Shadowclub
So, this band has been around for a while. South African born and bred blues rock 'n roll is how I would describe it. The first time I saw them live, the frontman kinda scared me, I thought he looked like a wife beater and a little bit murderous. He was in fact, the first man I saw with an undercut, a trend which quickly grew. This isn't really about the way they look though, its about the way they sound. So anyway, the first time I saw them I didn't like them. But then I started listening to them online and they really grew on me so much so that the next time I went back to South Africa I made it my mission to see them live. Seriously, they were really good, and their sound has progressed and its less "balls to the wall straight up rock 'n roll" as their drummer puts it, but more progressive, and a bit more soulful. Which shows they've matured and their sound is refining, which is always a treat to see.
Oh, I forgot to mention they opened for Kings of Leon when they went to South Africa and played in front of 42 000 people. Woah. Which begs to ask the question: Why aren't they better known? They also recorded their first album in 9 days instead of 12. whatthehell.
Gritty, dirty, and slightly manic sounding with a touch of soul here and there. If you like bands that don't mess around, this is for you.
links, soon and go look em up on fb to hear more

FOALS ARE BACK BAYBAY
Their new album holy fire comes out of February 11th and I literally cannot wait! Like any band releasing new records their sound has changed a bit. I first heard My Number and I was like, "this seems kind of trivial for them" but it was really catchy. The actual guitar still sounds the same, but the riffs remind me of Michael Jackson, its really funky, the drummer is still as awesome as ever. The the other single Inhaler sounds more like their old albums and then by 1:54 I was like "woaah" it goes so heavy and the riff sounds very Rage Against The Machine(ratm) , I honestly never thought that I would ever mention them in the same sentence since they seemed like they were completely different schools of thought, then when I think of the beginning of the song I can actually see parallels to ratm, but the thing is that these influences- which i'm guessing is true are all melding kind of seamlessly with their own sound, which is sick, so look above and below listen

the kooks live
okay so i saw the kooks live
and they were RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING LIKE BEYOND.
it was everything i ever dreamed, except of course of my fantasy of singing with luke  which didnt happen- even though i was right in front and shouted out "can i sing with you?" and he ignored me stuff that. but he did look at me before thatt hahahah
anyway they were amazing, alexis nunez i think was a replacement drummer and he was really good as well. luke is such a showman, maybe too much, but he was great  and engaging. They were so good live though, like the energy of every song was just like 100 times bigger and better and also heavier- which was great.
all in all i was happy kid
and my love for the kooks grew even bigger hahaha;)

arctic monkeys is back baayyybaaayyy
they were always my favourite band
and then with humbug they lost me a bit and then suck it and see i was like okay, this is better
but this single r u mine? has me ALL. THE. WAY. I'm in love with them again and this song is just ridiculously good. that guitar is just so dirty, and that riff is just fugly . its disgusting. this whole song just makes me laugh with glee and dance around like i own the stage.
this song is dirty. dirty good. no flowery words today.

The Plastics
From Cape Town South Africa
this band just gets better and better with each new release
Their sound is definitely indie with a sort of oldschool disco and lazy vocals. they don't just smash and bang, but the arrangements of their songs are done with so much attention to detail, and so many layers, you just have fun uncoding and listening to each instrument by itself because they're all so interesting.
i saw them live a couple months ago and i had so much fun, even though they weren't the main act, i was there for them and they didnt disappoint, they were so fun and just got everyone dancing- me especially. when i spoke to the lead singer Pascal, he was really down to earth and a genuinely nice guy.
definitely recommend them, go on facebook and "like" them and get the free downloads!!
