I’m not sure if we’ll ever get another Five Corners Quintet album, given that the last studio album came out 7 years ago, but we can always revisit! The devil kicks.

Summer’s gone here and although the sun is shining, Autumn is coming in fast. Catch some Bossa Nova while you still can...

Put on ‘Time to Rearrange’ by Aaron Jerome the other day for a nostaliga trip and then remembered that I hadn’t listened to sbtrkt for a long while. New Dorp, New York is like an underground Uptown Funk.

Photos from the “Limbo” exhibit private view last night! It’s running until the 31st of May at The Stew Gallery down Fishergate in Norwich, and if you get the opportunity to have a look please do, it’s stuffed to the rafters with beautiful work by my course mates. Please excuse the gratuitous pictures of my face.

Everyday's a school day... Unsurprisingly, most have been won by writers of jazz album liner notes.
Liner Notes
I didn’t know there was a Grammy award for best album [liner] notes. It’s been around since 1964.

Far be it from me to drag you all away from Tumblr, but I've started a new blog for my longer, written, music posts. It's not specifically jazz related, all styles and genres are welcome. I would love to see you all over there sometime .... in the mean time I shall continue to post music here too!

One of the things I love best about Yusef Lateef is the fact that his albums can go from beautiful, smooth mid-tempo numbers like 'All Alone' (here), through to experiements in oriental sounds with an array of instruments - sometimes in the same track (Anastacia).
'Other Sounds' is one of those albums, with the first two tracks being those above. The final track on the first half of the LP is then a hard-bop style piece, just to throw you again. But everything hangs together so well, there's no feeling of disorientation!
