Misty seemed pleased about the stranger reaching their hand out to her. She hurried over, head-butted their palm, and then rubbed her cheek against their fingers.
Russell briefly paused when he saw just who it was. He honestly thought this person had been a dream. With their talk of Gaia and how the bloodshed displeased them, he had wondered whether his own subconscious has been nagging him.
“Oh, ehehe, yes, I remember you too,” he said when he realised he hadn’t spoken yet, “It’s been a while. I hope you’ve been doing okay.”
He looked down to Misty as well. She was watching them the whole time, purring.
“Yeah, she’s my cat. She likes to come here and I take her with me when I come to read sometimes,” he said. He felt some anxiety, wondering if they were the type of person who judged whether people were good enough to havea pet, “I uh, took her in, because she used to be a stray, and we’ve kind of, like, always been together since, ehehe….”
Vale scratched the cat behind her ears and smiled softly at her reaction. They seemed pleased that she was so happy, and it even allowed them to trust Russell a little more. He was apparently a decent human; though just one out of many. Vale would still keep an eye out for any other anomalies.
“I am well,” they responded. “About as well as one could possibly be, in their own little corner of paradise.” They let out a small smile at their little ‘joke’ before straightening back up to focus on Russell again.
“You don’t have to explain yourself to me,” they said, tilting their head to the side. “I am not a guardian of animals. I’m not even a guardian of nature. I just am.” They shrug. “I’m well aware that many humans own pets. The pet-owners I pass judgement on are the ones that hurt their pets. Your Misty is in good hands, so relax.”

“I was looking for you, actually,” he admits softly, and looks from the water back up to Vale, that fond smile never leaving his lips. “I was thinking of you, and decided to come out and see what you’re up to.” And honestly, it’s a better day when Vidal is in their presence.
“i’m always here,” they say fondly. “never straying far from the woods.” they look back down at the wildlife, and notice how even the fish seem to perk up with life’s presence. turning to face vidal, vale presses closer to him, hands automatically coming up to touch his face. “we should do something,” they say. “i haven’t been alone with you in forever.” they sound like a petty human, but they’re past the point of caring. they just want vidal.

A delighted meow could be heard a short distance away.
“Yes, Misty, I know, we’re almost there,” a human voice replied, “I know you like it there, but you gotta wait for me so I can keep an eye on you.“
It was only seconds later that a cat came into view. She was a fluffy grey feline with big green eyes. She immediately stopped and looked at Vale, before giving a happy mew at what she assumed was a new friend. She immediately stepped over, her tail high in the air.
Russell soon followed.
“Misty, wait,” he said, before he saw Vale, a book tucked under his arm, “Oh, I’m sorry if she’s bothering you, ehehe, she just loves people…” it seemed he didn’t recognise them yet.
Vale looked up when they heard the cat, even letting their arm drop to their side. The stream returned to a more natural flow as Vale walked away, completely putting it out of their mind. They were now focused on the small creature before them.
“Hello,” they said gently, reaching a hand out. “It’s not often when I see a housecat out here.” It wasn’t often they saw a housecat at all, so this was definitely a pleasant surprise.
When they heard the owner of said cat, Vale straightened up. Oh, they remembered this young man. “Hello,” Vale said with a wave. “I remember you.” They moved closer, looking back down at the cat. “I didn’t know you had a pet.”

Most of the time, when Vidal wished to see Vale, he took a few moments to watch them in whatever act they were doing – so fond, so endeared. With Vale by the stream, it wasn’t any different for him as he watched. A moment passed before he took a step forward, and made his presence known. “Having fun?”
Vale’s gaze flicks up, eyes meeting Vidal’s briefly before they look back down. “The fish are entertained,” they say. They beckon Vidal closer, taking comfort in their presence. “What are you up to?” They lower their hand and turn all their attention to Vidal. “I don’t usually see you around here.”

They were standing by a stream, staring down into the water. One hand was positioned above the water, creating small ripples that blended into the waves. There was a serene expression on their face as they enjoyed watching the wildlife interact with Vale’s current teasing. If anyone should happen to be wandering through, Vale would no doubt show said visitor a few tricks of theirs.

“excuse me. do you know where the nearest frozen yogurt shop is?” they don’t LIKE being here. it’s already too loud, too busy. they ALREADY miss the quiet serenity of the forest. however, the lure of sugar is more powerful, and vale cannot ignore this craving much longer. unfortunately, they don’t know where a shop is, so they have to ask the first human they see.

“Ehehe, each to their own. I don’t really pictures of people without their permission, but yeah, ehehe, I try and respect other people’s wants,” he said. That was his main reason for putting the camera away.
He did have a strange feeling that this person was connected to the forest, like they owned it, or lived here, or had some kind of supernatural affinity. But if that was a possibility, his books never mentioned a cryptid such as this.
Even so, it was better not to say anything about it.
“Ehehe, I try not to,” Russell said, before his eyes widened a little bit in some alarm. This person knew about what happened in his base, “Gaia…”
He had to search his memory for that name, but he remembered. Gaia was a personification of the Earth and living things, if he recalled correctly. Was this person some kind of ascended worshipper?
He brought himself out of his mind so he could at least try to answer.
“I’ve, ehehe, grown used to it since I signed up for my job, ehehe,” he admitted, as his cheeks grew a bit pink from the scrutiny he seemed to be facing, “Its not something I really think about to be honest, ehehe…”
He rubbed at the back of his neck again.
“It’s not up to me either, ehehe, our bosses tell us what to do and we do it, ehehe,” he said, shrugging his shoulders, “I mean, I wish I didn’t have to do it sometimes, but until I’ve got some money together, I don’t feel like I’ve got much of a choice, ehe… I’m sorry, I’m not sure if there’s anything I can do about it, ehehe…”
He looked down for a moment and then looked back up.
“Gaia is the name of the planet,” Vale says, figuring they need to explain things to the human now. Humans in general probably need that prodding, and Vale has to remind themself to be patient. Life would be disappoint to learn Vale has been rude and dismissive again.
“I am not Gaia,” they continue explaining. “I am a part of Gaia.” They hesitate here. How do they explain that they are eons old, and very much tied to everything the planet is? No human could comprehend that. Still, Vale knows they should make an attempt to put the human at ease.
“I am Vale,” they say. “I am nature.Everything you are in, is me.” Perhaps that sounds too arrogant. Does it really matter at the end of the day?
“You are used to blood and violence and death?” They tilt their head to the side, frowning. They do not like how this sounds; they do not like anything about this. “Was there a time where it did bother you?”
Not that they can convince this human to turn his back on everything he knows, but maybe Vale has a purpose here after all: to remind this boy of his rooms. That thought gives Vale some semblance of comfort.

Russell looks down to the camera for a moment, a sheepish look forming across his face. It appears that he noticed just what they were glaring at. There is not much he can do about it except put it away.
He picks it up by the cord and drops it inside of the hoodie he’s wearing.
“Um, ehehe, thanks, I won’t like, ehehe, do anything bad, ehe,” he says then, “You know, that kind of thing just isn’t me.”
He still has a feeling he shouldn’t stay. The person in front of him doesn’t appear to want anyone about. They were mostly having a peaceful time before he showed up.
“Um, ehehe, you mean my base, I guess? It’s like a home I share with people,” he explains then. He doesn’t need to say much more than that if they’ve seen it.
“It’s not really a town as such,” he says, rubbing at the back of his neck, “More like a… small homestead, if that makes any sense.”
“I’m not fond of technology,” they explain. It’s not like Vale has to explain anything, but they wonder if the human isn’t used to dealing with anything like Vale.
Does he know Vale isn’t human?
They suppose it really doesn’t matter if this boy knows or not. All that’s really important in this moment is that Vale doesn’t like technology. They nod approvingly when the camera is put away, out of sight. It’s easier to relax without worrying about being the subject of a picture.
“You don’t strike me as the kind to cause a lot of trouble. But your ‘homestead’ -” they use airquotes with the last word, “-is trouble. I don’t like the pain you’ve all inflicted upon Gaia.” They continue to stare disapprovingly. “Is death and pain something you’re comfortable with?”
Why are they bothering to lecture a human? Vale’s experience is that yes, most humans don’t care.

VALE HEADCANON
So quick sidenote -- I don’t think all the blogs exist anymore save for two of them but --
Vale has ‘comrades’ they associate with across all verses/universes. They are entwined with light, dark, life, death. These other embodiments are tied to Vale on a cosmic level, and Vale is tied to them. These other personification/embodiments will be mentioned from time to time, as they are all that Vale is.
The rest of them are who owns Vale’s love and affection, for more than just what humans feel. Vale may be able to love a human eventually, but they cannot love humans the same way they love the other embodiments. ‘love’ is just the simplest way to describe it.
I guess what I’m trying to say is whatever ships may happen, Vale will never love them as much as they love life, dark, death, light.

Russell had wanted to see this place for himself. Well, he had seen it already, but he had wanted to come and have a better look inside.
It was something else he had wanted to do since returning from the the dead and now he had a chance. He thought about inviting someone to join him, but his usual shyness about such things had won that argument. Maybe next time.
He hadn’t expected to get a little bit lost. He wasn’t too worried though. He would find a way.
However, that didn’t stop him from jumping when he suddenly heard a voice. A disposable camera was resting around his neck and it bounced against his chest.
“Oh, only a little, ehehe… Just wanted to come here for a bit, it’s real pretty, ehehe,” he said, with sheepish smile. His cheeks went a bit pink. It was rather dorky, “I’m sorry if I disturbed you, ehehe, I thought I was the only one here.”
“Oh, thank you, ehehe, that’s real kind of you,” maybe that was his cue to leave. He might have been invading on this person’s time alone, “I’ll head back there in a second, ehehe…”
He rubbed at the back of his neck.
“Sorry to like, ehehe, you know, as I said, just walk in on you, ehe,” he said then, looking away and then looking back.
They trace their fingers along the wall, gaze fixed upon the camera. It’s almost an instant dislike -- Vale hates technology and electricity and anything that’s not natural. They can’t fault the human for bringing it with him. They suppose if they were an ordinary human, they’d probably want some way to capture beauty as well.
“You’re welcome to stay,” they say, trying to sound inviting. There may be some gritted teeth involved, since they promised they’d be nice. At least an attempt is being made.
“What is the place you come from?” They ask. Finally, Vale sits down, folding their arms in their lap and trying to keep their facial expression light. “It’s not like any town I’ve ever seen.”
Truthfully, all towns and cities look the same to them, but this one, like few others, look different. There is pain involved, Vale can sense it. Lots of senseless death, really. Mysteriously, the humans don’t seem to actually stay dead.

It’s not often when humans wander too far outside their modern housing. Vale is used to the site, however. Most of the time, humans are never alone. This human being alone is rather curious, something Vale is not used to seeing. They watch this odd boy, not even bothering to hide or remain unseen. This is their territory, a human can play nice.
“Are you lost?” They finally ask. They’re tired of merely observing, and it doesn’t seem as if the human is going to cause trouble. Vale is aware of troublemakers, and they don’t think this human is one.
“Your town is back the direction you came from, if so,” Vale continues. “If it can even be called that.” That last part is muttered under their breath.

His first instinct is that this person isn’t human, and Scott’s sure that it’s accurate at this point - though he can’t guess what exactly they are. Still, he’ll stay polite, and continue the conversation as much as he can. If they’re drawn to Beacon Hills, it’ll be because of the Nemeton.
“My whole life, basically. It’s a pretty great place – though it kinda seems to draw in all sorts of people around here. Are you around for anything good?” Or are they here for trouble?
“Trouble?” Vale blinks, looking almost offended. They’re almost not sure how to respond to this, but they suppose it’s a fair question. Much like they are protected of nature and everything beautiful, this boy must be protective of this town. “I’m not here for trouble,” they respond evenly. Their gaze is fixed upon the boy, but the earlier bit of humor is gone.
“I’m here because there is pain in the trees.” It’s probably the simplest way they can describe this feeling they have. It’s not a pain that a human would be able to sense. Their senses are too dulled; their emotions are too simplistic. “This town is in pain.”
