Well look who it is! He’s genuinely happy to see you.
Stygian facts: He eats bones so even creatures with no flesh are on the menu. Even if they are neon, glowing abominations. Liquid silence won’t save you when the thing hunting you can see colors glowing in the dark. He has a bite force of 2,500 psi.
Side note: his eyes reflect light from flashlights or cameras.

Updated Stygian size chart. He’s a big boi lol.
Stygian facts: He is able to traverse solid surfaces surprisingly well, using his arms and front pelvic fins to move out of water. He can keep pace with a human running for a short distance. In most cases, he can be easily outrun while on land. When “running” he will lift his tail towards his back and move swiftly in a sort of “galloping” motion. This behavior has only been observed is when wanderers have harassed Stygian to the point of violence. His chasing behavior is the final warning before you’re treated as a threat. Once this point is reached, he will try to kill you on sight.

An apex predator having fun.
No clue where the round floaties came from. They’re just kinda there now.
For a creature with no legs, he’s surprisingly well balanced.

Encounter in the upside down
This time the background is made purely by me (hence why it’s so simple. I suck at backgrounds)
Some areas of the poolrooms (I imagine at least) don’t follow the laws of physics. While Stygian is not native to this place, he’s become an expert at navigating the poolrooms. Even the more “non-euclidean” sub levels, being able to travel between them as he sees fit. Theoretically this can apply to other backrooms levels that have a large body of water. This has yet to be attempted.

Stygian getting pets from a friendly wanderer.
Stygian facts: He has a multitude of sensory organs in his face, primarily his cheeks and chin. This aids in detecting movement and vibrations in blackout areas of the poolrooms. It has a bonus effect of feeling very nice when touched. Stygian enjoys affection and will lightly head but friendly wanderers when he wants affection. He will occasionally bring helpful goods in exchange for face pets. This action has the added benefit of restoring the wanderer’s sanity.

Stygian hunting in the danger zone.
Mild content warning for skinless wretches, mild gore and unprofessional leg amputation.
Stygian facts: he is a hyper carnivore (like polar bears). He primarily feeds off Wretches and Skin Stealers. He will also feed off of those who have drowned or been killed by other entities. He will consume everything except hair and clothing. He will ambush his prey and attempt to drag them into deeper waters to drown them. If the initial attempt fails, he will overpower the prey and decapitate them with his jaws.

I'm so happy I decided to check out your blog, you have some absolutely delightful art!
Could I ask to hear more about Stygian? He seems so neat and I absolutely adore those backroom pieces.
I don't know anything about backrooms other than that they're liminal spaces(?), but I've been seeing photos like that on Pinterest and I ALSO keep mentally putting mer in them, but I've been too busy to draw them. Seeing your pieces makes me super happy, they look so fucking cool!
And, last but not least, who are your other critters? They seem super interesting from the art you've posted for them so far. If you have the time, I would love to hear about them too :)
Hope you have a good day!

(tagging myself since i cant ask on my sideblog haha...)
Ok so. I don’t have all of Stygian’s stuff written out yet. If you want to learn more about the Backrooms, I’d look up Broogli on YouTube. All I’ve got for him at the moment is this.
1. He is an ambush predator who hunts in the Danger Zone and occasionally the Deep End.
2. His prey consists mostly of wretches and skin stealers but he will also eat wanderers who have drowned or been killed by something else. He eats everything except hair and clothing.
3. He is not actively hostile towards people and enjoys interaction with them. However, by technicality he is a man eater. It’s a bad idea to make yourself a legitimate threat to him.
4. He is unable to talk but does understand human speech. He likes interacting with people because he is very lonely.
5. You can pet him. Doing so will help restore sanity.
As for the other characters I’ve got on here, all of them are from two connected stories I’m writing. You’ve got Atlas and Varian harassing the Thalmor. Then you’ve got the foster family, Simon, Kurtis and Nichole. For the moment, I’m keeping details on them sparse.
