (4.1.304-5)
“He’s that he is.” (4.1.307)
22
Othello is not a new man.  He is the same as he ever was.  Trials and tribulations only serve to reveal a person’s true nature.  From the very beginning, I saw that Othello was an honest man.  While I rejoiced in my ability to hide my true intentions, he relied on his upright character and actions.  Now, however, he has sacrificed his morality in order to exact revenge for a crime never committed.  Othello is not a bad man, he is a foolish one, blinded by ideas, he never sought the truth.

“Do it not with poison.  Strangle her in her bed, / even the bed she hath contaminated” (4.1.228-9)
“The justice of it pleases” (4.1.230)
21
How easy it was to turn Othello!  The small seed of doubt which I planted so carefully in his head has grown into an unmanageable forest.  His jealousy and hatred have overwhelmed all else.  No longer is he even capable of rational thought.  He is now focused on vengeance.  Othello, who was so innocent in the beginning has now fallen to pieces, attempting to disprove another’s same innocence.  The justice of it pleases.
Because of Othello’s intense jealousy, Desdemona now suffocates, trapped in the Moor’s stifling jealousy.  It is strange, he seems to hold more anger in his heart for his beloved Desdemon than for Cassio, I would have thought his love for her might have caused him to steer his focus more towards Cassio, yet he seems fixed on her.  Perhaps it is because he loved her so.  or perhaps it was because he feared she was unfaithful from the very beginning.  I was never sure of that.  She fell for him so quickly and he himself knows she is so much better a soul than he could ever hope to be.  Regardless, all that is left is to set the forest ablaze so that we may destroy all remnants of this imagined sin.

“Do not rise yet ... / Witness, you ever-burning lights above, / You elements that clip us round about, / Witness that here Iago doth give up / The execution of his wit, hands, heart / To wronged Othello’s service!  Let him command, / And to obey shall be in me remorse, / What bloody business ever.” (3.4.525-32)
20
I pledged to aid Othello with all my power as if I were making a wedding vow.  It is almost as if Othello voluntarily left Desdemona for me and what I said.  I never gave true evidence, because there is no truth in the matter, yet Othello sought it out as if he were some monster hunting down his prey.  He welcomed me and my ideas freely.  The Moor truly is too trusting.  This love which we have for each other is not true on my part.  It is a manufactured simulation of love.  My heart is not true.  My hands are not with his.  My wit was the only subject who ever lied and wronged Othello.  Yet he trusts them all.

“The Moor already changes with my poison” (3.3.373)
19
I have caught up the Moor in a handsome trap.  So well-fashioned, that he holds not one thought in his head contrary to his trust in me.  He is obsessed.  All he now does is plead for proof.  “Ha, ha, false to me?” (3.3.383)

Do I believe Desdemona would ever betray or deceive Othello?  No.
Am I succeeding elegantly in making Othello believe she would? You can see for yourself...

“Wear your eyes thus, not jealous nor secure” (3.3.229)
16
Othello says he will not “from [his] own weak merits ... draw / The smallest fear or doubt of [Desdemona’s] revolt (3.3.218-9), yet he continues to badger me for answers and searches for proof.  He already appears most put off by my comments and I feel I was quite right in noting his insecurity.  I tell him simply to observe her with Cassio.  I know he will pick apart every moment and will certainly find something enough, just as I did, to pass a strong judgement.  He is a very trusting man, but if I show him some small proof of an affair between Cassio and Desdemona, I am sure I can shift his trust away from them and onto me.

“My lord, you know I love you” (3.3.134)
14
Othello thinks me his honest and loving friend, raising him up from ignorance and showing him the truth.  I am doing the opposite.  I held him over a pit of jealousy and now I am letting him go.  He asked me to.  He implores me to “give [my] worst of thoughts” (3.3.153-4), and I certainly will. The question is whether or not these thoughts hold truth.

“But for satisfaction of my thought, / No further harm.” (3.3.108-9)
13
One might think, that for all the Moor’s hardships, he might have at least lost his naivety.  But no, he suspects me of nothing despite how he treated and slighted me in choosing Cassio to be his lieutenant.  It might not be difficult to gain the Moor’s complete trust but now I must guarantee it is just as easy to loose it.

“Ha, I like not that.” (3.3.37)
12
Now it truly begins.  With so simple a sentence I have planted doubt in the fragile mind of the loathsome Moor.  Soon green envy will strangle all rational thought and Othello (who was just so recently accused of witchcraft ), shall find himself securely under my spell.  For Othello’s  questioning shall consume him till his downfall, at which point I shall stand triumphantly over him.
