Ralph Fiennes as Odysseus and Juliette Binoche as Penelope in The Return (2024)
#I have been excited about this movie for months#and it was a great time#the return#is it for exactly like 3000 nerds who are too into Greek mythology/epic poetry#who simultaneously don’t mind a reasonably modern interpretation#(and will accept that Telemachus just looks so much like a surfer I hate how they styled that actor)#but I was one of those 3000 nerds#and I had a wonderful evening at the movies

rb this and tell me what ur accent is. this has no purpose except the fact i just realized i could have like... mutuals with cockney accents or newfoundland accents or something and thats just wild
#I think I sound Californian all the way#a friend’s husband confirmed he hears it— a downward inflection at the end of most sentences that’s very California#and I agree— more SoCal drawl-y version of the American movie accent#but sometimes people ask?#when I’m tense/nervous it shifts closer to something like a movie transatlantic accent— an American version of posh#when I’m being sardonic it’s a bad impression of Minnesota/Wisconsin-ish midwestern#not often but I’ve had one or two people be like “wait where is your accent from?#once a student was like “wait you’re British?#and I shifted it back from faux-posh to California slowly over the sentence explaining that no I was not#(it was a little unsettling how it drifted closer to normals with each word lol. student’s face was priceless)#and once a friend’s dad just straight up went “wait where is your accent from??#because whoops faux-trans-Atlantic from being nervous about meeting people#but they don’t sound legit to me— they sound like a Californian doing a bad impression 😂

I grew up in southern California and every class in sixth grade would take a field trip and go to a camp for a week and this is absolutely bewildering my wife cause she's never heard of sixth grade camp
