This is something I’ve been saying a lot, but I think this is such a problem because the object show community is like “babies first fandom” now and it’s like these kids first time being exposed to a bunch of headcanons. And when it’s media that’s got actual queer stuff in it as well that makes it worse because then people get into way more discourse over sexuality headcanons that really shouldn’t matter that much. Like I’ve seen a lot of people argue about OJ and Paper being gay and then some people will be like “oh well I think OJ’s transfem” or something and then I’ll see them get like actual death threats for it because “it’s not yaoi anymore😡” and “that’s not canon” and then people get super mad about stuff not being canon I guess? I don’t really know how to describe it. It’s super annoying though, but I think this might be like the next Eddsworld. Not in the sense of they can’t separate the characters from the people, but in the sense of like shipping is really getting in the way of everything and if you don’t line up with headcanons, then you’re like ostracised from the community for no reason and it genuinely really sucks especially because this is older media from 2010 2011 and some of the people that are in this fandom weren’t even born yet so that probably doesn’t help. I don’t know why fandom space is so obsessed with stuff being canon nowadays, especially on TikTok. It genuinely sucks. 

i think a problem that’s visible in the ii community and the osc in general is the very forceful use of headcanons. it’s perfectly fine to see characters a certain way but we shouldn’t get upset with others just because your ideas about the story don’t line up with mine .

i’m not talking about characters that are specifically coded for a certain role, but more vague things that aren’t talked about in canon. like for example, the idea of yin and yang being siblings makes sense, but if someone sees them more as a system, that’s fine and you shouldn’t attack someone for it? it sounds really obvious but it’s a problem i see repeatedly happening unfortunately and it’s really sad to see people get clowned on only because they see certain characters fitting a different role better than the majority of the osc
