Aesthetic
When trying to sum up my aesthetic, I want to go with the title “Monumentous Isolation.” Through most of the works I found, I am really attached to the idea of using grandeur and magnificent scale to make one feel small and isolated. Not in a negative way, but more as a shift in perspective. Apart from that, I am also strongly atracted to contrasting lighting as well as sharp angles and geometry.

I enjoy when an image is able to visualize a feelingor a mood. This photo does a great job of making the viewer feel desolate and cold. The temperature is well reflected the mist effect as well as the reflection on the water makes it look frozen and windy. I debris in the both the foreground and far background gives a run down feeling.

This image has created a criss cross vertical movement through the image with the alternating blue and pink lights as well as the slanted wires and beams. The entire image, including the pink lights, seems to have a blue overtone that creates a somber mood.

This image has a strong focus using color. Not only do the colors create an ombre effect towards the center, but the image is the light actually decays towards the edges, lowering visibility on the outskirts. The images also looks like it has water stains as if its an actual camera and the lens is being rained on. This makes the image stylized and mysterious

I just found this really interesting to look at. It is somewhat an abstraction of human anatomy, but the offset shapes and items give a weird offbalance effect that keeps me looking at it.

I love the gritty city look, but I also found this gif really interesting from how all the people are just hologoram figures with no identifiable features, yet the girls in the images look like distinguishable humans. This image sets a typical cyperpunk trope of “low life in high tech society”

This took me a second to comprehend because I was trying to fill in the blanks, thinking the shapes were meant to be filled in with other letters to create a phrase. After a while of messing with it, I finally figured out it was spelling collaboration. An interesting portrayal of it, but is it bad design that it took me so long to figure it out?

The rapid movement creates a sort of horror or uncomfortable feeling that makes the viewer uneasy. This is effective for something that looks like some kind of hacktivist propoganda. I don’t know if that’s what it actually is, but it is the idea I associate with it.

Bioshock did a great job of embracing the aesthetic of 1960′s and propaganda of the time. The art style was original and unique, but it still widely respected the era it was set in with strong influences in art and architecture seen throughout its fictional city of Rapture.

This graphic is extremely clean and cut with sharp geometry which I really like, but I chose this because of the font. Minimalism is super attractive and I appreciate fonts and other graphics that get its point across with negative space.

I love the theme of hackers and cyber related things, and I think this image simply sums that up with little effort. Filled with blue light, it makes a strong connection to how hackers rooms are percieved. The picture is obviously, staged because the computer isn’t putting off that blue light, but the same mood gets put across. I also love the contrast between the repetitive movement in one part of the composition among a still image.

I found it interesting how the ficitonal group DEDSEC from Watch Dogs 2 has such a strong brand. All of their graphics are extremely strange and offputting, but they are cohesive and as soon as you see it, you know who it is. I think its interesting to see how much time a video game developer spent to create such a branding scheme.

I love surrealism. I don’t neccesarily understand the genre well enough to classify them, but I would consider this image to be it. There is a strange realness to it but at the same time the juxataposition creates a feeling of unease. I find this distrubance or feel of unease to be really interesting.

When breaking down this image, the top is really just the bottom image that has been flipped in both the x and y, and then scaled down. Looking at the composition as a whole, though, the image is more abstract and looks like patterns of waves. the whites and blues have a very calming effect.

I don’t necessarily find human anatomy interesting, but I love when it is used to create art. This image uses lines to make connections in the bodies and create a sort of revolving movement. It is also interestint to see which parts of the body the artist remove. The heads were both removed to be replaced with other interesting shapes, but why is only one arm missing from the man?

I thought the angle of this shot and the use of perspective very interesting. The way the font is distorted to look like its facing the same direction as the rest of the composition gives this image a strong sense of depth and distance.

This artist often mixes simple geometry with a natrual environment. What makes it special though is this geometry always has signficant ties to something in the real world. Is it the sun or is just a yellow circle? I love looking at it eaither way, and the way it emits light looks very warm and appealing.
