I have never killed a man / but I have wished one dead / I have conjured the knife into my own hands / I have dreamed a wife into a widow / and did not wake up in a sweat / isn’t this the language we speak now / the people we can render invisible / so we can have more space /
—Hanif Abdurraqib, excerpt of "Five Prayer Fragments", published in Pinwheel

Exhaustion: the wearing thin of self by having to attend to too many things at once, hard up against each other. The wearing-thin-of-self includes anger directed back at the self for not doing any of it well, which in turn acts as a kind of sandpapering of the fabric of self, which is already worn thin. Some nights, water seeps from the cracks. By morning, any puddles have evaporated, leaving muddy residue and a shale of gravel, and things begin again.

K.Stew is giving full 90s dyke and god she is doing it so well. I’d like her to take me to the Los Angeles Philharmonic, wink wink.
