MODULE 11 – ASSIGNMENT Looking into the Future
I learned some valuable subjects in this course. One of the most prominent digital trends that I have seen online is how to make your life more convenient. Receiving a FitBit for Christmas was a great motivation for me to count my steps and wake up early using the alarm clock without waking up my spouse. Yes, there are other sources, especially from the internet and social media, but you can get lost with an overload of information. What happens when my wearable technology device stops doing something that is the device's main feature? The clock's time is inaccurate as the days go by. It's weird to think about how a device can't function properly when other devices have an internal clock that you can turn off and still tell the time accurately. After resetting it and doing multiple syncing and calls from their technical support, I decided to live my life without a watch for a while.
Sure, not having a Fitbit to count my steps and receive text messages notifications did not ruin my life. It was inconvenient when I remembered I didn't have this device to stay connected. I learned from this course and specifically in this module that other technological advances can help us individually, or even better, be part of a community.
I am optimistic to see more technological breakthroughs in health & sciences. I worked in a Long-Term Care Home (pre-COVID) in Kitchener and saw firsthand a lack of workforce to support the elderly. There is not enough nurses/PSWs to patient ratio to monitor each resident. One of the biggest challenges was the family not visiting their parent during the strict lockdown last year. While studying this module, I came across an alarm monitoring company that families can monitor their parents while living in a nursing home or independently. Besides the camera feature, you can also watch their schedule and even notice if there is no movement at a particular time when they should be up in bed for meals or any activities.
I am still curious what a smart city can do to a community as an individual and for families. We are getting a preview of what a smart city can do to give us a better quality of life. I learned from this course how data is valuable that can be utilized to improve a system or a process. Living in a smart city will give agencies real-time data to understand how demand patterns change and adapt to a more efficient and effective lower-cost solution. Here are some innovative solutions that can improve the quality of life in cities:
·         Health: Improved chronic-disease treatment; data-driven public health information to the public; other digital tools and apps for patients.
·         Cost of living and more job opportunities: utilized online land-use and permitting administrative processes; lower electricity and energy cost; more digital hiring platforms; a smaller number of barriers for start-ups and local small business owners
·         Traffic and emergency safety: Enhanced for emergency responses; first responders will arrive faster; more lives will be saved.
·         Time-saver: more accurate public transit and train schedules apps; shorter commute; reduced gridlocks.
·         Better for the environment: monitor air quality; track electricity, water and waste consumption; lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Next year, I will be eligible to upgrade my phone. As much as I like my phone and it is still working perfectly, I have looked at some options that I need to consider when I am ready to get a new phone. 5G phones are one of the options, and I didn't know what would be the advantage of having one until I started studying this module. 5G technology is becoming a reality, and it would affect our lives more dramatically since the birth of the internet.  Two-thirds of US municipalities have invested in smart technology. With all the cities gearing up and investing in 5G technology, it will allow them to handle millions of Internet of Things devices that will help them manage traffic flow, provide better air quality and ensure public safety. As part of the smart city, we will see driverless cars operating and supporting millisecond-level latencies. And my favourite topic on how the Internet of Things can help us is Telemedicine. 5G will open the door to access valuable resources and critical developments in a very accessible and personalized medicine. A surgeon in China successfully removed a pig's liver from 50 kilometres away using the first live 5G-connected telemedicine surgery trial. More subjects will be covered on how the 5G and Internet of Things will help us with health & science and dramatically improve our socio-economic life across different industry sectors.

Module 9 Assignment - Ghosts in the Machine
As the CTO of the new healthy restaurant, here are some of my proposals to utilize the AI to attract and retain new individual and corporate customers. The company will rely on fresh and local food combining the technology to provide better food options for customers.
Name of the restaurant: Wild Thymes
Overview: Healthy options for tasty, fresh and caters to different dietary restrictions. Partnering with local Mennonite farmers within the Region of Waterloo and local craft brewers.
Business revenue breakdown:
1. 60% of the customers will come from catering start-up tech companies from Downtown Kitchener who will provide meals for their staff during business hours.
Big Data: The person in charge from the company placing the order will be the administrator and will have an easy fillable form that he/she can share with all their colleagues. This person will be the administrator who will have a login and password to access the website.  Each employee can place their order and provide their first name or nickname without providing a password. The website will ask for their dietary preference/restriction if it’s applicable on the first order. The website will collect data and based on their preference, they will receive a recommendation based on their previous order and dietary restrictions.
The company administrator will receive special promos that is targeted for the individual. Offers such as free meals during the weekend or the administrator’s birthday or work anniversary.
AI: As I’ve worked with some tech companies that provide meals to employees everyday, you will have a small number who tends to follow the latest diet trends. The Director of Menu from the company will manage food trends from for certain demographics. The company administrator will receive special promos not only from the restaurant but for other business partners. Any employees will have to sign up for their own individual account that is tied to the company’s account to monitor their spending and eating habits outside of work.
E-Wallet option: Companies who signed up and pay via PayPal account, will receive a 5% discount for every orders they place and a cashback that they can earn when they order more and can be used for future orders.
2. 40% of the customers will be pickup or delivery by ordering through a mobile app or through the website.
Big Data: When a customer goes to the website to place an order, there will be an option to save 10% on their first order when they sign up for the mobile app.
AI: Wild Thymes with partner with food deliveries and provide special promo offers for meals after 5:30 PM. As the catering orders slows down after lunch, the restaurant will focus on young professionals opting to grabbing something for dinner on their way home.
Mobile Banking: Wild Thymes will partner with some banks or even local credit union or even cell phone companies that will receive promos to new and returning customers.

Module 7 - Cybersecurity Lab Game
At the beginning of the Cyber Security Game, I didn’t know what to expect. I have to do it multiple times to understand the games.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It seems to be innocent with the characters, but it’s also apparent that the cat character on the left is naïve about running an online media platform.
Fortunately, they have a cyber security expert in their team. They don’t take the risk of their site seriously, even with some warning from the security expert team member. When the first cyber-attack finally arrived, that’s when they needed to beef up their security.
Tumblr media
I played the first cyber-attack and wasn’t sure how it worked, but I wish I had played it again to understand how to avoid it. I had 38 users in the attack on my first try. I’m going to try to back and try it again.
Tumblr media
Programming the bot to walk to the star seems to be an easy task. I’m not a programmer, but I thought it would be a walk in the park.
After attempting several times, I finally got the hang of it.
Tumblr media
I would miss a step, but it got easier once I learned how to modify the step-by-step actions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Password:
Cracking each password was a little bit tricky. Some of the passwords I used to crack the password are based on some of my old workplaces.  When the IT staff reset my password to something fundamental such as Summer-123 or Welcome-123.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I couldn’t seem to crack the password and outsmart the other user.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Social Engineering Challenge:
With more exposure to phishing emails at work, this was easier for me to identify a phishing or a spamming email.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This challenge is another excellent example that every internet user out there should be aware of. You don’t have to be working in an IT department or cyber-attack experts to identify a fake account, but not everyone is a tech-savvy user or aware of the current brand of a tech company.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I couldn’t move on to the next level (Level 2). I will revisit the challenges, hoping I can earn more stars for my following cyber-attack challenges.

Module 5 - Assignment
1. Misinformation
https://www.facebook.com/flavoursforlife/ This is a Facebook post of a local Filipino restaurant in Waterloo. I’ve been there before, and I like to support local businesses like this place. Last month, they released a statement on their Facebook page that might look harmless as they closed the dine-in section of their restaurant. The majority of the restaurant owners were hoping to have the dine-in options before stage 2 as there are not enough customers coming in. The main reason this restaurant closed the dine-in option, so customers do not have to show their vaccine receipt. They are not anti-vaxxers, but the owner feels they don’t want to put their staff in an awkward situation when asking for the customer’s vaccine passport. The restaurant believes that they don’t want to discriminate against people if they are vaccinated or not. The motive might be beneficial for the staff and trying to serve all their customers, but refusing service to unvaccinated is not discrimination according to Ontario Human Rights Commission: http://www.ohrc.on.ca/en/news_centre/ohrc-policy-statement-covid-19-vaccine-mandates-and-proof-vaccine-certificates
See the screenshot of their statement via Facebook post:

2. DISINFORMATION:
https://nojabforme.info/?fbclid=IwAR0DuJ3HII31UUY0OpZr54fl1onGOsbHbgdEcVtWEG3KHFp5Kqq09syGGCA
I found this link from my Facebook page from one of my connections. The Facebook user shared this No Jab for Me website: https://main.nojabforme.info/ that provides an option to get an exemption form with links to the list of US lawyers. You can also get a sample letter to anyone requiring proof of vaccination as a condition of employment or access to a school, gym, bar or restaurant. If you go to the next page: https://main.nojabforme.info/ there is a long list of manipulated and fabricated content links to reliable sources that can be misleading. Besides providing some reliable sources, the website has links to some misleading information that might cause harm. I can easily see why someone innocently viewing this website might easily believe that COVID19 is a hoax.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. MAL-INFORMATION One of the examples of mal-information is revenge porn or leaked images of someone - e.g. ex-partner, celebrities, politicians, etc. I won't share a link as most of the sites use an example that I found inappropriate. The leaked images of someone in revealing or sexually explicit pictures or videos posted online without their permission. The victim might experience trauma, emotional distress and embarrassment. There is one website that is non-consensual pornography (NCP) imageboard, also called a revenge porn site, allowing users to share the victim's personal information without the person's consent in the photo or video.  There might be a couple of reasons why someone would violate someone else's images without their permission, but causing harm and pain to the victim might be on top of the list.

Like most people, I have a love / hate relationship with digital media. Without a doubt, it makes my life easier every day. I would check the weather to decide if I should ride my bike or the public transit to work. While I'm getting ready, I listen / watch something from my phone while making coffee and preparing my lunch. I always pick the same YouTube channel or podcast. Someone who is familiar and very likeable. That is where the personal brand is vital to their followers. I don't have time to browse and pay a lot of attention while I'm brewing my coffee or making my smoothie. The YouTube channel or podcast that I'm listening to is focused on one thing, and they do it well. I would normally listen to Stephen Colbert or Seth Meyers for approximately 10 - 13 minutes which is my timer to brew my coffee, blend my smoothie and pack my lunch. They use the same approach for their monologues, different news but familiar enough that you can laugh at their punchlines even when you're not watching them. One of the keys to their success is having a niche as a talk show host. Sure, they made some changes to their segments, but they listened to their audience to what works for the flow of the show. Stick to what works and give what your audience wants. It reminded me of when I started photography. I learned that the best way to learn how to use a new DSLR is to go to the dog park. Make sure you bring your own dog as your main subject. When my nephew was about to turn 2, I decided to take his photos while babysitting him. When I started posting photos on my website, my sister asked me why I didn't post any photos of my nephew. I didn't post photos of dogs. The main reason is I don't want to confuse my audiences. As much as I love toddlers and dogs, I don't want to be a pet or baby photographer. I focused on portraits and weddings, so I posted pictures of my friends who were braved enough to be my models. As I learn how to use social media, I am observing how successful photographers and artist manage their content and what they provide to their followers. I believe that you can change your brand or style but make sure that you are developing or evolving to something better. I have a lot to learn as a consumer of digital media. My goal is to attract possible clients as a freelance photographer while keeping my 9-5 job. I have to be true to myself and enjoy what I do, but I have to remind myself that there are other people watching, that I need to find the balance to satisfy both sides.
