“And then one student said that happiness is what happens when you go to bed on the hottest night of the summer, a night so hot you can’t even wear a tee-shirt and you sleep on top of the sheets instead of under them, although try to sleep is probably more accurate. And then at some point late, late, late at night, say just a bit before dawn, the heat finally breaks and the night turns into cool and when you briefly wake up, you notice that you’re almost chilly, and in your groggy, half-consciousness, you reach over and pull the sheet around you and just that flimsy sheet makes it warm enough and you drift back off into a deep sleep. And it’s that reaching, that gesture, that reflex we have to pull what’s warm–whether it’s something or someone–toward us, that feeling we get when we do that, that feeling of being safe in the world and ready for sleep, that’s happiness.”
— Paul Schmidtberger, from Design Flaws of the Human Condition (Broadway Books, 2007)

“How swiftly the strained honey of afternoon light flows into darkness and the closed bud shrugs off its special mystery in order to break into blossom: as if what exists, exists so that it can be lost and become precious”

The ocean travelled so far to deliver tiny kisses and I treated it like this . . . . It rained today and I barely noticed it. I felt it coming at first, when the afternoon breeze started feeling like feathers running over my skin. But, then I sort of lost the track of it. I had to shut the windows of course, the rain was invading my room and I didn't wanna sleep on a misty bed later. The evening could be better. If only I hadn't closed the windows, I would have had a better memory of today. How often it is that we take our lives for granted! Even though I very well know that the oblivion is inevitable, I just don't care enough to put that extra effort to leave my bed and see the mesmerizing sunrise or leave the desk to witness that exquisite sunset. And what's the point anyway?? The Sun's gonna rise and set & rise again and gonna repeat the same for perhaps Forever. But, isn't that the whole point? That I'm not here Forever ..or, at least not for as long as the Sun's gonna do that play. #drunkthoughts & #insomniacpen #thelifesavingcombo https://www.instagram.com/p/CdJqSPareNt5ouk1DjH6uPBCKqvDYbd7iV-CJI0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I long to stay too.. ✍🏽
. . . Taking a sip of his tea, he offers the other cup to me. I wrap my fingers around it and try to soak in all the warmth. “Another day without the sun”, he remarks, resting his arms on the railing. I find his eyes lost in the clouds and I know that this image of him will now stay in my heart forever. He turns to my side and moves closer. His eyes are heavy with all the sadness of the world. He leans toward me until his lips find mine, flooding with the only resounding emotion of ‘a little longer’. “Tell me what it is on earth that I can do to make you stay. Please, just tell me and I would do it”, his voice is turning frail and he says it almost like a whisper, “I want you to stay.”

Subtle bliss . . . . . The silence is shifting the comfort of her and she wants to break it. But, small talk doesn't come so easily for her. He looks lost though, or weary from the long drive perhaps, she can't fathom. Lounging under the shade of the hut, he breathes calmly as the afternoon breeze brushes his forehead. His eyes are slowly starting to sparkle with a smile. He marvels at the serenity of this moment and for an instance, without any hesitation, he just expresses his desire to spend the rest of his life in a place like this. She smiles back and suppresses her disbelief on how much he has spoken of her heart. #weekendscribbles 🖋️ https://www.instagram.com/p/CS4dy1QBEaRLGe5jz4i1HcEfPpklAInSk_NAHA0/?utm_medium=tumblr

here is your gentle reminder that there are dandelions growing through cracks in the sidewalk. there is a fence lizard on the porch who is growing a new tail. there are trees growing through an abandoned house, branches tearing through the ceiling, ferns carpeting the floor. there is life pushing forward, pushing through.

For me, Tumblr is not about how many followers I have. It's a place where I post exactly how I feel and not care what people think about it. It's a place where I don't need to smile and pretend everything is ok.

you are not a machine. you are more like a garden. you need different things on different days. a little sun today, a little less water tomorrow. you have fallow and fruitful seasons. it is not a design flaw. it is wiser than perpetual sameness. what does your garden need today?

So, India is dying.
Look, I know a good number of you are from the US and things aren't amazing there either, but my country is literally on the brink of collapse. So I'd love it if we could talk about that for a minute.
If you can't do anything else, please just read and reblog.
A second COVID wave has taken out the healthcare system. There are no more hospital beds. There's an oxygen shortage. There's a critical vaccine shortage. The Central Government has thrown its hands up and is passing the baton to the State Governments to do what they can.
There are over 16 million covid cases. A record 330,000 new cases reported yesterday - comparable to the US at its peak. 187,000 dead as of today.
There is no plan.
Mass cremations are taking place. The cremation grounds are running day and night and they are short on wood. People are watching their loved ones die while waiting for a hospital bed, and then they're unable to give them the proper burial rights.
Tumblr media
Hospitals are overwhelmed. Patients are being confined, two to a bed. They're the lucky ones.
Tumblr media
We are on the verge of people dying in the streets.
This is the second-most populous country in the world. The largest democracy. A country that encapsulates over 15,000 years of recorded human history and has endured everything from famine to invasion to colonisation.
We might be at the end. This might be the thing that does us in.
People are dying.

More good news? Variants are popping up. A double mutation strain has shown up. It is resistant to current vaccines. This will not go away. This is the devastation they warned of when the anti-maskers were out protesting the minor inconvenience of covering their face in public.
My country is on the verge of an emergency state. Our government has failed us. This is as dire a situation as it ever could be.
Look. I don't do much with my life. I write fics, some of you have read them and that's pretty much it. I spend my days with my head in the clouds because that's where I like to be.
But two days ago, my grandmother tested positive, had to be taken to hospital and the ambulance caught fire.
She barely made it to the urgent care she needs.
So, here I am, using whatever meager platform I have to cobble this request together. Because I have to do something.
If you can, donate.
Or spread the word.
Help. Please.

Sometimes I dream about being a good mother and a good wife and it feels really close. But, the other times it feels like it would ruin my whole life. And it's not just a fear of commitment, that I'm incapable of caring or loving, because I can. It's just that, if I'm totally honest about myself, I think l'd rather die knowing that I was really good at something, that I had excelled in some way, than that I had just been in a nice, caring relationship.
