Part Of The Family | Katsuo | EPILOGUE
[CURSING TW AND TW FOR HAPPY ANIMALS]
Katsuo had never been happy over the prescence of tons of people, floundering around in a crowd, whooping and crying for their loved ones as they flooded him, making him uncomfortable and clammy. But…today? The thick air, the heated bodies, the love splattered all around….
….it was nice. So much nicer than the cold, almost metallic feel of the city. It felt so artifical, but this place? It felt real. It made him happy to be alive, happy to have left behind his boyfriend, and his possible redemption. Redemption could be gotten, but his life could not be replaced, that he had learned.
Holding onto Makoto, Katsuo looked like a dead boy walking. He had bags under his eyes, those bags sagging deeper than a sinkhole. His eyes were bloodshot and droopy, his expression bare. His limbs seemed to robotically move, in a sloppy, lethargic manner. The only thing seeming strong was his grip on Makoto, fearing just a moment away from her would lead to chaos. He had found his family, and now he never wanted to let it go. Never again did he want to be alone.
He gazed upon the crowd, seeing his peers either embracing loved ones, or taking in the reality of the situation, everyone unprepared for what lied ahead of them. Katsuo sighed, staring down at his feet. Still holding Makoto close, the boy simmered in a mixture of feelings, knowing damn well no one was waiting for him. No one cared whether he had perished or not. His aunt had even gotten captured, and whether she was dead or alive was still a mystery to him. Would he have even cared? Would she?
He guessed at this point it didn’t matter, considering it was the end, and no familiar face could be spotted. It felt bittersweet. He finally had family, but in return, he lost the lingering pieces of his actual bloodline. He was Katsuo Sunohara before, but now he was Katsuo Inaba. Sunohara was gone, and with his aunt and mother’s lives in limbo, who knew whether or not his family line would continue.
Who cared? He didn’t have a reason to care at this point. Makoto was the only family he needed, he had no one else to rely on anyhow, who could care? Who could care?!
Suddenly, Katsuo raised his head, green eyes breaking their gaze on the crowd and zoning into a certain section that held absolute chaos. People were running around, children being reeled back into their parents, splitting to reveal…
….many, many, many exotic animals.
3 wolfdogs, 2 parrots, iguanas, a snapping turtle, and….a small fennec fox, who looked familiar. The fennec fox came closer, now to reveal that it was Penny, wagging her tail and whining excitedly. She seemed to have wandered off, found Katsuo’s old pets and joined them together. Before Katsuo could even explain, the boy was tackled to the ground by the large hybrid dogs, them licking his face and exposed skin, their tails wagging so hard it could create a tornado! The other animals gathered around, dogpiling on Katsuo, practically squishing him in all the added weight. Somehow he was able to deal with this, as they all happily greeted him.
How could he have forgotten? He had family. No, they weren’t human, but he was never good with humans, so why try? Makoto was good enough, and the additions of the pets he had taken care of made him realize he never was alone.
Penny momentarily stopped licking Katsuo to come over to Makoto, jumping on a nearby elevated surface and curling around her neck, the same pose she routinely took on Katsuo. He was preoccupied with all the animals surrounding him. People stared, and people seemed to be afraid of this beastly boy and his companions, but if you looked at Katsuo’s face, you’d find it lighten up like a christmas tree, happy tears trailing down as he sobbed, grinning ear to ear.
He had found his family again.

Endgame [START]
Otome Ito was dead. Anyone looking at the screen would know that there had been no trickery, no body switches, and no more games. She followed her own rules, and not even the AI programming could break those rules. And now, of the twenty students who boarded the monorail into this city, only seven remained.
The room was still, as the world around them processed the gravity of these recent events. Could a month’s worth of despair truly be over? The screen above MonokumAI’s throne was turned off, and the despicable bear was no more. There would be no announcement of the end of the trial, and no jovial dismissal. Instead, the elevator doors simply opened, silently inviting the survivors to climb aboard.
Before anyone could move, Hoshi spoke up in his usual soft and tired voice.
“…if my idea worked…we should get out of here immediately. Guys…get to the…general store. The door in the back…leads to a storage tunnel in the floor…that’s…the emergency evacuation. If you…didn’t bring your important items with you…I don’t know if there’ll be time to get them…can’t be…much more than ten minutes…but…if you wanna risk it…”
He shook his head and said no more.
As the survivors disembarked from the elevators, some part of them had been programmed to expect another part of the map to light up. Just as with every previous trial, the power always came on once they were back out into the streets. This time, however, was different. Everything outside felt similar to how it had been during the last motive. All of the lights on the buildings burned even brighter than usual, and even the false stars seemed to be shining with everything they had in them. Overhead, alarms began to sound, and rotating emergency beacons shone from somewhere near the top of the dome.
Before any of the surviving students could begin to walk toward the mall, and hopefully toward their escape, a small army of floating bots approached and surrounded the group, blocking their escape. Before anyone could move, these bots began to extend odd mechanisms toward the students.
But these mechanisms weren’t weapons. Lights flickered inside of them, and soon projections resembling their deceased classmates became visible.

AI Protocol| ATTN: All
A series of holograms, each one resembling one of the students who had died in this city, stood in the streets and surrounded the survivors. Most of them did not appear initially malicious, injured, or otherwise angry. In fact, most of them looked as normal and alive as they did before the game had started.
There were, however, some exceptions.
Perhaps the most distorted of them all glitched in place. Katashi’s face was a multitude of un-synchronous emotions. Elation. Dismay. Fury. Forgiveness. Each flashed across his computerized features in a matter of milliseconds.
The Katashi program glared at the remaining students.
“YOU DIDN’T DESERVE HER. NO ONE DID. SHE GAVE YOU A FINALE AND YOU WEREN’T EVEN WORTH THE ADMISSION FEE.”
This projection flickered again, noticeably Komet, stable yet sobbing digital tears.
“OTOME… DON’T GO. WHERE ARE YOU!? OTOME DON’T GO-O-O-O… I… I miss you…”
Katashi resumed his fury.
“SHE’S GONE BECAUSE OF YOU-OU-OU, AND YOU’RE GOING TO P-P-PAY.”
As did Komet with is pain.
“SHE DIDN’T DESERVE TO DIE. I-I’D DIE AGAIN AND AGAIN FOR HER,”
“YOU’RE GOING TO DIE AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN FOR HER.”
“THERE’S NOTHING LEFT FOR ME.”
“THERE’S NOTHING LEFT FOR YOU.”
“I’M GOING TO R-R-R-ROT.”
“Y-Y-YOU’RE GOING TO ROT.”
The two warred back back and forth with and without one another. Their words mixed into an unintelligible cacophony shrieking. Further and further, the hologram twisted and expanded apart until finally pulling themselves together for one last one sentence, two voices in one agreed singularity.
“I LOVE YOU, OTOME ITO.”

AI Protocol | ATTN: Katsuo
First, a projected image of Masae approached Katsuo.
[ Sunohara-san. ]
The automated voice rang out before she even took a glance at him. Her turn towards him was delayed a bit, as if she didn’t even want to really see him.
[ Do you really think anyone is going to forgive you for the way you acted during this entire stay in this city? Especially Inaba-san, who at least tried with you? How dare you even show yourself in front of her… she deserves better than what you can offer… ]
I was almost as if Masae wasn’t even believing her own words. Perhaps it was more that she couldn’t believe she was having to say these words in the first place. She felt that maybe she should’ve been angrier, but when it came to Katsuo…? She felt almost nothing. All she knew was that it wasn’t fair that someone like him had another chance, while her life was cut short for absolutely no reason… after everything she had done, after all that she had tried to do… nothing changed the fact that he was ready to leave here, and she was stuck. Forever.
[ Do you even know that the reason you even have the opportunity to get out here and start over again is because someone had to get her hands dirty and find all those clues… find out how this place worked… everyone else had to go through hell and back multiple times while you did… you did nothing. How does it feel, stealing whatever you can from someone, stealing someone’s opportunity to even live, even though you, out of anyone here, probably doesn’t deserve it…]
She sighed out, closing her eyes. There was a glimmer of some sort of recognition of the old Masae Katsuo may have known- someone more vulnerable, kinder, easily walked all over… but it was quickly drowned out with one single glare towards his direction.
[ You’re just going to take all the credit for knowing it was Hime, without really doing any of the hard work… if you really knew, then why couldn’t you save me…? Save all of us…? Why couldn’t you save… Averin-san? If you really cared about him? Why didn’t you do anything? ]
Her finger ghosted over her PDA, without any more care into the gesture.
[ You’ll live a life filled with guilt, knowing that that life could’ve been better lived by someone who deserved it… Just… remember that, the next time you knock over the mug of some other deaf girl… or when you take a nap during an important meeting where everyone else in the room is fighting for their lives… and the opportunity for you to live yours. You don’t deserve one bit of this freedom, this second chance… and you know that… ]

The Last Stand of the Inabas | Makoto / Katsuo | RE: Endgame
Makoto held nothing but contempt for her. That much was pretty well clear by now, Otome had too much blood on her hands. At one point Makoto held thoughts of saving her, helping her to cope with the darkness, in the same way Makoto herself had to fight to get out of her own. But Otome had gone too far. It was too late. She held nothing but contempt.
And then the pictures started to play. Realistic pictures, vivid pictures, grotesque pictures… As Otome continued to flash those pictures for them to take in, Makoto found herself holding something else… Her hands, to her chest. She looked visibly pale, biting her lip. This was all too vivid, too real…
It brought back too many memories, too many…
Before she knew it, she was rubbing her arms, trying to shake the nasty, clammy feeling that had come over her. She took a few deep breaths, hardly able to focus on the bloody end of the tormented girl. All she could do before they were ushered away… Was squeeze Katsuo’s arm, and whisper to him.
“If I hadn’t gotten out of there… If I hadn’t gotten out… I mighta ended up like that…”

You Don't Know Sorrow | Katsuo | Re: Otome, ATTN: Otome, Makoto
[TW: Swearing, Attempted Violence, Physical Abuse, Alcohol Mention]
Katsuo sneered when Otome began speaking, feeling anger pulse throughout his entire body. Her “reasoning” was a bunch of shit mushed together, and even if she did have that edgy character backstory, the boy had come to learn, over the course of weeks in the city, that a bad upbringing didn’t give you a reason to kill people. Nothing gave you a reason to kill people. But then, her mother. Oh, how he’d wish to have to not worry about eating. How he wished he didn’t stay in dangerous public places, fearing going home meant a dangerous bout with his drunken mother. Oh how he wished he had the wealth and education only money could provide. But if he got anything as a child, it was always a choice between some sort of good thing, or his survival. Even as a child, he knew getting that cool toy meant he wouldn’t eat for a week, or going home from school when sick would mean having to sneak in, and hope he didn’t get sicker due to the nauseating smell of dirt, piss, and alcohol. How could she be so ungrateful? Didn’t giving a child education and opportunities mean they loved their child?! The only thing he got from his mother was a case of bad memories and scars he could never forget. His body was the story of a discarded boy whose mother could care less about, if he had died, no one would care, no one would think twice about him missing school , or disappearing from the neighborhood . So hearing Otome talk so recklessly about her “bad childhood” made him angry beyond belief. So much so his signature fangs were bared, his expression as animalistic as it had been when Dimitri died. He suddenly lurched out, planning to tackle her to the ground, maybe take the gun and shoot her if he didn’t get shot first! Even if he did he wouldn’t care, his was blind to the consequences of this sudden action. But before he could do so, Makoto wrapped her arms around his shoulders, pulling him back and restraining him with a good grip. The boy resisted as much as he could, growling and swearing incomprehensible curses, fangs swinging to bite the crisp air. He couldn’t even reach her if he tried. So he continued on for a short few minutes, slowly coming to terms with the situation and winding down, feeling his heart pulse and his expression paling. The fire in his eyes went out, and there he stood, blank and terrified, clinging to Makoto.

humanity lost | katsuo | re: execution
[cursing, dehumanization, and general crappy behavior tw]
Watching Otome’s execution was like finally getting that paycheck at the end of a treacherous work week, or getting a good grade on something you worked hard on. His excitement and satisfaction was growing, it being shown by his wide grin and darkening expression, but despite the terror that was happening in front of him, the girl who was clearly the epitome of abused ending her life in this sick, twisted fantasy city, despite it all…
….he was happy.
No, euphoric.
And once silence and tears took the room by storm, he began snickering to himself, before it grew, into a normal laugh, and then, into a villainous, evil cackling. And by now, his expression and loudness was creepy beyond reasoning.
And then suddenly, he stopped laughing.
“….about damn time. Too messy for my tastes, but hey, the bitch is dead, what more can I ask for? A lot, actually.”
Before leaving, the boy spit on Otome’s podium, flicking his middle finger before huddling in the corner, done with the world.

❤★❤ LUNATIC★SHOW ❤★❤
tw: mentions of genital mutilation in a joking manner, mentions of male genital, swearing
AAAAAAnd that’s all she had left to say, that’s all the energy she had in her. Otome stood before them, incredibly happy. Despite the despair that was evident in every bit of her being she was smiling. Actually, Otome was practically glowing!! She was just taking in every last bit of attention she was getting- attention she finally deserved!!
“Hey~❤! Do you think that when they see my body~★!! all super gross and mangled up~❤!! that they’ll still be able to get it up~★!!!?”
She looked lovingly at the red button that MonokumAI had provided for her.
“Uwaaa~❤!! I hope they just can’t get enough of it~★!!! I super, duper, duper hope that when they see Otome-chan~❤!! in aaaaa~aaaaaaaaaaall~★!! of her guts and glory that they jerk it so haaaa~aaaaaaaaaard~❤!!!!! that they fucking tear their dicks right off~★!!! Otome-chan hopes that they finish and their dicks explode~❤!!!!!! because that’s how they want to love Otome-chan and Hime-chan~★!!”
She was moving around side to side, hands on her face as she turned a bright pretty red. There was a bit of drool coming out of her mouth. She just couldn’t believe how much she was loved!! They were going to see her first live performance and witness the actual power of a net idol!!
Otome just couldn’t hold back anymore and pressed that bright, red, juicy button in front of her.
“Woah~❤!! This is going to be Otome’s first live~★!!! Kyaaa~❤!! I hope it goes super duper well~★!!! Otome-chan worked soooooo~oooooooooo hard for this moment~❤!! Dicks out for Otome-chan, LMAO~★!!”
With all that said, Otome winked and stuck her tongue out to the side a little. She was going to be absolutely adorable!!
The doors behind her opened up as she blew a kiss towards the stupid, ugly, dumb, no appeal!! survivors! They didn’t even appreciate aaaaaall the hard work she put into this!! She took MonokumAI’s hand as he led her out of the room.
She turned one last time to face the Big Bad Bully himself: Hoshi Murakami.
“My~❤! City~★! Now~❤!!”
The doors behind them shut closed.

❤★❤ OH!★LOVE&PEACE ❤★❤
tw: sexualization of a minor, mentions of depictions of sexual assault/r*pe, mentions of depictions of child p*rnography, swearing, suicide baiting
All this yelling, all this fighting!! They really wanted to pry it straight out of her, huh? They reeeeeally wanted to see just what was hiding underneath those different faces and personas, didn’t they? They reeeeeeeeeeally wanted to watch Otome Ito break and fall from that super high tower, right?
Well being such the people pleaser that she was, their wish would be granted!!
Once the votes were in and everything was tallied up,she picked her head up slowly, looking towards Hoshi Murakami. The very one who spoke sooooo many hurtful words against her. But he was an artist, right? He drew so many great and fantastic pieces, so he’d be the one to reeeeeally enjoy this display!
Otome just smiled at him, not shaking in anger, not losing her cool, just plain smiling that closed eye idol smile Hime had become known for.
“You wanna see something super cool~★?”
Before he could answer the lights shut off. Was Otome Ito going to try and escape like some cartoon villain?
When the lights came back on instead of sitting on the throne or standing in front of it like she was, Otome Ito was standing on top of it, finally able to look down at her dear, adoring classmates. Behind her and all around them several televisions screens had been set up, almost like some sort of cage for them.
The outfit she was wearing wasn’t anything Otome Ito would ever chose for herself or for Hime. It was waaaay too revealing, hugging her tight in areas she didn’t like and exposing most of her midriff as well as having too deep of an angle around her chest. Her legs were completely covered up so maybe it balanced itself out? Who knew! Either way, this must be the super flashy and tacky mastermind outfit she didn’t want to wear before seeing as how the ribbons in her hair matched with the bear who stood besides her, pushing a little podium with a button on it closer to her.
She brought the microphone that seemed to have replaced the gun up to her mouth.
“Hello~❤! Hello~★! Hello~❤!!!!!”
She greeted, not caring so much about her appearances at the moment. All she cared about was this last performance!
“Woaaaaah~★!! You guys are such bullies~❤!! Kicking around an idol who just want to expose her super ultra very best to you~★!! Maybe you should be like the dumb dead poetry kid and follow Otome’s advice and kill~❤!! your~★!! self~❤!!”
She paused before giggling a bit, tapping her chin with her index finger.
“Actually, don’t do that~★!! You’re all super important~❤!! Super great~★!! Super talented~❤!! And Otome wants to show you juuuuuuuuust how much I appreciate you by giving you a super exclusive Q&A~★!! Yaaaaay~❤!!!”

[cursing tw + male genital reference tw]
Uck, all this repeating of what Katsuo had be enforcing for the last month or so! Why did it take those losers an entire time to investigate when he had it in the bag? And why wasn’t he included? Was he always going to be an outsider, even in the end?
He…He didn’t want that. Not anymore, at least. After bonding with Makoto and Dimitri, being a loner just wasn’t his thing. He liked friendship, he liked affection, he liked having people to count on instead of getting mugged and beaten up like his past “friends” had done to him. And after all this murder bullcrap, he yearned these relationships, now knowing his life was more precious than he had previously thought. It was fun wanting to end, but now, he wanted a beginning.
And this was the best way to start it.
“Guys?“
His voice was unsure, it’s confident air seeming to have disappeared in the blink of an eye. Penny hopped up on his shoulder, her tail coiling around the boy’s next in order to give him some comfort. As he tugged on his hoodie sleeves, the boy attempted to fix what had been broken so many times before.
External image
"I’m sorry….for everything. For….attackin’ you guys, physically an’ figuratively, for the lying, the hurting, for th’ insults.” His voice hitched up and down, nervous. “For….being such a dick, especially when I had people to guide me.” He looked towards Makoto, eyes gleaming.
“‘Cause when push comes t’ shove, this is the only group of motherfuckers I’d wanna be trapped in a murder game with….” He gave a small, sheepish smile, showing that signature missing tooth proudly. “I wanna join Dimitri soon, but until then, take care of me, okay? I-I could use more family…."

Hearing footsteps coming towards him, Katsuo immediately turned around and heard a distant voice. He could've sworn it sounded familiar, but he couldn't be so sure until it came closer. As the person approached, he saw her trademark blonde hair, and knew suddenly she was okay.
He mirrored her worry, accepting the hug happily, reciprocating it, squeezing a little even. That was too close for comfort. What if it had been her? What could he have done then? Break down like he had with Dimitri, or suffer in his own decaying mind? Whatever! She was okay, that was all that mattered.
"I was so scared...th' burns, i-it could've been you, it could've...."

family comes first | katsuo | chapter 5 | body reaction
(TW: Swearing)
“What the everloving fuck is that?!”
Oh god. Oh god, oh god, god, god.
All this surviving, all this waiting, for the grand finale (or so it seemed), to be this. A giant explosion, the motive prematurely stopping, and the presence of a body he had hoped wasn’t important.
Cautiously approaching, Katsuo shakily placed Penny in his bag, making sure her head was tucked in just enough not to see the atrocity in front of her. He…couldn’t make out the face, but the clothing…? It…
“Makoto.“
"Makoto? Makoto? O-onee-chan?! Please, don’t be her, please don’t be her! Makoto!! Makoto!!”
Running away from the body, Katsuo went to search for his big sister, fearing the worse.
