OKAY IM BACK AND JUST WATCHED THE WICKED PART 1 MOVIE.
-it was so very gay! But there was still a lot of queer baiting, in the sense that our main 3 characters had overtly queer overtones and flirted with people of the same sex, but we never saw or was told of any overt physicality. There were a lot of queer extras though- like Bowen Yang as Pfanne! I liked the LGBTQ+ representation much better in the movie version than the stage version.
- they still casted a white Fiyero 😔. However I do like how the actor played Fieryo- like that man is a pansexual slut (not a slur but a lifestyle), and isn’t a complete asshole like he is in the beginning of the stage musical. But the blue dimonds??! Please have them in part 2!
- the music was fantastic!
-the visual beauty of this film- wow! That opening scene?!! I immediately need a Universal Studios version of the 4D Avatar Disney ride but as a flying monkey traveling through Oz.
-no Crope or Tibbit 😭
- no Quadding mention even though it’s in the fucking lyrics! Like that intro scene to Shiz where it’s under water- they could have had rubies in the sandbank!
- the Animal animation was okay, better than the Lion King. I liked they they didn’t try to make the animals bipedal. Kinda wished they would have had the Tiktoks murder Dillamond, but I understand the rating of the movie. It’s just a pivotal part of Elphaba’s radicalization though
- the marketing is literally just like Huger Games…like yall don’t know what this musical is about so you? lol
-I liked the Wizard- good casting choice! I would have loved to see a more tender moment between Elphaba and the Wizard tho, like some tears of gratefulness maybe? Really well home the betrayal
- I wanted more of Fiyero’s culture! AND OMG THEY CALLED HIM THE WINKIE PRINCE instead of the Vinkus. Like WINKIE is a slur! I would have loved to see Fiyero correct people on that terminology- show that he and his people are experiencing some oppression from greater Oz
- the bullet train- love it
-loved Elphaba and Nessa being mixed race (which makes sense), and Elphaba having micro braids! I loved how she looked! It also keeps the interracial relationship between Elphaba/Glinda/Fiyero alive.
-they mention the Time Clock Dragon but never explain it! :(
- Elphaba is very feminine…which okay. I wish she wasn’t but I also understand that they at least had a queer women play her.
Overall- great fucking movie, loved it way more than the stage musical. I’m going to go rewatch it in theaters with my mom.
My predictions for the wicked movie knowing Hollywood if they include elements of the book (which they should!!!):
-queer bait the shit out of Elphaba and Glinda
-they hired a white guy to play Fiyero so I’m betting they may attempt the whole subverting the race power dynamics thing instead of yknow sticking with the very clear allegories in the book. They also won’t let Fiyero wear his cultural clothing, instead sticking with a very boring suit or shirtpants
-make Elphaba very feminine…I swear the god if they don’t give her a too big man’s coat she wears in the book I will fight someone
- more of a tiktok thing that will happen: ‘Blue diamonds on a green field’ romance trend
-either they will focus too much on the Time Clock Dragon or not at all despite it’s importance to the plot
-if Crope and Tibbit are included, they either will not verbally queer but will either wear leather or have colored hankies (cuz the costume department knows what they are doing), or they will be the opposite of yassified
-they won’t show Tibbit (I think it’s him) in hospice dying of what is implied to be HIV/AIDS (which omg is such a large part of the plot and culture of which it was derived from! The whole ‘friends of Dorthy’ + queer women having to step up and care for queer men during HIV/AIDS crisis in the 80s and 90s and still to this day!!! There is so much subtext in that few pages!)
-the genocide of the Quaddlings for their land’s rubies won’t be mentioned or if it is they will ‘holocaust’-ify it and it will be very disrespectful
-they won’t make the Wizard like ale enough. The whole point in the musical is that he is so charming that even Elphaba is tempted. A fatherly actor, Tom Hanks??, should play the Wizard 🫢
-the Animal animation will either be extremely bad (like the Lion King remake), which is most likely, or they won’t use it at all. And tbh I want to see something like that is in Narnia.
-they will market it like they did the Hunger Games (I honestly don’t have much of a problem with this because I found that fascinating when that happened).
-it’s gonna be so straight. And that’s really sad because this book was written by a gay man, and has sooooooo many references to queer culture and most of the characters are canonically queer in some way. And honestly as depressing as the book is, I read it as a cathartic image of what LGBTQIA+ and POC go through. I think that is why I love it so much- I see myself and my pain and my community’s pain represented in a nuanced way.
-the only thing I can rely on happening is the violence against women 🙄 it’s in everything
I just really want a wicked series that is similar to Game of Thrones (with better writing) mixed with Pose and MASH, and be a political/action/horror thriller like Kingdom (K-drama). I know that’s complicated but it all plays out in my head lol.
I’m holding out this much 🤏🏻 hope.

Still one of my fav headcannons
Fiyeraba headcannon
Elphaba is a very ‘needs evidence’ type of person. It serves her well in her history and/or biology research. However it also means she struggles with trusting information that only comes from word-of-mouth, or from implication.
So when Fiyero tells her he loves her, she has pestering doubts even thought she wants to believe him. And over time this leads to a break down:
‘How do I know that you love me besides you saying so?! I want to trust you but I can’t see any physical signs? It’s not tangible so how can you prove that you love me? It doesn’t make any sense that you would.’
And ofc Fiyero would turn this back on her
‘With that logic how the fuck do I know that you love me?!’
‘Ofc i love you! I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t!’
‘Exactly! I’m here because I love you!’
And they reconcile, and leave the topic for a few days. But the whole ‘need for physical evidence’ stays in Fiyero’s mind, and he realizes that Elphaba needs reassurance that is not only verbal. And while physical activities help- he’s well known for being willing to do them with others he did not love as deeply as Elphaba, and she’s well aware of this, so that won’t fix the issue solely.
In the following weeks, Fiyero and Elphaba go to the doctor (for Fiyero since yknow he got tortured and beat to near death), and at some point Elphaba left the room, and came back in while Fiyero’s blood pressure was being taken, and it noticeably when down when she walked into the room.
Fiyero also realizes that his and Elphaba’s hearts beat in sync when they sleep/cuddle/relax together, etc. He also starts noting often how her physical presence calms him down, and helps him deal with his chronic pain better.
He keeps finding these instances of ‘physical evidence’ of his trust, and love, and vice versa of her’s in him, and finally one day he lays all of this ‘evidence’ out to her over dinner.
She didn’t complain about a lack of physical proof for a long time.

Oop there’s an typo lol. Fiyero wears shirts always because of his scars, even to bed. Elphaba will wear cut off shorts to bed, and sometimes a shirt.
How Elphaba dresses headcannon
-Elphaba isn’t a women but doesn’t have the language to communicate that since evangelical munchkinland very much has the gender binary
-she despises femininity because it was an unattainable goal that when she attempted to encompass, left her feeling very wrong and uncomfortable
-wearing Fiyero’s clothes made her feel confident and masculine, despite her long hair.
-she feels more comfortable in dark color since they mute the green. She also wears multiple layers (like pants under her skirts) for modesty and comfort. She doesn’t realize until later than it’s not necessarily modesty to hid the green, but her liking wearing modest pants rather than skirts. With the skirts making her feel wrong (aka dysphoric)
-sue to her subjected poverty (since Frex doesn’t spend more than the absolute minimum on her), she takes to wearing Frex’s and the house worker’s old clothes
-the cook is nice to her, and first tried to give Elphaba, her (the cook’s) old dresses until Elphaba shyly asks if she could have the cook’s sons’ old clothing. Elphaba uses the excuse that she wanted to mend them and then donate them to the church, but yet none of those hand me downs ever appear in the church’s donation closet.
-Elphaba is skinny due to poor diet, and it’s worse after being on the run. After she settles down with Fiyero, she gains some healthy weight, and they share clothes often.
-Elphaba’s daily clothes after leaving Shiz includes practical farm boots, thick dark denim pants, long sleeve shirts, and a coat (the men’s duster isn’t practical for living in the woods, but she favors it when in the city undercover). She likes to wear her hat when making a point, otherwise her hair and face are covered by bandanas or a scarf. Tall pointy hats are pretty noticeable for someone in hiding.
-post her and Fiyero leaving Oz for safety, she regularly wears boots, pants, and a button down shirt. She wears her Vinkus silk scarfs as belts. Fiyero buys her a black hat with a wide brim with fringe that she wears when encompassing the ‘witch’ persona to scare outsiders (to protect her community of refugee animals on the edge of the Vinkus desert).
-when working undercover in the city, she often pretended to be a client of sex workers (during their ‘session’ she would provide them food and supplies while they gave information). (The city’s sex workers were mainly displaced people from Oz and many were part of the Resistance)
-Elphaba keeps her long hair as a monument to her mother, and Fiyero braids it often in the style of men from the Arjikis (braided back into a French braid with many tiny braids that represent accomplishments. Charms and some grasses are braided into the hair with symbolism. Arjiki women often braided her hair up, while men wore long braids down their back. Fiyero cut his as a method of assimilation when he moved East, and after some -omg-I’m-a-leader-and-I-am-stressed-and-I-want-to-rebel issues. He keeps it short while working undercover in the government. He grows it back out after leaving with Elphaba.
-Elphaba wears light pants that were cut off at the knee. Fiyero wears the same because Elphaba feels guilt whenever she sees his back scares from the Gale Force torture.
-fiyero likes dressing Elphaba nearly as much as he liked undressing her. There is something very intimate about it that he craves.
-Elphaba doesn’t bind, but she does wear a tank top folded up over her chest that resembles a sports bra under her shirt.
-breasts aren’t sexualized in Fiyero’s culture, so it’s common to see Elphaba walking around their home at night without a top on. She sleeps without a top on as well (unless it’s too cold to do so). She may do this, while using one her of silk scarfs as a shawl.
-jewelry- she has a necklace that Fiyero made for her back when they were at Shiz. It’s made of leather and has a small geode on it. She also wears a small strip of leather around her left wrist that serves as her equivalent of a wedding ring. Fiyero had a matching one. The original strip of leather had been cut longways into two pieces for Elphaba and Fiyero to wear separately.

This is still one of my favorite headcannons I came up with
This is one of those ideas that will definitely make it to the writing stage at some point
Fiyero gets migraines like a lot. And previously to and at Shiz, he had a major reputation as a partied and then crashing hard. And yes while he did party and drink from time to time, his infamous ‘hangovers’ were actually bad migraines in which he couldn’t get out of bed.
And he wears the sunglasses because light sensitivity related to the migraines along with hiding his blood shoot eyes- because he used 🍃recreationally and for pain management.
Post the events of No Good Deed, and after Elphaba turns him back to human and they leave Oz/hide in the Vinkus, they get worse due to both the physical and mental trauma. And Elphaba is one of those ppl whose never even had a headache before (in this very specific headcannon, the canon implies head trauma, like a lot of it), so she tries to be understanding but truly cannot grasp what he’s feeling. And her confidence issues are such that she refuses to try to do anything neurological with magic- and this drives a large wedge between them. Why wouldn’t Elphaba help him feel better? Can’t Fiyero understand how dangerous and maybe not even possible what he is asking if for is?
They express their frustration separately to a magical neighbor, and she sided with Elphaba that neuro magic is far too dangerous to use due to the lack of knowledge on it, but she does provide alot of coping tools and skills to help alleviate pain - she instructs Elphaba on how to add magnesium to their diet, how to make ginger ‘candies’ and how ginger, citrus, and peppermint fight inflammation. She also teaches her about magically made ice and heat backs, charmed red tinted sunglasses that change their tint as needed.
Elphaba then consults various biological and medical books and studied muscle tension, the nervous system, and acupressure. She also studied nutrition triggers, learns how to track the weather for migraine triggers, and makes a note to keep Fiyero extra hydrated.
And Elphaba being the ever practical person she is writes this all down, and gives it to Fiyero as a gift, explaining that she’s upset that he’s in pain and she can’t do much to completely get rid of it. But, she said, here is a book worth of information that *IS* going to help you feel better.
I just the love the idea of them trying to help each other even if not in ‘traditional’ ways, or how the other would expect. I’m my eyes, there’s nothing more that says ‘I love and care about you’ than a partner taking the integrity to do the mental load of the health for the other when they are in need of it, and doing so without being asked.

Elphaba called Fiyero a scarecrow long before his unfortunate transformation.
It started at Shiz. She experienced him attempting to joke about ‘asserting his dominance’ while doing the ‘T’-pose. And this was being done in response to a bunch of birds (not Birds) following Fiyero since he feeds them in the morning before campus is busy.
(‘Listen Boq! I am simply asserting my dominance *t poses* by controlling the bird population! See how they flock to me!’)
And she responded asking if he was attempting to be ‘asserting his dominance’ over her or a few crows.
(‘Tiggular, please -for the love of the Unnamed God- why are you doing your scarecrow impression? It’s really bad if so because you aren’t even scaring off those crows. Maybe you should show them your last term paper - now that was scary!’)*
*listen Elphaba is a bit of a bitch at times in booksical cannon
After cackling at her own joke, she started jokingly calling him a scarecrow who was really bad at his job.
And that legacy followed him post Shiz.

OKAY so I'm finally doing a Kingdom rewatch and I NEED to talk about how Mu-Yeong's dynamics with the prince shift within the first four episodes because holy SHIT am I having some feelings about it
So it's very obvious right from the start that Mu-Yeong and Chang have a close relationship. Mu-Yeong obviously cares for Chang and he's the only person Chang trusts to any real degree (or at all). But there's the sense that, though Chang is an adult, Mu-Yeong views him very much the way one would view a child. And, for all intents and purposes, that view isn't exactly inaccurate. Chang is obviously very well-educated and has clearly been living with the reality that his life is in constant danger for a very long time. But his life within the palace has still made him very sheltered in a lot of ways and Mu-Yeong knows this. He knows the prince is good and kind and has led a difficult life, but he also knows what the reality outside the palace is like. He knows it's a reality Chang neither understands nor has ever experienced.
Because of this, both within and outside the palace, Mu-Yeong is protective of Chang in the way a caregiver is protective of a particularly precocious child because, in Mu-Yeong's eyes, that's exactly what Chang is. An educated, caring, and well-meaning child, but a child all the same.
And then Dongnae happens.
After what is probably the most genuinely traumatizing night of Chang's life so far, it just gets worse from here, so so much worse they end up in the courtyard of the Dongnae Magistrate, face to face with the nobles who fucked everything up in the first place and led to countless needless deaths. When faced with a situation where those who are supposed to be in charge are unable to do what they have sworn to do out of sheer incompetence, Chang is forced to step into the role of leader, which he does wholeheartedly and without hesitation. He is willing to act quickly and make necessary but unpopular decisions to save the people, and doesn't hesitate to put the safety and well-being of the common people above the feelings of the nobles.
As he does so, Mu-Yeong looks at him like this:
Tumblr media
I think this is the first time Mu-Yeong realized that Chang's words weren't just words. He meant them, and was willing to act on them. This is Chang's face during this scene:
Tumblr media
He's frightened. He's suddenly faced with a situation he really doesn't know how to deal with, but he does know that it's his responsibility to deal with it nonetheless. So he does. And I think Mu-Yeong is the only one to really see that because, unlike everyone else, he knows Chang not just as the Crown Prince but as a person.
Then we get the scene two episodes later when everyone is at the clinic and the children's ball hits Chang. You can see the hesitation and uncertainty in Mu-Yeong's reaction when Chang tells him to bring the children over. He knows Chang is ultimately a good man and has now seen him take charge and put his life at risk to save others, but he also knows that Chang clearly has a bit of a temper and doesn't take well to being disrespected. He's worried- worried that Chang will react in the way he has always been taught it proper to react, worried that he is ultimately still the child Mu-Yeong viewed him as when they left Hangyong.
Look at his expression, though, as Chang instead gives the children food, tells them to go back to playing, and then tells Mu-Yeong to give the rest of the food to the villagers:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think the courtyard at the Dongnae Magistrate and this moment are really when Mu-Yeong's view of Chang shifted from a well-meaning but ultimately naive child to a leader who genuinely cares for his people. Mu-Yeong clearly always deeply cared for Chang, but I think it was in these moments he learned to truly respect him as well which makes everything that happens later just that much more heartbreaking

Wicked headcannon
Elphaba isn’t allergic to water- she’s scared of it.
When she was a young child, Nanny tried to drown her. And Elphaba’s mother was never sober due to taking a variety of herbs and alcohol (which young Elphaba would interpret to be water because it’s clear). So it creates this deep rooted trauma in her mind that manifests as a deep fear of water.
This phobia is to the point that she sometimes panics and feels pain when water touches her even though it’s not causing actual damage (neuroplasticity but in reverse!).
And we also see this manifest in her behavior- she doesn’t wash her hair often so it’s usually tied up due to be oily. He clothes are ragged because they aren’t rinsed in water enough to avoid getting stiff from soap, and she tries to harshly rub the stiffness out with a wash board causing the fabric to ware.
Before Shiz, her nails always have white flour or dirt under them from avoiding excess time washing her hands. So she starts wearing gloves whenever she does the chores to stop needing to wash her hands. (Nessa thinks it’s to hide the green, Frex just is thankful it’s actually hiding the green)
Fiyero comes barging into Elphaba’s life, and comes from a diverse region where water is sometimes rare. And he’s sympathetic to her avoidance of water. He quickly learns she won’t talk about it, and takes his suggestions as criticism of her hygiene. (She uses coconut oil to wash her self, baking soda to clean her hair and teeth, and milk to bath in when necessary thank you very much)
Realizing she likes books and learning, he starts slowly suggesting some anthropological books about the dry regions of the Vinkus, knowing she would eventually read about the recorded water alternatives. He also starts practicing some of the techniques he grew up with- like using oil to clean his hands and tools, using powders to clean up spills, using dry exfoliation, etc, so that she will learn by observation. And also she will figure out that he knows stuff that might be helpful for her.
Time skip- Fiyero and Elphaba are together and he’s learning more and more about her everyday. In a vulnerable moment, she shares her fear of water and how she was drowned as a child, and everything clicks into place for him.
So he slowly introduces her to water in a positive way- using it to cool his canteen from the inside and then setting it against her face when it’s got outside. Or using it to water color berry paint pictures on rocks for her (because of course he does and it’s cute af), and eventually using it to comb out and detangle her hair for her without the water touching her scalp but it feeling very good.
And little by little coaxing her to jump into puddles with him, to enjoy the sound of rain while they are sheltered, to look forward to the rainbows.
Eventually he gets her to walk through a stream (previously he would carry over over because that’s hot af ngl), and then again but barefoot, and then they are wading into shallow water, but never putting their heads under. Fiyero takes the opportunity to make these good experiences (*wink wink*), and also starts to help her wash her hair without submerging her head. He even braids her hair while it’s wet so it dries in controlled waves that she adores.
He also makes sure their drinking water doesn’t look like the clear alcohol her mother drank- mixing berries and roots into it to change its taste and color.
And in return, she is in charge of the fires and kindling while they camp since he’s afraid of it.

Sirius Black is heavily coded as queer, especially in his relationship with Remus, which HP fandom has been discussing for two decades. But Sirius is also heavily coded as neurodivergent, specifically with bipolar disorder, and that’s just as essential to his character (and the awful treatment he gets from JKR) as his queerness

-I picture Fiyero looking like Adam Beach or a young Graham Greene, but with curly hair. And at some points his hair is short because he had/forced to assimilate when we started attending schools outside of the Vinkus, and when he was in the Wizard’s Guard.
-the diamonds described being on Fiyero are more similar to kapemni (Lakota hourglass-looking symbol). The symbol had todo with the stars and sky, and beliefs around them. Not to say that the Arjiki =Lakota; the symbols just were very similar in my head. In the book, we get an omniscient third character reader with some of Elphaba’s inner thoughts and interpretations- it makes since she would describe the tattoos as ‘diamonds’. This isn’t meant to be appropriative, I just think that is what maguire may have been picturing. If this is disrespectful please tell me!
-the old big ice age animals exist in the non-human populated areas of Oz. Idk why I think this, but I do lol. And they are just animals, not Animals. Various groups in the west will group hunt them for food and supplies. I have this vision of mammoths in the Vinkus and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head.
-Elphaba doesn’t eat meat (or any food with animal byproduct that would require their deaths or injury) unless 1) she’s starving and it’s her only choice, or 2) someone she trusts hunted and prepared the food (aka Fiyero most likely). She doesn’t want to accidentally eat the remains of an Animal.
-traditional Ozian hunters are trained to recognize the differences between animals and Animals as to avoid accidentally murdering Animals; this became more difficult as Animals were forced to hide in plain sight posing as life stock to avoid being killed or imprisoned by the Wizard-supported forces
-Elphaba has curly hair. Fight me lol. She really didn’t know how to care for it so she always tied it back in a braid or bun. But once she left Oz, she figured out techniques with Fiyero’s help and other refugees’ help
-Elphaba and Fiyero changed their names to Fae and Yero and followed refugee paths out of Oz and into one of the neighboring countries. They received help and thanks from various refugees (human and Animal) who recognized them (but only after Elphaba explained Fiyero was never on the Wizard’s side)
-Fiyero turned back to being a human after years of research. However the ordeal left him disabled, and he had a limp and chronic pain. He jokes that his end goal was to gain her attention while she nurses him back to health.
-Elphaba can sing- this is cannon. She learned to sing due to being forced todo so for her father’s ministry. Once they left the Quaddlings region, and were back in Munchkinland and in a church, she also learned to play the organ.
-Fiyero like to draw (cannon in book). He draws a lot of Elphaba.
-Elphaba has never gotten her hair cut, and her hair became a security blanket of sorts for her. She didn’t cut it until she left Oz.
-Elphaba could do a basic braid and hair bun. Fiyero taught her how to do more complex braiding, and how to braid things into her hair (like flowers)
-Elphaba’s preferred weapon is a good ol’knife and intimidation. Fiyero prefers long distance weapons. He says it’s a self preservation tactic. Elphaba jokes that he’s just scared of her knife skills
-while they were at school, Elphaba and Fiyero were best friends. She tutored him and he encouraged her to come out of her shell. It was very common for them to team up during the Charmed Circle’s hang outs, even when Fiyero and Glinda were dating. And they would tag team play Poker and/or Euchre and wipe the table with everyone
-Fiyero is taller than Elphaba by 2 inches. By she absolutely will push him down into a chair and stand over him to assert her dominance.
-Elphaba isn’t a women but she doesn’t have the language to identify herself as anything else. (Maybe this changes once their leave Oz and she gains the language to describe herself; maybe Fiyero’s mother tongue has words for it)
-most ppl thing Elphaba’s the cat person in the relationship, but actually Fiyero is. He found this stray kitten and brought it home (post leaving Oz). It’s the only animal to prefer Fiyero over Elphaba.
-their relationship communication is 80% sarcasm and sass; they have had to work on their communication skills due to this fact. Before identifying the problem, they got in way too many fights/disagreements due to miscommunication and/or accidentally offending each other.

Wicked Booksical HC:
Elphaba was never taught how to ride a bike because Nessa couldn’t. And why would Elphaba be given the opportunity todo something that Nessa wouldn’t be able to do?
So she never learned how to ride a bike. Later on, this is discovered by Glinda and Fiyero, and they make it their mission to teach her. Elphaba was resistant, partly out embarrassment, but also because she couldn’t justify doing something for fun that Nessa couldn’t do (trauma response). But Glinda’s and Fiyero’s puppy-dog eyes convince her to try under the agreement that Boq distract Nessa; Elphaba didn’t want her sister to feel bad about not being able to use a bike. Cue a very wobbly Elphaba attempting to ride a bike at Shiz with Fiyero and Glinda helping/cheering her on.
And ofc Fiyero’s bike was too talk for her, so she had to use Glinda’s pink cruiser with a basket and flowers on the front.

Thinking about my headcannon that Elphaba doesn’t know how to properly tie shoes (and/or stays if she wears them)
No one taught her growing up so she just tied the laces in a knot and slipped her shoes/boots on and off. Nessa wore slip on type shoes all the time (often heels) since they were easier to take on and off while in her chair.
So when Elphaba is on the run and Fiyero joins her, and one day he is helping her take her boots off after she sprains her ankle (and thus can’t slide the shoes off) and can’t get the knot undone. The following convo leads to Elphaba getting pissed off and cranky and explaining how no one taught her so that is how she’s been tying her shoes her whole life.
This is one of the events that lets Fiyero truly understand how different their upbringings were, and it humbles him. He also knows better than to offer to teach her in the moment, so instead he used a quill to undo the knot. Later he’ll show her how to tie laces by simply doing it slowly in front of her without saying anything, knowing she’ll watch and remember the steps so she can practice on her own later.
