Dainsleif barely let out a smile as Kaeya began speaking. He had responded almost too well, but now wasn't really the time to look a gift horse in the mouth. When the other man moved however, they blinked rapidly, before turning their gaze to the side. The brief contented look returned however, albeit barely noticeable, when the blue haired man said the magic words. It was all miraculously falling into place. Hopefully Dainsleif would be able to deliver, in the same fashion he used to all that time ago. It had been a while since any leads reopened on the cold trail of those they were once dutybound to.. two birds in one go was not a bad deal at all.
❝ Haha.. unfamiliar? That's a fair observation. ❞
They chuckled, somewhat scornfully. The only other one who could possibly be as out of place as he in a city like this, would have to be.. them. Still, they had long since parted ways- and views. Perhaps this was a.. better arrangement anyhow. Dainsleif would not hesitate to go against them, but they weren't keen on simply negotiating with him either. So as much as they yearn to answer Kaeya's answer in full, as they once would've without hesitation, Dainsleif had grown selfish. If the future of destiny was written so or some such, the one leaning over them would realize the past as well.
❝ It could be because I'm more of a wanderer, myself, have been for quite some time now. I suppose you could even call me a.. traveler of sorts. While I once had someone to travel with, they've long since found themselves a different goal. So now, here I am with mine. Anything to do with the Abyss, really. ❞
They weren't lying, just omitting some of the (for now) definitely less important details. As a result, despite him still not looking in Kaeya's general direction for.. personal reasons, Dainsleif's voice still remained as steady as it had throughout the entire conversation. Questions about the true origins of both of the people sitting here would have to be a date rescheduled for later.

The stranger had been sitting here a while. While his presence was incredibly out of place, the other patrons were too drunk and the current bartender too exhausted to take notice or care. A singular, still completely full mug sat in front of him, but it was clear his focus was on something else. Despite seeming zoned out, the man was entirely too observant.
The drink was just an excuse, it seemed. It wasn't at all clear what for, though. He seemed to take no interest in any of the loud chatter coming from the only other occupied table in the tavern, not even sparing a glance. After what seemed like an eternity, the other customers sloppily stumbled out into the warm afternoon, and Dainsleif was finally alone with his unreadable thoughts.

Although they supposed it was to be expected, it still felt unnatural how nonchalant Kaeya was acting. It wouldn't have nearly as much information on the Abyss as someone else in the city might, but despite his curiousity, Kaeya still remained unphased and unbothered, using the questions seemingly without a care. Dainsleif wasn't sure what to expect for the last question, but if they prompted him with extra information, perhaps there would be less to expand on.
❝ I do have my reasons. As one with the knights, you must've noticed the lack of Abyss creatures around the area, correct? I believe.. the Order has something to do with it. ❞
Dainsleif took a quick breath before continuing.
❝ The Herald is a twisted being that commands the typical mages, so I imagine discovering the root of the cause would clear up some more details. I just had to make sure this area truly was clear first. Now that I've gotten that over with, I'll be heading off to the Temple of the Falcon, as that is the targeted location. ❞
Hook, line, and sinker were all set out to play. Now it was only a matter of seeing if the cunning captain would be willing to take the obvious bait. The benefits were clear as well, after all.
❝ And for your final question? ❞

A rather simple starting question, at least to the unassuming listener. However, Dainsleif had said he would answer without leaving too much out, and he had only ever broken his word once in his long, dreary days in this world. Dainsleif tapped a finger against the table as they answered.
❝ ..As I mentioned earlier, I've been tracking something. For whatever reason, that trail led me to this location. Mondstadt. ❞
Dainsleif put emphasis on the name of the city, not sounding particularly happy about it, but not showing any contempt on their face either.
❝ I assume you've heard of the Abyss Order? A being from that particular organization has passed through this area. It's known as an Abyss Herald. ❞
They paused after revealing that bit of information. While Kaeya was not the one they expected to meet during their stay in this city, he could work with this. Kaeya wasn't part of the Adventurer's Guild, so assisting him with Abyss related commissions was probably not an option, but from what he knew, the captain had other weak points. A keen eye, an admirable trait of curiousity about anything unusual, but most importantly; a tendency to act on its own. It wouldn't be particularly easy to convince the other man to join him on his quest, but if he teased enough information, Kaeya might just be compelled to learn a bit more.

❝ The past can come back though, seemingly at the most unexpected times... ❞
He spoke rather softly as he pointedly made eye contact, a much different tone than his earlier controlled voice. The cryptic nature of their message would be easy to misinterpret, and they knew that fully, but it still felt like something they needed to voice. It really was an unforeseen occurence. Whether this was a miracle or a rebel against fate itself, however... they would have to wait just a little longer to find out.
❝ My mask? It's part of a uniform, of sorts. ❞
That would have to be enough explanation, he supposed. While they weren't.. lying persay, Dainsleif didn't really think detail was what they needed right now. And while he did want to ask about Kaeya's own eye accessory, he felt like he had already gone a tad bit too far. While it was.. more than a little peculiar how unbothered Kaeya was acting, there was something underneath the surface of that smug smile, and Dainsleif honestly didn't feel like it was their place to prod, as much as their curiousity said otherwise.
❝ Alright. I've already proven that I know plenty. I have an offer; three questions from you, and I'll answer in full, excruciating detail. ❞
Even Dainsleif, as unwilling as he was to share just yet, owed him that much. Besides, if they were to get any closer to meeting their goal of convincing Kaeya, they would have to build some sort of connection. It might've been out of place for a lowly knight, even one with an undeserved title such as his, to even dream about speaking to anyone of status back who knows when, but the people of Khaenri'ah never did dream. Perhaps this whole development was just trying to entice the old Dainsleif to awaken from his slumber, and take destiny into his hands once more. Not to fix, but to forge anew.

Dainsleif didn't falter. This was an expected reaction, as it was clear the one they were talking to was no fool. And considering everything, did they really know all that much? The information they did have wouldn't mean anything to this man, not if he didn't realize it yet. He wouldn't lie; Kaeya had done a decent job covering up the remnants of the past he didn't want anyone to see... but that still wasn't good enough. It wasn't the preferable choice, showing his entire hand at first glance, and it felt odd being the one with power in this particular duo, but if Dainsleif really wished for anything this selfish.. he first needed to gain the man's respect, if not trust.
❝ ..The bartender was once considered your brother. I can't help but wonder if you regret the moment that changed. Different views can never really be explained, no matter how close you believe your bonds are. ❞
This had absolutely nothing to do with the things he truly, desperately wished to discuss, but he needed to let Kaeya learn on his own. If they acted too abruptly, the moment they had been waiting for the past.. who knows how many years might be lost. And Dainsleif couldn't let that last bit of determination go to waste. However, information is a business with a lot of give and take. It didn't seem fair to pry into anyone's past skeletons without giving something in return. And Kaeya was focused on getting something out of Dainsleif anyways...
...They may as well oblige.
❝ ..And it's Dainsleif, if you were wondering. It's true that I'm not from around.. here, at all. ❞

The other had answered with the correct words, but not the correct tone. Dainsleif continued to mull over the situation in their mind. Was he really correct in his instincts? Or was it simply Dainsleif giving into wishful thinking, after all but giving up during his time? They thought they had gotten over the days of seeing ghosts from the past everywhere they turned, but alas, here that old habit was again to haunt them. At the same time, that eye.. even he couldn't imagine this feeling up. Dainsleif continued gazing at Kaeya's face, thoughtful.
❝ ..I know all that I need to know, Calvalry Captain Kaeya. ❞
It was a weak hint, they admitted, but this Kaeya had been surprisingly difficult to get deeper information on. All the factual information was there, but known motives... were significantly lacking. Not to mention, what else was he supposed to say? If he were just assuming things, it wouldn't do at all to simply start yammering on. It wouldn't do at all if the one he was.. truly searching for (..despite the odds) didn't realize on their own either. So, that would have to do for an introduction. However.. it seemed they had forgotten an introduction requires the input of two people.

Dainsleif blinked, not expecting the other man to take so much action. With Kaeya on the table, there was nowhere for Dainsleif to turn without making it too obvious they were trying to avoid his gaze. They finally looked into Kaeya's one visible eye, staring intensely as he replied.
❝..I had business to attend to. A trail of sorts, that I was tracking. And I get the notion you know a bit more about my so called secrets than you're letting on.. unless that's only the situation for me. ❞
Dainsleif's voice grew into a mutter, but it didn't seem to be out of lack of willingness to speak. Considering how closed off they were acting earlier, this behaviour seemed somewhat.. odd. It was like he was searching for something, as he studied Kaeya's expression closely, ignoring any growing tension, like he was waiting for some specific response.

Dainsleif paid no mind to Kaeya at first, instead picking up the mug on the table and taking a sip. For all his earlier awkwardness, he certainly made up for it in his skill for ignoring others. After a brief moment of silence, he decided to respond, still noticeably avoiding any eye contact.
❝ Hmph. Interesting that you should say that. You certainly don't seem to have an average appearance yourself. ❞
His tone was cold, but not exactly unwelcoming. His facial expression remained neutral, not giving any hint as to what he meant by that statement. Above all else however, the stranger continued to focus his gaze on his drink.

Dainsleif made no reaction to the movement behind him, well aware someone was approaching. From his position, he wasn't able to fully see the captain, but he still stayed oddly quiet. He was well aware of his.. uniqueness, but he didn't see why this one person had to be the only one to approach thus far. Dainsleif had a reason in mind for coming here, and making small talk seemed like a pointless distraction. There was only one person here who he needed to speak to.
But when Kaeya got closer, what was visible of Dainsleif's eyes glinted in something unrecognizable. He quickly flitted his gaze toward the ground once he realized he was staring, like some sort of.. flustered schoolgirl. Although he managed to somewhat keep his mysterious persona up in the process, internally Dainsleif was monologuing in doubt. This was.. an entirely unexpected development, and he wouldn't want to ruin it.

.responses may be slow, please be respectful and patient. if youre not a main mutual and you remind me twice within one hour, the roleplay will be dropped.
.replies dont have to match length, as mun is adaptive, but give me something to work with. if youd like to drop an interaction please let me know, rather than one linering or ghosting the roleplay.
.no nsfw means no nsfw, mod is a minor. romance limited to kissing and hand holding may be attempted, but the mun is not skilled in romantic rp and makes no promises.
.on that note, shipping rp is ask first. naturally, any problematic ships will be denied. and since mod, once again, is terrible with romantic rp, it's unlikely he will be multishipping unless it's crack rp.
.ocs, au, and multimuse blogs are more than welcome to interact!! mun would just prefer that you have info somewhere on your blog, for convenience's sake.
.mod does have one and a half years of general roleplaying experience, but this is one of xyr first proper tumblr roleplay blogs. please be patient if mys cannot respond properly. also, this sideblog is mainly mobile based, site users might have some formatting issues.
.and mostly, remember that this is all for fun!! dont be scared to reach out or interact.

greetings, i'm fae. however, i also go by sorin or aviram. im a minor, pronouns he/they + neos, although i dont really mind most ways of referring to me. as previously mentioned, i really have no formal tumblr roleplaying experience, so please don't get upset if i do anything incorrectly, polite corrections are much appreciated!! as you may have guessed, i also run ragnvindrrr. anyways, i hope you enjoy my attempts to write dainsleif, heh. this is all for fun after all :]
