With the new moon and solar eclipse, I couldn’t think of a more suspicious time to open my latest creative chapter. Announcing my completed #OracleDeck: . 𝐋 𝐄 𝐌 𝐍 𝐈 𝐒 𝐂 𝐔 𝐒 : 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘪𝘣𝘣𝘰𝘯 𝘖𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘭𝘦 . Featuring all of my artwork from my 2015-2017 ribbon, this shadow deck takes the uncomfortable emotions I’ve confronted through my creative process and transforms them into the lessons I’ve learned. In writing the art diary (soon to be announced), I realized just how difficult it was for me to go back into my old ways of thinking and feel into the things I realized I no longer felt. . With 33 cards, this shadow deck flips the experience, honoring my mental health journey and making monuments of my old hurts. The cards are direct and potent, asking the reader to examine those things we may not want hear. It asks the shrill crow to speak up. What is it that you are meant to work through? ———————————————— Stay tuned for card reveals and pre-order info as well as information regarding downloadable work books offering the symbolism and message of each card.✨ ———————————————— The #LemniscusTarot is also still in the works, each card painted one by one. I work very slow, but it’s my belief that good things are worth waiting for.♥️💙 ———————————————— #indiedeck #tarotartist #tarotdeck #oraclecards #shadowdeck #shadowart #shadowwork #ribbonart #redribbons #redandblue #tarotcards #tarotreadersofig #tarotillustration #tarotcardreadings #tarotspreads #oraclecardreading #oraclecardreader #witchyaesthetic #witchystyle #mentalhealthblogger #arttherapylife #arttherapyheals #newmoonintentions #solareclipse2020 #settingintentions https://www.instagram.com/p/CIy2VeXJ3xn/?igshid=61vnhy1u6npr

“The Star (XVII)” for the #LemniscusTarot by S.R. Kraft @sketchykraft ——————————— It’s been a while. . Truthfully, I don’t know where to begin. Both I and the direction and purpose of my work have been undergoing a vast transformation. It’s been difficult to write or create when I’ve had so many of my comforts and distractions stripped away in this post-Covid world. (I’m sure many of you can relate.) . The alchemical process speaks of transformation as four suns (phases), likened to the 4 elemental suits of the minor arcana: -Nigredo or melanosis—The destruction or breakdown of matter. -Albedo or leucosis—the purification of matter. -Citrinitas or xanthosis—the fermentation or infusion of matter with new life. -Rubedo or iosis—the crystallization of the great work; new matter. . Jung referred to these stages as Confession, Illumination, Education, and Transformation—And if THAT is not an apt description of personal change and the mental/spiritual journey, then I don’t know what is. . When I embarked on this journey, breaking down my past traumas, separating the unhealthy from the healthy behaviors, I never imagined my self-education would lead me here. Despite my recent Hashimoto’s diagnosis and multiple sclerosis, I feel grateful. Surprisingly... hopeful. . I mean, for real, autoimmune disease fucking sucks. Like Ram Dass post-stroke I’m learning to lean into the “grace” of dependence with such loving gratitude. The isolation of chronic fatigue has further removed illusory distractions and false bonds, leaving behind the space to infuse my life with healthy food, water, yoga, meditation, education, and true friendship as I work to restore my strength. And in the dark uncertainty of this world, those fought for moments of love and peace have become all the more precious. . Hope can be conditional, hanging our happiness on achievement. But the hope contained in #TheStar speaks to restorative gratitude, willful survival, and the choice to seek the good in the bad. Like a bright light glimmering in the blackest night, the star reminds us that there is still light if we look for it. We will make it through. Just have to keep moving forward. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦’𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨-𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩. —————————————————— Reviewing the functions of my my #LemniscusTarot: . 1. As a tool to access trauma through narrative and archetypal storytelling, rather than through triggers and direct memory. 2. As an arsenal of wellness practices suggested for each card. 3. As a “check in” window into the underlying need of our emotions. . The 4th function is as a reminder of the license to grow. . A growth mindset is defined as the knowledge that we can always be and do better, even with the personal toxicity we have to address. It’s not making excuses for bad behavior caused by trauma, but hugging the hell out of the inner child and moving through that trauma and past those behaviors. It’s knowing you have a right to improve yourself even if you feel bad for your actions and your behaviors. . I’m gonna be real with y’all... my divorce wasn’t pretty, especially from the angle focused on me. Regardless of relational trauma, the narcissistic abuse and gaslighting I had to navigate, mental disorder, lack of emotional regulation... the fact of the matter is I made decisions I know I regret. And I’ve spent literal years caught in a schism between backing up my remorse with changed behavior and the shame I feel for past behavior. Especially when the reality is that I am never, ever going to prove to the people who didn’t value me then that I am worthy now. . At a certain point there is a “sacred release” (to borrow a term from my dear @sacred.mirrors). There is a moment when we finally need to step out of our own way, stop punishing ourselves, and allow ourselves to bloom. There comes a time when we need to open our arms and let the love that already exists around and supporting us in, to nourish our growth like sun and water. . My dark Empress Persephone as both Flower Princess and Infernal Queen reminds me—along with these shadow figures in my deck—to think abundantly and revel in my gratitude for the flowers that have bloomed from these unseen seeds in the cold ground. . WHAT ARE YOU GRATEFUL FOR RECEIVING? — https://www.instagram.com/p/CAzGVsfJOFR/?igshid=qtnd0asl7eu

So far, we’ve discussed my intention for the Lemniscus Tarot to be used as a narrative tool to circumvent triggers associated with trauma. After that we went over the all important “call to actions” wellness practices pulled from each card. Next, I’d like to talk about *feelings.* . In a world governed by positivity culture, spiritual bypassing, gaslighting, and oppression, there are going to be moments when we are all told we do not have a right to our feelings or that our reality is not our own. When that happens, I think it’s all the more important to check in and ask ourselves not what we are feeling, but what core need has to be communicated? What boundary needs to be reinforced? What situation has to be abandoned? And sometimes, when unable to find safety, how do we survive? . The High Priestess represents a figure of enduring faith—not of religion, but of self. As an archetype, she asks us to FEEL into our body and mind, navigating our situation to the best of our abilities, facing the trials ahead with resolute commitment to our personal truth. . I believe we can utilize the archetypes found in tarot to check into these feelings and feel down into our needs and resiliency. Just as Hekate—described as either a triple goddess or a throng of torch-bearing witches—represented the navigation of the dark Underworld and shadow by way of faith in inner-light and the power to emerge from trauma, we can journey with each figure through their story while feeling into our triggers and emotions and the lessons they bring us. . When it comes down to it, the only person that knows the full truth of our experience is the self. So... . WHAT ARE YOUR EMOTIONS AND INTUITION TRYING TO TELL YOU? — #tarotartist #fantasyillustration #mythicblog #mentalhealthblogger #bipolarartist https://www.instagram.com/p/CAvmkA0J3Kj/?igshid=1r5q1j5o29tlb

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘭 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴... ———————————————— For me, Tarot has become not a tool of divination, but a powerful tool of complex self-reflection. . In these spreads, filled with complex vignettes and archetypal characters, we are able to see past our traumas and shadows and, much like reading the panels of a relatable comic book, pull from the gutters the invisible stories of our own lives and narratives. Like assessing a somehow multi-layered Rorschach inkblot, the cards become a mirror, reflecting the psyche in mythical code. . Because the #LemniscusTarot was created with the intention of being used as a tool for bypassing our triggers and diving feet-first into our traumas, it’s important to me for it to mirror that intention in the use of its Underworld and shadow symbols in conjunction with the traditional archetypes and meanings of the Rider-Waite-Smith. . My Fool stands here on the precipice, stepping from the mortal coil of her former reality and toward an epic descent in search of a new truth. . Perhaps, like Dante, we only find ourselves at the mouth of Hell as an escape from the jaws of our Earthly tormentors, and only then embark on our journey down and toward the light. Perhaps, like Odin, we draw upon the spirit of Wyrd in knowledge of what is not known and, donning our traveler’s cloak and hat, we become gray wanders in search of the wisdom of runes and words not yet known to us in our understanding of this nebulous web of the universe. Perhaps, like Uranus, we seek to stretch the limits of our ever-expanding horizons, broadening the span of our skies. . The allegories are endless, all culminating in the numerous cycles of death and rebirth represented in both the Major and Minor Arcana, overlapping and converging like the weaving of a great lemniscate, an ouroboros of infinite transformation beginning and ending here with The Fool’s sacred question: . WHAT IS IT THAT YOU NEED? ———————————————— #thefool #tarotartist #mythicblog #mentalhealthblogger https://www.instagram.com/p/CAloZMupNLD/?igshid=vj29o9xotdaq

It’s a great time to take a bath a wash away the cobwebs. Gemini loves nothing more than replaying their stories on endless repeat, so take the time to pause, really listen to your memories, and allow them to wash over your, fading into the dawn like the stars passing over the horizon. . And while I’m here, I’d like to remind you to go check out the Kickstarter for the STORIES: #8thHouseOracle Deck by @shopthe8thhouse. #RoseCityComicCon is postponed! —————————————————— No matter the states’ individual stances, large public gatherings are still ill-advised. For safety and the public good, #RCCC is officially postponed until fall of 2021. . And you know, for artists like myself that make a great deal of their annual income working shows, this all boils down to more than just lost sales. With multiple high dollar table/booth fees tied up and left in the air until sales can be made, the compounding investments are adding up. It’s been rough, y’all. Still, I’m counting my blessings in these difficult and uncertain times. . More than ever I find myself reaching for stories and myths about hope. I remind myself of the dark places I’ve been and the things I’ve survived. If there’s anything I have faith in, it is my own resilience. And when that falls into doubt, I have my stories to light my way. ⭐️✨ —————————————————— If you’d like to support me, keep an eye out for my Patreon and #mythicblog (coming soon), where I’ll go into all kinds of rare and esoteric stories from mythology as it informs my art. . And if you feel so inclined, please visit my online shop @ [ SKETCHYKRAFT.ETSY.COM ] or by visiting the link in my bio. 🙏💐 —————————————————— #rccc2020 #postponed #fantasyillustrator #tarotartist #bipolarartist #mentalhealthblogger (at Rose City Comic Con) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAQNN5npSC-/?igshid=g1tzv3rabofy

Hades as #TheEmperor for the #LemniscusTarot. . This has not been an easy energy to conjure in the creation of this card. While too often I see this card avoided or resented as representing external authority manifesting in adversarial forces, I believe The Emperor instead to be a tool for tapping into one’s own authority over the self. . I try to remember this as I strive to navigate my sudden dive into deep depression and inflammation, both my autoimmune and mood phases now synching and converging. My limitations are mine to dictate. My energy is mine to manage. The only person that gets to determine if I’m doing enough is me. So why not be kind and remember, it’s OK to go slow. ———————————————— #mythicblog #greekmythology #hades #hadesandpersephone #emperor #skullartwork #darkfairytale #darkartwork #fairytaleart #mythologyart #ribbonart #redribbons #redandblue #witchyart #witchystyle #daffodil #tarotartist #cartomancy #cartomancersofinstagram #emperorenergy #ariesenergy #chronicfatigue #chronicpainsucks #livingwithms #autoimmunelife #bipolarartist #bipolarart https://www.instagram.com/p/CAKRmxIJ-xz/?igshid=1iin2j7sv5w2t

“Tiny Devil” by #SarahReneKraft @sketchykraft⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2018 • 2”x3” • Mixed-Media.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ——————————————————⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Whether spiritual or psychological, shadow work is often used to explain the process of delving within the feared or undesired aspects of the self in order to seek out our root traumas and, like following a thread through a labyrinth, identify our core needs.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While I have to admit, I’m not a fan of Jung (for various reasons), the metaphors for shadow work definitely resonate.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Lately, I’ve found myself confronting many aspects of myself that I have been aware of and yet simultaneously blinded to. I think sometimes we can be aware of our traumas and behaviors and yet unaware of how those traumas and behaviors manifest as unconscious beliefs.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While we can identify the hurt and confront our accountability, it seems to me it’s even harder to face what our experiences, triggers, and behaviors cause us to believe of our external selves.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Are others really projecting a mask upon us? Or are we projecting that others are projecting this perception upon us? Perhaps we are the ones projecting a mask upon ourselves.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Even when we finally see the best in ourselves, why do we still believe we deserve the worst?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ——————————————————⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #personalart #emotionalart #bipolarartist #depressionart #anxietyart #mentalhealthblogger https://www.instagram.com/p/CADiLVpnAxV/?igshid=rq6o9i69hvri

The Helm of Darkness—a.k.a. The Helm of Hades, The Cap of Hades, and The Cap of Invisibility. . As the possible root of Hades’ name would suggest, —combining the negating “a” with the Greek “Idien” (meaning “to see”)—both “Aides” and the helmet translated to moving unseen. The helmet itself, forged by the Uranian cyclops, was gifted to Hades and became instrumental to his role in winning the Titanomachy (The Giant’s War). Worn later by Hermes, Athena, and Perseid, the helmet had since become not only a symbol of invisibility, but a sign of underhanded dealings both secret in nature in dubious in morality. . For my unpublished story “Blind Follies: The Flower and Death,” I reimagined the helmet as a ram skull. While it was feared to invoke the Underworld God through the building of temples or speaking his name, many funerary rites included the carrying of cypress branches and the sacrifice of black rams to Hades’ estate. . While the helmet may have been abused by its various wearers, it had always seemed to me to be a symbol of Hades’ invisible duties and unseen authority over all life. As #TheEmperor in my #TarotDeck, he exudes the decisive nature of #Aries while presiding over boundaries, protecting order, and watching for the inevitable approach of whatever’s to come. . I’ve struggled with this card for over a year now, but as he sits on my desk watching me as I clean, sort through loose ends, ship old orders, and restore my processes, I feel guided by an unseen hand showing me how this invisible work is done. —————————————————— #mythologyblog #greekmythology #mythic #mythologyart #tarotdeckcreator #mentalhealthblogger https://www.instagram.com/p/B_0WZpkppk2/?igshid=tfhjnpj4m5b7

“Irises” (1889) #VincentVanGogh Oil on canvas, 71x93 cm (Photo: @gettymuseum 1990) ——————————————— #Storytime— . Many years ago, before the #gettymuseum expanded into the monumental #gettycenter, a group of school children were invited to the original #jpaulgettymuseum to commentate on the newly acquired “Irises,” shown in the postcard above. Nominated by my teachers, I was lucky enough to be one of those children representing my school district from Riverside county. . Once at the museum—a jaw-dropping replica of a Pompeian villa, down to the mosaic tile—I was completely and utterly enchanted by Greek gardens, reflecting pools, sky lights, ponds, and so much beautiful artwork. Unsurprisingly, I found myself particularly drawn to the Greco-Roman sculptures and neoclassical paintings. . As a lifetime avid fan of the work and letters of Vincent Van Gogh (my ginger cats are named Vincent and Theo after all), I felt such a thrill not only being so close to the work, but participating in a group discussion that became part of the museum’s film about the painting. I remember noting how the solitary white iris to me mirrored Van Gogh’s self-documented feelings of loneliness among his peers. Like the irises, his letters contained hope and passion for growth blended with a philosophical search for self-understanding and masked by a seemingly obsessive productive mindset. Even at my younger age, the emotionality of his work stayed with me. And it still makes me smile knowing that somewhere in the Getty Archives there exists a clip of wee, little Sarah posing her theories on depression and self-isolation. . Though the villa closed after the opening of the Getty Center (which I’ve had the pleasure of visiting many times), it filled me with such joy seeing the villa re-opened as The Getty Greco-Roman Museum. After rediscovering my love of Greek mythology, I returned there as an adult and took many notes. I still yearn to go back. . Here’s hoping that once both quarantine pandemic are behind us, I can do just that. In the meantime, this token makes me smile. ——————————————— #fantasyillustrator #mentalhealthblogger #greekmythology #vangogh #personalstory https://www.instagram.com/p/B_fzJlAJyOt/?igshid=1md894arnwj25

✂️#AnimeRoseville is postponed! —————————————————— Another con bites the dust (at least for now). . Even as I currently sit packaging and prepping orders to ship, it’s tough to describe how I can see these events affecting all of us in the arts and “non-essential” work. We’re all hurtin’ big time. . It’s been a lot of waves of emotions. I found myself bursting into tears and waves of panic thinking of all the ways people are affected. My therapist (whom I am beyond lucky to have) recommended a grounding visualization that is helping me tremendously to stay in the present and focus on what I need to do in the moment: . If you are unable to imagine a protective shield that allows the pains of the world to pass thru—acknowledged and released—instead pick an object. Observe the fears and imagine them being absorbed into the small object, so that they are held but no longer inside of you. . I’d also recommend scheduling time to grieve and indulge your fear and panic. If you can’t focus and find yourself paralyzed by the news, set a time. Say 7:00pm or noon or 9:00am or any length of time that is convenient. When the anxiety bubbles up to a choking point, say to yourself it is not time. You’ve scheduled worrying at 6:00pm. Then at 6:00pm, go ahead and feel your feelings. Just be sure to schedule an ending time so you can keep on keeping on. . I am not a therapist or a professional. These techniques do not replace mental health or medical care. These are just some of the strategies that are working for me to keep me upright and hopeful. . I’m going to be writing a lot about hope, change, stasis, and uncertainty in the coming weeks. We cannot stop the night from falling, but we must know the day is still coming. Light is an inevitable force. Sure as the night is the day.🖤 —————————————————— In the meantime, if you would like to support me and my work in the face of all of this hardship, please visit my shop: SKETCHYKRAFT.ETSY.COM, or click the link in my bio.✂️ —————————————————— #sacanime #postponed #fantasyillustrator #tarotartist #bipolarartist #mentalhealthblogger (at Roseville, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-LKVSeJlo0/?igshid=im5fztcwef5z
