POV: M.E.G Researcher Amanda Walker

Experiment purpose: Temporarily Classified

Begin Log

(Male researcher) “these next few images are the last of the uncorrupted images we managed to pull from your camera.”

(Amanda) “The damage was that bad?”

(Male researcher) “Yes unfortunately. From here, the images will be a bit difficult to interpret.”

(Amanda) “I’ll do my best sir.”

(Male researcher) “That’s all we ask Ms. Walker. Shall we begin?”

(Amanda) “Yes sir.”

(Male researcher) “we have an audio transcript from this one. I’ll play it for you.”

[tape inserts]

[tape plays]

(Rumbling)

(Shuffling noises)

Creature: (soft call)

(Silence)

(Creature sliding down the stairs)

Creature: (sniffing) (noise)

(Creature shuffling)

(Splashing)

(Water movement)

[tape pauses]

(Male researcher) “can you describe this?”

(Amanda) “I needed to rest. I was hurting pretty bad at this point. I found a random chair and sat down. Guess I fell asleep.”

(Male researcher) “there were no threats nearby?”

(Amanda) “Not at the time no. Everything was quiet. If there was anything, I’m pretty sure Stygian would’ve picked it up.”

(Male researcher) “you’re certain of this?”

(Amanda) “yes.”

(Male researcher) “Very well. Let’s continue.”

Experiment purpose: Temporarily Classified

Excerpt from researcher: “At this point, we’ve been walking and swimming around for quite a while. As you can see here, Stygian was getting tired. He certainly wasn’t alone in that regard. I don’t know how long exactly we had been exploring at that point but my legs and feet were beginning to ache pretty badly. While he wasn’t showing signs of pain or discomfort, he certainly was slowing down a bit.”

Excerpt from researcher: “We came across a few rooms with very pink lighting, or is it magenta? I don’t know but it was an interesting visual experience. Stygian seemed transfixed by something under the barrier.”

Excerpt from researcher: “I looked down, trying to see what it was. You can see the palm trees, I’m pretty sure those are artificial, there’s some pool side furniture, and some flamingo floaties. I still couldn’t figure out what the hell he was staring at.”

Excerpt from researcher: “I asked a couple times what he was looking at. The second time I asked he lead me down a flight of stairs. Turns out he really likes flamingo shaped lights. Once we got to the bottom, he wouldn’t move any further. No matter what I tried he was just completely enamored with the glowing flamingo. I decided to find a good place to rest and let him have his fun.”

You can’t have a proper Wild West fantasy story and have your cowboys be horseless.

Here are the refs for both main character’s horses. Both have unique personalities that I’m so excited to incorporate into the story.

These references are created from modified F2U (free to use) base lines. I’m terrible at drawing horses lol.

No clue how I’m gonna depict their story but I’ll figure it out somehow lol.

Got something a bit different this time. A couple characters of mine have gone through a design change and their story also had a setting change. Working with the Wild West genre is going really well for me so I’m keeping it. Going for a Wild West setting where supernatural shit is real and in the process of integrating with society. Werewolves, Lycans, Vampires, Magic users, Demons etc.

Will release official refs for these two soon >:}

POV: M.E.G Researcher Amanda Walker

Experiment purpose: Temporarily Classified

Excerpt from researcher: “We landed into a well lit slide area. The water here was up to my chest. Just deep enough for Stygian to have a bit of a swim. He seemed to enjoy that so I sat there for a bit just watching him. I’m so upset no images survived of him playing with that random life preserver floating about.”

Excerpt from researcher: “After he was done, he started sniffing at the four slides in front of us. There was seemingly no other way forward and there was certainly no way back. Two of the slides had bars blocking entry. I wasn’t sure if that meant anything or it was just the poolrooms doing its thing.”

Excerpt from researcher: “Aannnd there he goes. With no hesitation he just hoists himself over the bars. I don’t think he meant to but his tail clocked me right in the stomach on the way in. Felt like I got gut punched by Mike Tyson.”

Excerpt from researcher: “I rushed to look down and thankfully I saw him plop out of the tube safely. He looked up at me and made this weird calling noise at me. Sort of a roar but not a threatening one if that makes any sense. So I picked a tube and prayed it wasn’t going to whisk me away somewhere else.”

Excerpt from researcher: “As you can see here, it didn’t thankfully. The water down there was just as deep. Stygian came over and started head butting me. According to the other wanderers, that means he just wants affection. By now I’m much more comfortable petting him. I wonder if he considers that to be payment for his time.”

POV: M.E.G Researcher Amanda Walker

Experiment purpose: Temporarily Classified

Excerpt from researcher: “It’s a general rule of thumb that you should avoid going down slides unless absolutely necessary or if you can see where they lead. Even then, going down one may lead to death. I decided to try something. I pointed to the slide and asked Stygian if that slide was safe to take. He approached the slide, sniffed it, then laid down flat halfway into it. He started making that deep rumbling noise again, the same one I heard before. After about a minute, he shuffled back out of it, smiled and gave me a thumbs up.”

Excerpt from researcher: “I was still hesitant to enter the piss yellow, potential death tube. He could tell. He shuffled to the side, giving me another thumbs up and a smile. I can only assume that the rumbling he makes is his own form of sonar or echolocation. If it’s as effective as dolphins or orcas, he could probably “see” for well over a mile away. As you can probably tell by the fact that I’m not dead and we still have more images to get through, his sonar does in fact work.”

Experiment purpose: Temporarily Classified

Excerpt from researcher: “A smiler made its presence known. The second Stygian laid eyes on it, he let out a terrifyingly loud roar and rushed it. I didn’t know he could move that fast. Forgive my French but It scared the shit out of me. A tigers roar is able to temporarily paralyze prey in fear. Not only does his roar sound extremely similar, it has the same effect. It stopped both me and the smiler in our tracks. It even changed its expression. Not quite a frown but…that’s the first time I’ve ever seen fear on a smiler.”

Excerpt from researcher: “I have no memory of running away or how I ended up in that dark corridor. At first I was alone, shaking and hyperventilating. For a while I could hear a faint, deep rumbling through the halls before Stygian found me. I was still shaking. He approached slowly with a concerned expression on his face. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel quite so scared anymore. He let me hold his hand while I got my nerves under control. Don’t look at me like that, it genuinely helped.”

Excerpt from researcher: “The areas we walked through were extremely dark. My flashlight was acting up the entire time. When we got here at this pillar, it finally gave out. I tried everything but it wasn’t going to work. I’d just have to make do without it. I know for a fact I changed the batteries before I left. Either I grabbed the wrong one, or Jerry swapped his with mine again. I’m gonna have some words with him when I get back.”

Excerpt from researcher: “I know I’ve already spoken about how he moves but still. How well do you think a legless creature of this size would be able to climb up a massive staircase? He did slip a bit a couple times but nothing like you’d expect. Also, look at that face. I have no clue why he made that face at me but come on. You can’t tell me that’s not adorable. I’ll admit it, Stygian grew on me a bit.”

Excerpt from researcher: “While I was jotting things down, Stygian was becoming agitated being near the cloud fixture. He made a few noises, a high pitched whining noise, an irritated growl, and a deep rumbling sound. One moment he’s sitting there patiently, the next I see him sliding under the barrier and into the water below. Not wanting to be left behind, I followed.”

“Turns out I didn’t have to worry too much. He was waiting for me, looking back and forth between me and the doorway with this anxious look on his face. He was still making a few noises at me, indicating he wanted to leave. He wouldn’t move until I entered the doorway. Once I was a fair way down the dark hallway, he began following.”

Exploring with Stygian part 2.

POV: M.E.G Researcher Amanda Walker.

Experiment purpose: Temporarily classified.

Excerpt from Researcher: “Watching him “walk” for lack of a better word, is kind of fascinating. You’d think he’d be struggling far more than he does, similar to seals or walruses. Instead it’s closer to how crocodilians move. It’s collectively accepted that Stygian is not native to this place. With how well he navigates and traverses it, you could be forgiven for thinking otherwise. Thus far, he’s the only instance of his species found in the poolrooms. He makes no attempt to hide or avoid people so if he originated here, you’d think he would have been spotted far sooner.”

Excerpt from Researcher: “These Mario cloud fixtures started making short laughing noises. It startled him initially. He calmed down after a few moments of sniffing and poking the fixture. I will admit, it freaked me out too. There’s no visible electronic components on these things so I have no clue how or why they laugh. At very least, they don’t pose any threat. The laughing is just incredibly creepy. I know a couple colleagues who’d be interested in these things.”

Exploring with Stygian part 1

POV: M.E.G researcher Amanda Walker

Experiment purpose: Temporarily Classified.

Excerpt from researcher: “I wasn’t sure what to expect when I found the creature. According to the wanderer I spoke with, Stygian is very friendly, so long as you’re not being mean or threatening. Another wanderer informed me of what it considers food. A wretch is half a step away from human. Anything strong enough to take down a skin stealer is terrifying on its own. To say this made me nervous was an understatement.”

“I admit, I instinctively backed away as it tried to approach me. It seemingly understood and it just laid back down. Eventually I worked up the courage to approach it. Remembering something else the man told me, I held out my hand towards its face. It happily accepted the affection. The genuine smile it has looks so human that I almost forgot I was essentially putting my hand on a bear trap. As per my instructions I told it that I wanted to explore but I didn’t feel safe going alone. I asked if it would come with me and it nodded at me. It’s both reassuring and deeply unsettling that it can understand what I’m saying.”
