Willow beat him in a verbal fight

He was just joking…!

Oh sweet Arceus, he didn’t actually mean—

“Oh…!” Now should he speak up and wave this off as a silly misunderstanding? He was teasing a little! Seeing the “heartless Vicious of Team Rocket” get embarrassed at his antics made the day more interesting and the playful Professor liked to push his buttons.

But…well…can’t say he wasn’t equally embarrassed and curious where this is going to go-

“ We can both use a nap then…!” And it did get him off his desk for once. The long stretch Willow made quite the crack. “ Sure, sure! Bring a book along! I call right side of the bed though!”

And Willow would very quickly scitter off to the main camper, hopefully avoiding being seen flushed scarlet when he passed. Thankfully his living quarters were a little less cluttered then usual today. Strewn about field notes, piles of books, journals, leaves, dirt and random Pokémon left a pathway to his bed near the back of the camper. A moment of shoving stuff off the ends of his bed and gently shoo’ing slumbering Pokémon he had quickly thrown about his work attire until he was down to his undershirt and pants. Usually he preferred even less but uh…he has an unexpected sleeping buddy today.

And when he thought he heard footsteps Willow scrambled into the bedside trying to look as cool and collected as possible. Nope, totally not a joke that went too far! Not at all!

“ What?? You’d do all that just so I can go to bed correctly?” A mock look of surprise lights up Willow’s face…, but there was just the slightest bit of playful hum. “ Well now a bedtime story is a bit much. I better fall asleep to my favorite field journals and research notes! …But I do have a soft spot for ‘If You Give a Maushold a Cookie’ every now and then.”

More mischievous sneering happens. He’s leaning real close to Vicious.

“ Tucking me in sounds really nice, but I do so well with a snuggle buddy instead~! Research shows you sleep double times better with a partner during nap times! Suuuper beneficial~! …Say you do look like you can use a nap right about now, hmmmm?”

“ Well ain’ that right.” A break from the concentrated, stern face to snort some laughter. He likes this kid. “But I’ll take that as a ‘no’ more then the usual then.”

The next show of scars had answered the rummage of questions he had to deduct himself with the little Ree hinted at. Usually the Beast’s venom caused a radical change with reckless behavior and serious illness after. But Ree was tangled or grabbed by a tentacle perhaps. It didn’t completely envenom. The Beast usually latches on the head. Behavior grabbing for the midsection is not in his observations…strange. But anyways-

“ I really think it’ll give some pain relief and to help detox at the very least for you both.” Calm and warm again. Hearing their concern for their Pokemon had him especially touched. “It’s still in testing phase. But a far-off friend of mine who’s been helping me with it says it’s what they use where the problem is more common.” Course Rhi, an Ultrahuman, were — despite the layman’s name, not human. The medication had to be remade for humans and pokemon on Earth and they’ve nearly got it down.

After the last Ultrabeast outbreak it’d be feasible to find some earth-denizen defenses incase it happens again. Hopefully this wasn’t a sign for things to come. Could be an isolated incident. Wormholes were a phenomena in Alola and one could’ve drifted through. He doesn’t know and Ree was hesitant to share what happened.

But it still got someone and their pokemon. The situation is still tough. Willow gives a comforting nod to the Pokemon welcoming them from her pokeball slumber.

“ Try a little yourself first. I’m going to need help with Lady with a second pair of hands.” He’s gentle to take one of Ree’s scabbed palms and dollop the ointment where he saw it worst. Cool at touch and heavy like gel…but smelled faintly of rawst berry (a scent Willow had to have definetly suggested). “There’s a mild sting at first but that’s fine. It’s probably from the left over microneedles in the sting that’ll dissolve. Probably why it’s hard for you to move around too. Just work it through your burns until it stops hurting, kay? ”

“… it still hurts.”

“ I see…” The scar he did see but the details not so much. He had an observant mind and details immediately didn’t add up.

Out at sea…with their Togekiss? A flying type? The list of poison type pokemon in a Alola’s sea biome he’s studied and knows of didnt match the shape of the imprint either. This wasnt a tentacool or a tentacruel’s print and unless he was diving on his Togekiss to the sea floor and happened to be a Corsola, Mareanie and Toxapex were out of the question too.

…But he did know one other uncommon suspect that matched this mark perfectly.

“ Have you been feeling any ill after effects?” Serious now after he focused. Memorized first-aid and important notes crunching in his mind while he slid off his bag to get to work. “ Intense feelings of excitement? Anger? Or feeling faint? Your Pokémon too…”

Finally after much rummaging Willow pulls out a hinged box, the front marked in some odd language.

“ This is the good stuff. Not typical antidote ointment for your poison type stings.” And something he and a special friend have been working on since…a long story. “But I think fits the pokemon that got you.”

He knows. But he’s not here to question, prod and be suspicious of Ree. They’ll say something when they’re comfortable.

“ Bring out your Pokémon too. I think it could help you out both.”

" Ah..? Depending on where they came from healing varies...! " A familiar hum and the incredibly aware Professor Willow peeks his head from thick brush to investigate. Knee-deep in research again but so much as an interesting peep passes his hearing his attention snaps elsewhere.

Scars, scratches, wounds, cuts-all sorts, he's definetly an expert and wearing a few of his own beyond the lab coat--

" Sport! Burns will sting days to weeks after initial contact depending on severity. It's a rolling pain that comes and goes in intense waves. Electricity is more in the realm of shocks, tremors, and muscle spasms while leaving Lichtenberg figures, or electric scars, on skin. Feels stingy and intense. Poison only leaves scars if you've been envenomed! Not poisoned. Envenomed is the act of being pricked, bit, scratched, stung, etc that can leave scars, rolling or throbbing pain. And quite a slew of symptoms depending on what got you--" He was rattling off with his fingers the many many ways to get hurt but then something snapped him to attention.

" Anyways-! Start with where and what and go from there? " Head tilted with an open palm forward. Only if Ree was assured first. " Let's get you comfortable at least with some pain relief. I always have first aid on me and Im certified...! "

Similiar hungry minds, but very different lifestyles. The ability to study wherever and however gave freedom but traded stability. Lusamine need not have to worry when Aether practically funds itself and is so well known to people of all kinds.

" The feelings are more then mutual. And friends help friends accomplish anything! " Even for a moment's brush of contact the professor was all abuzz seen in lit up eyes and a wider smile while the rest of his excitement was tightly contained for now. He won't take her new found trust in him for granted. " I say we start brainstorming immediately. I understand Aether's research goes in many directions in Alola. Perhaps there's a field you need some leads in? Being everywhere and anywhere sometimes at once means having just as many topics researched and more then a person or two I can reach out for more! "

And goodness was Alola full of mysteries. Flora, fauna, marine-life...other dimensional even?? His previous long stay here gave him quite the journey to say the least (and ever the more happier about the data collected!).

The change in tone, the note of frustration, melancholy and even...vehemence made him part from his long stare into the horizon past the glittering Alolan waters. Imagine having incredible research and the ability to change the world with it .. but stalled by boundaries made in the same vein. After all she was the president of Aether, a conglomerate more then just a research lab. Responsibility to many outlets while keeping image was just the tip of her liability no doubt.

Far deeper even. More then he could know .. or stall his opinion.

What the professor realized with raised brows and an open smile was becoming a window of opportunity. GO and his research gave him open circumstance to act and work as he pleased. How could he take this for granted this whole time? Uncanny and phenomenal work methods (bordering chaotic) was already expected from him. It did always give groundbreaking discovery.

" I'd love nothing more! " Beaming through a content smile. This was still professional, Willow had to contain himself in eyesight. Let him be the vehicle then...! " Obstacles become few when people work together especially when we have incredible things to prove. There are few places I havent dared to cross..., with forethought in mind of course. "

Willow was both adventurous and bold but never from recklessness. Confidence was earned after all through many many experiences.
