Using her own experiences and advice she was given when she first stepped onto the scene she brings attention to how normal degrading women is in hip hop culture-a culture where it's more important for a woman to be attractive than to be good at what they do-and the impact this has on women.

Theresa Emily Niklas talks about the origins of hip hop and how these songs often reflect the experiences of the artists. She also talks about how some female artists end up reinforcing the male gaze and sexism even when they claim that they are reclaiming their voice.

Theresa encourages the audience to critically engage with hip hop rather than criminalize hip hop.

She mentions the impact hip hop lyrics have on women and how they view themselves and how women in hip hop are presented to the world presently versus in the past when hip hop first started to become popular.
