Guys, if you still think THIS is a free democracy, I have some scary news for you.

Okay heads up for all Americans eligible to vote:

The Supreme Court just issues a ruling allowing Ohio and other states to purge voters from their election registration rolls due to their failure to cast a ballot in previous elections.

This is a major victory for the Trump administration and the GOP, and a direct consequence of the Supreme Court being stacked with more conservative judges (the votes were 5-4). This is also a huge part of what Trump/the GOP were counting on to save them in the 2018 midterm elections, which is where Democrats have been hoping to take back a majority in the House, giving them more power to combat Trump’s abuses of power and Republican legislation.

What this means is YOU CAN NOT ASSUME THAT YOU ARE REGISTERED for the 2018 elections, just because you SHOULD be. Thanks to this decision, red states can purge voters’ registration based on their not having cast a ballot in even just previous federal elections, NOT just the national Presidential elections. Effectively, if you haven’t voted in previous senate races or for congressional representatives in the past few years, that’s all they need now to say you’re no longer registered and need to register again.

They’re deliberately counting on people assuming they’re still registered and so not checking until after registration deadlines have passed, or showing up to vote this November and only then finding out they’re no longer registered, when its too late to do a damn thing about it.

And this is absolutely targeted at marginalized communities, low income voters, disabled voters, and basically anyone who simply can’t always AFFORD to keep on top of every federal election and show up to vote in every senate race, etc. Which not so coincidentally happen to be all the communities and voters who have the most to gain from Democratic victories in the 2018 midterms and are the least likely to cast votes for GOP candidates at this point.

This was absolutely a calculated effort aimed specifically at keeping the GOP in power with a majority control of the government come November, and unfortunately, it has a DAMN good chance of accomplishing just that if it goes by unacknowledged. I’m not looking to alarm or panic anyone, simply to say:

If you are a registered voter in a red state at this point, please please please do not take your registered status as assumed. Check on your registration status, look up all relevant voter registration deadlines for your state and district, CIRCLE THAT SHIT ON YOUR CALENDAR, and check your registration status AGAIN right before those deadlines pass, so you can be sure of it before its too late to do anything about it til the next voting cycle.

Whooooo man! If you thought I was tearing up when they pulled the curtain up for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas drama students to sing at the Tony Awards, you should have seen me the second the opening note of "Seasons of Love" hit! Grabbed my chest and said "oh no!" out loud! Instant sobbing!

Realizing that the same people calling millenials and Gen Z "snowflakes" and saying that kids are going to be mean to each other and that they just need to get a tougher skin when it comes to bullying, are the same people who are saying that kids can prevent themselves getting shot at in school by not bullying kids....

There's a girl in one of the ballet classes I teach. She's around 14-16. She comes to the teen class where there usually only 2 to 6 kids depending on the week, as opposed to the teen class I have where there's about 20, so this class usually gets to chat with each other and kind of hang out during class. And one week when I gave them an improv exercise for the end of class and let them go wild with it, she said the most beautiful thing to me-

"This class reminded me why I love dance, and I feel like I've been forgetting that lately."

Last night I was helping them with improv and gave them an exercise I always find useful when you completely blank and don't know what to do. After the BEST improv-ing I've seen her do, she said this

"This class is honestly the most informative class I've ever taken."

Both times I thanked her and said that means a lot to me. But honestly? I could have cried both times. Hearing things like that from a student makes every time students talk over me, ignore me, every eye roll, every blatant absence, worth it. Because to one student, I am helping her. I am improving her. I am important on her journey through this art. I am making a difference to someone. And that is worth everything to me.

Quick question? Why the FUCK did my Hogwarts Mystery character think that having her boggart dress as a clown and LITERALLY do the Pennywise the goddamn Clown dance from fucking IT, was less scary than her Voldemort boggart in the first place?!

THIS! Also, the whole Columbus story. We get drilled into our heads in little school activities that Columbus discovered America from 1st grade, despite the fact that our teachers know that shit ain't true! Why the FUCK are they teaching us incorrect history, and then having teachers correct it in later grades? It's not like we thought Columbus discovered America and only recently found out he didn't, so now we have to correct it for kids who learned it wrong. WEVE ALWAYS KNOWN THIS SHIT!!! What the fuck, American school system. And don't get me started on the whole genocide Columbus committed! We didn't learn that shit until HIGH SCHOOL! Where our teacher was confused why some of us still thought he discovered America! Sorry AP European History teacher. It's not your fault our teachers have been teaching us bullshit and then incrementally adjusting the nonsense.

TL;DR : the American school system teaches us incorrect history and then readjusts it slowly in further grades and it makes no sense why they don't just teach us correctly when we're young. Also, fuck Christopher Columbus.

1st Grade Teacher: The Natives taught us to grow crops and we all had thanksgiving! 


6th Grade: we might have kicked the Natives off their land, and for that we are so sorry.


Me: but did you mur-


Teacher: you’ll learn that in high school


12th grade: We killed that one Native and we are so sorry, but the BUFFALOS, WE WERE DICKS FOR THAT!!


College: It was genocide.

I've said it before but it still weirds me out that I am the only millennial out of my college friends. Finding out that 1994 was the last of the millenials and '95 on is Gen Z is weird. I'm in a whole other generation from all but two of my friends! What the hell?! It makes me feel roughly 1000 years old. GET OFF MY LAWN my dudes!
