If Not For The Virus...
Last night I found myself in my kitchen into the late hours of the night. I was with my 2 roommates, who by the way were “randoms” when I moved in last August, so we aren’t past friends or anything.
We spent time coloring, baking cookies, sharing stories, laughing, and learning things about one another that typical surface-level conversation would never scratch. 
When the activities were over the conversations kept on. 
We stood huddled around the counters clutching mugs of hot tea. I remember thinking the setting felt comfortingly familiar, like the deep talks you have in the kitchen with your cousins after Thanksgiving dinner. And it occurred to me this morning that we did not once talk about the virus. 
We just talked.
And it also occurred to me that, more than likely, my roommates and I would not have taken the time to do that—just talk—if not for the virus. 
Now I’m thinking about ALL the stories I’ve heard just like this, where our current situation presented a new opportunity to gather or learn or create. So what if we changed the conversation? What if we all started highlighting these moments, rather than our limitations?
