I saw Beachwood Sparks with Noelle & The Deserters the other night at the Great American Music Hall. The new Beachwood Sparks LP just dropped and while it's short by their standards, it's a stunner from start to finish. I've never seen a band get into a group circle before they started playing. It kind of felt like I was at an NBA game.
And yes, this post was intended as a way for me to sneak in another plug for Beachwood Sparks. Head (Chicago, Illinois) play languid psych-pop with some harmonies. And while they certainly don't sound exactly like Beachwood Sparks, they certainly have the vibe down.
The "Head EP" was recently released and looks to be self-released.

I remember a few years ago being blown away when I learned that Jowe Head (Swell Maps) played for a brief period with BMX Bandits. To me, that's a pretty wide difference between sounds.
I was perusing Light in the Attic's annual sale and ran across Epic Soundtracks (UK based...also ex-Swell Maps) solo LP "Change My Life". What an amazing LP and an even wider difference from Swell Maps. "Change My Life", according to the Light in the Attic page sounds like Alex Chilton, Brian Wilson and David Bowie. I looked for it on Bandcamp, but instead found this post Swell Maps collaboration between Epic Soundtracks and Jowe Head. It's sold out on Bandcamp, but can easily be found elsewhere.
Glass Modern (London, England) released this and Mapache Records (Barcelona, Spain) reissued the Soundtracks solo LP.

The Russians - No Title (1980)
No Title is the actual title. This is another one of those Power Pop/New Wave tunes lost to time. Very catchy with vocals by the wonderfully named Julie Rebelowitchz.

There was a time in the late 1990s and early 2000s that I didn't either have or make time for new music. So I was surprised to see this release from Sacramento band The Frenchmen. I mean, this is right up my alley and I'd never heard of them.
Up my alley because this sounds like some holy musical combination of Vomit Launch and The Aislers Set. On the Sacramento scene in the late 90s/early 00s they must have been influenced by Go Sailor and Rocketship.
"Sorry We Ruined Your Party" is being reissued for the first time on vinyl by SAC Records. I learned about it because Papa Slumber (Bandcamp user name of Slumberland Records) bought this.
