Merello/Volta Monument: This 8 foot tall bronze sculpture is a depiction of a grief stricken young woman in her wedding dress. She is clutching a bouquet of flowers and appears to have fallen on the church’s steps. Time and weather have only served to make this sculpture more forlorn by etching stains running down her face that look remarkably like tears. Amazingly, nothing else is known about the monument, but the rumor persists that she was a relative of a gangster and was shot for revenge. This is located in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York. THIS. Let people go to the restroom they feel comfortable in. Is that too much to ask!?
In my highschool we are putting these signs up. We put the first picture up and if someone rips it off, they get the one to the right beneath.

Gay people are marrying in droves in China — but tragically, not the way you think
"Xinghun," or cooperative marriages between gay men and lesbians, are an increasing phenomenon in China. This isn’t happening because homosexuality is technically illegal — it was decriminalized in China in 1997 and declassified as a mental illness in 2001.
Instead, the situation reflects a deeply traditional cultural issue.

I think that every choice is political. When you decide that a woman can be a character of her own and not have to fall in love with the f***ing guy, that’s a political choice. When you choose that they can speak in their own language and be subtitled, that’s a political choice. I think it’s very important for us to understand that we are all — the whole world — in the same robot. It’s this f***ing planet. No matter who you are, what you like to do, whatever your race or whatever your religion, we’re all human. And I think it’s really great to make a movie that celebrates that diversity.
Q: I really appreciate the fact that you have non-American actors speaking their native languages, instead of making it seem like everyone in the world speaks English like it usually is in most Hollywood movies. Why is Hollywood so allergic to subtitles? — Interview in Today Online with Guillermo del Toro, 11/07/2013
BAAAHHHH WHY IS HE SO GREAT

Now all I want is a hammock.
Medical research suggests that hammocks allows users to fall asleep faster and sleep more deeply compared to a traditional, stationary mattress.
"It is a common belief that rocking induces sleep: We irresistibly fall asleep in a rocking chair and, since immemorial times, we cradle our babies to sleep," researcher Sophie Schwartz of the University of Geneva in Switzerland says in a news release.
Researchers found that not only did participants fall asleep faster in a hammock, but the gentle rocking motion also changed the nature of their sleep.

“ethereal” — (adjective) It is nearly impossible for the word, ethereal to escape one’s mouth without meeting beauty in the same description. Our love for ethereal is conceived from its metaphysical urge. Its intangibility of all things refined, delicate, otherworldly, light, and airy add to its celestial allure. To call someone or something ethereal is one of the highest compliments in the philosophy of beauty. Ethereal’s beauty is revealed by its harmony of pronunciation, aesthetic and exquisite connotation.

This is awesome :) Many city centres are already very walkable anyway and cars are just in the way for no reason. Parking is already too expensive and so unhealthy. Just take public transport, or park and ride!
Urban planners are finally recognizing that streets should be designed for people, not careening hunks of deadly metal.

Daniel Radcliffe wins the internet.
Your character falls into the “friend zone” - Is this primarily a man’s problem, or are women put in the friend zone as well? x
#friend zone#gender roles#stupid society has rules that don't make sense and make certain genders the victims when there are no victims#there are only stupid perpetrators guilty of following those stupid rules.#nice guys don't finish last#women dont collectively have a jerk preference

Love it, an entire workshop dedicated to teaching youngsters about gender policing. I wish they had also brought their parents in for the talk. Could have created a common baseline to have family conversations with. I know from experience, when I learnt something in school that I wanted to discuss further with the parents, It was hard if they had no idea what we were taught. If nothing else, a handout from NCFW explaining their main points.
Thank You Amrit Vatsya for this project (Shaadigrapher.com)

Researchers at the University of Western Australia decided to revamp the way they studied Viking remains. Previously, researchers had misidentified skeletons as male simply because they were buried with their swords and shields. (Female remains were identified by their oval brooches, and not much else.) By studying osteological signs of gender within the bones themselves, researchers discovered that approximately half of the remains were actually female warriors, given a proper burial with their weapons.
"We have always been there, ‘contributing to history’. Our own, modern sexism contributes to the erasure of it."
P.S. Shoutout to my university (UWA FTW :D)
