Pinball Wizard: Pot Pals. (Vance Hopper x Fem! Reader Chap. 5)
Edit: Not proof read, sorry this took a while to come out, I promise Ill be more consistent with updates in the future.
----------------------------
I shut the door with a sigh as I bid the last of my goodbyes to my friends, everything felt hazy from the night before, we stayed up all night, most of us high half the time. I was one of said people, it was worth it though, Julie and I got into a deep conversation with each other about UFO’s and proof that they exist.
I smiled at the memory, beginning to pull apart the fought and pick up pillows. It took around an hour to get all the mess cleaned up, I ended up finding three more spare joints that we didn’t use, I raised an eyebrow and stuffed them into my pocket for later.
I rubbed my eyes as I stumbled my way up the stairs for a shower. Locking the door behind me, I got undressed with no hesitation, not even waiting a few short seconds to get the water the right temperature before I practically threw myself in.
It felt like heaven to be under the water, my skin felt smooth and not icky like last night, the chlorine from the pool stuck to my skin like glue. I didn’t notice until the morning and I could practically feel it on my skin, not just in my pores.
I tilted my head up towards the shower head, opening my mouth and letting it fill up with water to sooth my dry and irritable mouth. I gargled it in the back of my throat before swallowing it in one big gulp.
I finished up my normal shower routine, moisturize, wash hair and shave whatever needs shaving. I stepped out and wiped the steam off the mirror with my hand, snatching my towel off the rack and drying myself off. I slipped on my robe and slippers as I wrapped my hair in a towel.
I don’t plan on doing much today, maybe I’ll go down to the grab and go for a tub of ice cream but that’s about it, I’m probably going to finish off my joints and slump on the couch all day, it was too hot to do anything today and I’m pretty much dead at the moment
I watched whatever was on TV until my hair was dry. I should probably get dressed to go get my ice cream before I get too lazy and don’t bother.
I got changed into whatever I saw first, not bothering to do anything with my hair I reached for my purse and left the house. Mom wasn’t home, she left in the morning to get some more pots for the weed plants and saplings we have stored in the attic.
I almost melted onto the pavement when I finally got down my driveway. God, I wish I could fly or something, or teleport, that would be so handy. I could just teleport my mom and I to the towns and countries we want to move to.
I groaned as I waited for a whole heap of cars to come past before crossing the road and headed towards the grab and go.
The store was bustling, and I hated it, my head was pounding and behind my eyes were throbbing. I breathed in through my nose as I grabbed a lighter from my pocket, I always carry one in case of emergencies.
I pulled one of the joints from my pocket and light the end, inhaling the smoke with greed. I don’t particularly care that I’m smoking pot in a store, if anyone has a problem they can fight me, I am not in the mood for peoples shit right now.
I spotted Vance and prayed he doesn’t notice me; I know we made an agreement, but I don’t have the energy to listen to him snap and grumble at me. I quickly pulled two tubs of choc-chip cookie dough and choc-mint ice cream’s out of the big doored freezers.
I was making my way to the cashier when I heard him call my name, I whipped around and put on a fake smile. “Oh hey, sorry I didn’t notice you over there.” I said, taking a few steps closer and bringing the joint to my lips again, struggling to hold two tubs of ice cream in my hand.
His eyes flickered down to my hands and his eyebrows furrowed more than I thought was humanly possible. “Are smoking pot inside a store?” He whisper-shouted at me, I nodded. “I don’t have the mental energy to not at the moment, I am so tired.” I explained, blinking intensely.
He shook his head and snatched it from my hands harshly, this time my brows furrowed. “Hey, give it back.” I grumbled, he smirked and puffed smoke in my face. I scrunched my nose and tuned my head to the side.
I groaned and rolled my eyes, my arms beginning to hurt due to the coldness of the ice cream. I turned around and headed towards the cashier, placing the tubs on the counter, and rubbing the skin they stuck too. Handing the money to the woman, I placed my items into a paper bag I decided to pay for.
I carried the bag in my hand as I strode towards Vance, snatching the almost finished joint from his lips and took a much-needed drag. I shoved some coins for pinball into his chest pocket and wandered out of the store.
I was just about to walk through the car park when someone grabbed my arm and spun me around. It startled me to say the least, but I relaxed when I saw it was Vance. I placed my free hand on my hip and looked up at him with an annoyed expression.
“I gave you your money, what?” I asked, making sure my tone was snappy. He rolled his eyes as his tongue darted out of his mouth to lick his chapped lips. “Do you have any more pot?” He asked in a mumbled and rushed manner, from what I’ve gathered, he doesn’t like making conversation or asking for things.
I nodded. “If you want a of the bag the shit it’s fifteen bucks for your first buy, after that it’s twenty. The joints are ten bucks for each pack and two bucks for a single one.” I explained, I know my mothers’ prices and stock off by heart.
She used to send me to deliver some stuff to her clients in the area, she stopped after I was sexually assaulted when selling it though.
Vance looked almost dumbfounded. “Are you a dealer?” I shook my head. “No, but my mom is though.” He raised his eyebrows in a shocked manner. “Seriously?” I nodded once again, wanting to either be done with the conversation or move to the shade to talk.
I stretched my neck and made a pained face. “Can we move to the shade? Its hot as fuck.” He didn’t say anything just stormed away and behind the store. I groaned and rolled my eyes, if I stay out here any longer my ice cream will be soup by the time, I get home.
I decided to follow him, maybe if I sell him some stuff, I can get my mom some extra money. I had just turned the corner when he viciously shoved a twenty dollar note in my face. It made me jump and sigh in annoyance.
“Be a big boy and use your words, I don’t read minds.” I said and pressed my back to the brick wall of the store. He clenched his jaw and shut his eyes tightly. “All I have is a twenty, I just want a few joints.” I plucked four from my jacket pocket and handed it to him, I still had two for myself, plus I can snatch a few more when I get home.
“Thanks.” He muttered as he rummaged through his pockets for a lighter. I shook my head with a small smile and handed him mine. He took it and breathed in for a few solid seconds, blowing some smoke rings as he breathed out.
I slumped down to the floor with my back still on the bricks, I opened the brown paper bag and pulled out one of the tubs of ice cream. I cursed under my breath when I realized I didn’t have a spoon.
“What?” He asked, seeing I was distressed. “I don’t have a spoon and by the time I get home my ice cream will be mush.” I pouted and held my hands up, opening and closing my palms, signaling for him to hand me the joint.
He did and I wasted no time in taking a puff. “Ill be back, wait here.” He said and walked off. I shrugged and continued enjoying the peace while smoking. My headache had reduced a little bit, and the throbbing behind my eyes stopped all together.
Vance came back around two minutes later with two spoons in hand. I looked at him confused when he handed me one. “Where did you get these?” I asked and opened the tub back up again. “You can ask for some spoons for if you want to stir your coffee when you order one.
I completely forgot about that. “Oh my god, I completely forgot about that, thanks.” I said, my mood mildly improving. He only nodded and slumped down with me, snatching back his joint form my lips. I stuck my spoon into the choc-chip cookie dough ice cream and shoveled it into my mouth, if I’m being honest, it was still a lot more frozen that what I was expecting.
Vance reached over me and pulled out a spoonful as well, just as he did so, his hair almost fell into the tub. I laughed and gently pushed his shoulder away.
His face contorted into an offended one. “You almost got your hair in my ice cream, tie it up.” I grind. He scowled at me. “Does it look like I have a hair tie to you dip-shit.” He said angrily. I giggled and pulled one off my wrist.
“Turn around, ill tie it up for you.” I said, he did so but grumbled and complained that I was pulling his hair too hard the whole time. I tied it up in a small bun, little baby strands of hair fell into his forehead and hung at the nape of his neck, I can’t deny that he looked even more attractive with his hair up. I had to stop myself from staring.“There, now you can have some.” I scooted myself, and the tub closer to him. He wasn’t paying attention; he was too busy pretty much groping the bun on top of his head. I smacked his hands away. “Stop touching it or it will fall out.” I scolded. He rolled his eyes and grumbled, taking a scoop of ice cream.
I had noticed some bruises and red marks on his knuckled, one of his fingers even had some scratches. I pointed my finger to them, tracing the skin carefully when he went in for another scoop. “How did you get them?” I asked and he looked at me like I was stupid.
“I know you got them fighting but who were you fighting any why? Give me a back story.” I crossed my legs and sat the tup on my knee.
“These asshats tried to jump me on the way to my car yesterday, I beat up their friend for talkin’ shit. That kid went to hospital, and I think he sent his stupid fucking friends to get back at me. Didn’t work though.” He gave a wicked laugh in the middle of his story. “Those fuckers were weak as shit, I barley hit em and they toppled over.” He spoke with pride and a wide smirk plastered on his lips.
I smiled. “Good on you, I’m guessing that was damage you did to yourself?” I tapped his hands with my fingertips, and he nodded. “Yeah, it doesn’t hurt though so don’t give me your fucking pity or some shit like that.” I chuckled and shook my head as I traced a flower onto the back of his hand.
“I wasn’t planning on it.” “Good.” He said and yanked his hand away, picking up his spoon from his lap and digging up a heap more of ice cream. “Okay that’s the last bit, I’m sharing the rest with my mom when I get home.” He groaned and threw his spoon somewhere into the distance.
I pulled one of my second joints from my pocket and light the end, I breathed in deeply with my eyes closed, feeling my head spin for a few seconds until I reoriented myself. I offered it to Vance who took it without hesitation, he lowered the joint from his lips and swished the smoke around in his mouth like how you would water, then blew a smoke ring into my face.
I smiled and poked my finger through the ring, it broke and evaporated once it my skin. I took my joint back and inhaled, opening my mouth and watching the smoke bubble out, I quickly sucked it back in and puffed it out like I normally would.
We continued to swap out joints back and forth until they were all gone, by now we were both really smiley and giggly. Talking about the stupid stuff we have done in the past, Vance was telling me about how him and some of his friends egged a cop’s house because he arrested Vance just for jaywalking. I agreed that was a deserved punishment.
By now the hot mid-day sun was gone, now the afternoon breeze was beginning to pick up. It wafted the heavy smell of pot around us. We had just calmed down from laughing our guts out, we were making fun of our science teacher, saying how he looks like a gnome and that his mom probably still picks his clothes out for him.
“Oh my fucking god.” I breathed, my hand on my chest to try and calm myself while wiping a tear from my eye. “Do you think he still lives with his mom; can you imagine that?” I asked with a giggle, Vance nodded. “Probably, what’s the bet his siblings live there with him?” I cracked up laughing again, my ribs aching from laughing to hard I practically wheezed with my eyes closed and the back of my head resting against the wall behind me.
Vance passed me back the last joint and I slowed my breathing to take a puff, so I didn’t choke. I finished the last of it off and began to stand up, my knees feeling weak from being in the same position for so long, I almost toppled over.
Vance grabbed my shoulder as I tilted and wobbled, I kept laughing and trying to stand up straight. “Thanks pot pal.” He gave me a strange look. “Pot pal, cause ya know, we just smoked pot together for like-“ He cut me off with a small smile on his face and a knowing tone in his voice. “Yeah, I get it, it’s just stupid.”
I gasped and placed a hand on my chest dramatically. “How dare you say such a thing, I’ll have you know that I am a genius when it comes to names!” I shouted with as much flamboyance as I could muster.
“Come on you idiot, I’ll walk you home, if I don’t, you’ll probably be run over or some shit.” I scoffed but agreed. He carried my bag of ice cream for me, only because I’ll probably end up flinging it around and lose it or something.
I showed him the way to my house, I was rambling about something random and while walking, he had to keep grabbing my shoulders and steering me back onto the pathway or away from the road, I didn’t particularly notice and continued my story.
He would often ask which way and I would point instead of using my words, to invested to stop talking for even a moment. Just as he grabbed me shoulders to steer me somewhere else, I leaned my head back to look at him.
He looked down at me with a relaxed face, something I haven’t seen before, he looked so pretty, his eyes are a gorgeous shade of blue, they’re like icy crystals or glaciers. And his nose is so perfectly sculptured while his lips are so pink and plump, the way his tongue darts out of his mouth to lick his lips drives me insane and how his hair is so wild and untamed like him.
Speaking of his hair, I reached up to grab at the soft bun at the top of his head, giggling childishly at how soft and fluffy it is. I feels like heaven tickling my skin when I touch it and soon enough, I’m completely fixated on it, curling my fingers around the little baby strands and watching them bounce when I let go.
Sadly, my happiness didn’t last long, he violently shook his head, making me pull my hands away. “Don’t touch.” He warned, briefly looking up at the path to make sure we were going the right way. I pouted. “Whyy, it’s so soft and fun to play with, I love playing with people’s hair.” My voice was whiney, but I didn’t care, it was true.
“I don’t care, now deal with it.” I grumbled and looked back up at the path, pointing to the left and at a wide, metal fence. That’s the start of my house. “This is it.” I said, his eyes widened just a tad as he let go of my shoulders. The skin where his hands had been were as hot a fire and tingled, it gave me goosebumps all over my arms.
“Do you want to come in?” I asked, rubbing the goosebumps away before he notices. He shook his head. “Okay, are you going to be alright walking home by yourself? I could get my mom to drop you home.” I offered, he scrunched his nose, and it sent butterfly’s erupting through my stomach.
“I’ll be fine, I don’t need you or your fucking mom to walk or drop me home like a little fucking baby.” I put my hands up in surrender. “Okay, it was just an offer.” I said smiling. “Yeah, I don’t need it, now get inside. I’ll see you later.” He mumbled the last part, but I still heard it, it made me smile. He shoved my bag of ice cream into my chest and shoed me towards my gate.
“Yeah, okay, see ya.” I waved, opening the gate, and closing it as he began walking off. Throughout the entire walk up my driveway I couldn’t stop smiling. It became clear to me that I may have a tiny, itty-bitty crush on him. I prayed it was only a short-term thing because I don’t think Vance has ever felt that way about someone, he is always caught up in either pinball or his emotions, which is clear by the way he treats everyone.
I made it inside with my bag, immediately bee-lining straight to the freezer to put them away. My mom made her way down the steps and into the kitchen to see me doing some odd dance, I didn’t notice her presence until she cleared her throat, clearly amused.
I froze, looking up to meet her eyes, I gave a wide smile and continued dancing. “What’s got my little monkey dancing like it’s the best day of her life?” My mother crossed her arms with a happy smirk on her face.
“Okay, okay, so… I went to the grab and go to get ice cream, nothing unusual, but I have this deal with this boy who really likes getting into fights for no reason. I give him money for pinball, which he is absolutely obsessed with and he keeps me off his hit-list pretty much, his name is Vance and I was at the grab and go and I gave him some money but he caught me smoking pot, so he ended up bringing me around the back of the store and he paid for some and we sat down and smoked pot while eating ice cream together and making fun of our science teacher and then he walked me home and I played with his hair and I really, really like him!” I shouted, taking a deep, dramatic breath when I finished talking.
My mom didn’t say anything just kissed my head and brought me over to the couch, we sat down and ended up watching shows together while I laid my head in her lap while she played with my hair.
Hopefully something like that will happen again, maybe even next time I see him.

Pinball Wizard: Unexpected Encounter (Vance Hopper x Fem! Reader Chap. 4)
Edit- This is kind of rushed, I promise things will get good next Chapter, I'm planning a whole chapter with just you and Vance <3.
-----------------------------
The next few hours consisted of me rushing around the house, tiding things, and prepping for visitors, my mom was having a nap after being out at her client's house. She is a drug dealer, but sometimes I suspect that she is a prostitute, I mean why else would she have to go to their houses, why can't they come here?
I don't mind, as long as she doesn't get any STD's or anything then I don't really care, my mom knows how much I love my privacy, so I give her hers, it's a mutual understanding. Anyway, as long as she's making money that I get to spend, why should I complain?
I sighed as I looked to the clock, it was five fifty-six, everyone should be here soon. I had the blanket fought done, bowls of snacks and a few joins I had made a few days before all set up. I figured we could all smoke a few together, just enough to get us all giggly and chatty.
Mom doesn't mind that I smoke her stuff, she just tells me to give her a call if I'm gunna get high out of the house, that way if I'm in any trouble, she knows where I am. Also, if I'm going out with people, always make sure there is at least one person I can trust if I go a bit overboard and need a ride home or something. Those were her only rules, which I think is fair, it's not unreasonable and I'm still getting high in the end.
My head snapped towards the door as I heard the sound of my doorbell echo throughout the house. A wave of butterflies flapped around in my stomach as I made my way over to the door, I hope everything is set up fine.
I took a deep breath and swung the door open, meeting eyes with Rachel. "Hey girl, come in. Make yourself at home!" The girl grinned at me as she walked in, her bag in one hand and her pillow tucked snuggly under her opposite arm.
"Wow, your house is so nice! I actually wasn't sure of this was the right house, so I was kinda nervous, the agonizingly long walk up the driveway didn't help." She laughed; I ran my fingers through my hair nervously. "Yeah, sorry, it's such a pain to walk up every afternoon. I think I'm gunna ask mom for a car soon." I laughed with her.
I showed her to my room, not worrying too much about the amount of noise we were making, mom usually sleeps with earbuds in and an eye mask on anyway. She placed her bag down on my bed and I gave her a small tour of the house. She said she was eager for a swim, just didn't bring swimmers, I said she could borrow a pair of mine if she wanted.
That was one thing I didn't account for, the pool. Throughout the three weeks I've been here, I haven't used my pool even once. That's probably why I forgot about it, we even have a jacuzzi and I didn't bother thinking about the fact that others might want to use it.
I brought her back to the lounge room and we continued to talk about anything and everything that came to mind. After we both came down from a miniature laughing fit, I decided I should ask her if she was comfortable with smoking weed.
"Hey... So, I snagged few cigarettes, well not cigarettes." I got caught up in my own sentence and just ended up showing her the few I stashed under my pillow inside the fought. "I snagged some joints, are you gunna have any?" I finally managed to ask, she snatched one off me and inspected it carefully with a shocked face.
"Fuck yeah, is that even a question? I've always wanted to smoke weed, but what about your mother?" She asked cautiously, I waved a hand in front of her face in a carefree manner. "My mom's my supplier." I gave a cheeky grin and the girls jaw fell open wide. "Yeah, I was kind of hesitant to tell anyone at first, a lot of the people that have found out in the last towns I've been in haven't taken the information so well." I shrugged my shoulders.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. But everyone in Denver is super chill and actually encourages it, perks of being a shithole town, everyone is a shitty person with shitty habits and addictions." Rachel explained and a smug look on her face. "Good to know." I laughed briefly, until I heard the doorbell ring out once again.
"I'll be right back." I said, getting up with a grunt and wandering over to the door. I opened it to find Julie, she had a large smile on her face as I opened the door wider for her to come in. I welcomed her just the same as I did to Rachel, I showed her around and offered her a pair of my swimmers if she wanted to go for a dip in the pool or relax in the jacuzzi.
----
After everyone had arrived, we decided to go for a dip in the pool to start things off. I handed all the girls a pair of swimmers that I think would fit best, I made sure everyone was fine with the types and colors I was giving them. I know some people don't like bikini sets and certain colors and patterns, I'm the same, I am very specific about styles and colors of clothes.
We all snatched a towel each before padding out onto the patio, the hot air stuck to our skin as it had still lingered from the hot day beforehand. We all dipped our feet in, getting a feel of the water before we actually got in. The new sensation of the cool water at my feet, mixed with the hot, sticky air sent a shiver up my spine and goosebumps erupt over my legs and arms.
We all let out little squeals and laughs, Casey and I clung to each other, laughing with delight. "Ok, ok, it's not even that bad, let's get in together. Three, two, one!" I breathed in through my nose and exhaled as I counted down.
Casey and I jumped in at the same time, out hands locked together. We resurfaced, our hair all slicked back and let out a loud laugh. We were the first ones in, so we took it upon ourselves to help the others get acquainted with the refreshing sensation by splashing them as much as we could. I even grabbed Rachels leg and dragged her in, she squealed and thrashed but it was too late, I already had her tumbling into the water.
It was getting kind of dark our, the sun had just set, so I decided it would be a good idea to turn the pool and patio lights on. I got out momentarily and flicked a switch by the glass doors, the once dark spots in corners or shadows disappearing as everything was flooded with light.
I grind as I turned back towards the rest of the girls, getting a running start as I bomb dived in, splashing everyone in the process. This started the trend of showing off our best dives to one another. We performed our toughest dive while the other watched from a small distance.
After that, we all laughed and splashed together, enjoying each other's company until we all grew tired and laid on our back with our arms and legs spread wide like a starfish, floating peacefully.
I sighed just before I sunk underwater, watching the bubbles skyrocket to the surface when I opened my mouth. I swam along the bottom of the pool, thinking and enjoying the comfortable silence all of us created.
I kicked my legs as I resurfaced, breathing in and out, running my palms along my hair, slicking it all back until it was smooth again. I was about to sink back underwater when I felt my stomach grumble. This gave me the perfect idea for food.
"Hey, is anyone else hungry?" I asked, gently breaking the silence. Everyone nodded and started discussing what we should eat, I told them they don't have to worry about the budget, and to go nuts.
My mom won't mind, she never does, as long as I'm happy, safe and fulfilled is all she wants. After some more talking, we all decided to go to a diner, it's easy to access and has food everyone enjoys.
We all snatched our towels and dried off, shivering and huddling away from the cold breeze. The air has also freshened up, instead of being hot and sticky, it was cool and crisp, making the breeze much worse than it already is.
My teeth chattered gently as I quickly padded my way towards the big glass doors, following Julie closely from behind. We made it in and relaxed just a bit at the slightly warmer interior of the house.
"Everyone pass me your towels, I'll put them in the dryer for a little. We can take them out again if we want to go back in or maybe chill in the jacuzzi later on." I said after everyone was done drying themselves and their hair. I went around, taking towels off people and bringing them to the laundry room.
When I came back, almost everyone was finished changing. I quickly threw on some new clothes, just something comfy like a pair of high waisted jeans with saggy cuffs, paired with a lowcut blue midriff shirt that showed just a bit of cleavage, I pulled on a pair of high-tops and a black jumper to finish the look off.
My hair was still a little damp, the towel hadn't fully dried it, I didn't mind. It could dry in the wind, plus that just makes it curlier in the end, I hate it when my hair is straight, it's so boring and makes my head look long, which believe it or not, isn't so flattering on me.
Everyone was dressed into their own comfy clothes, looking as gorgeous as ever. We all headed downstairs, I snatched my mom's purse from the counter and took out her card, she won't mind. Were about to open the front door when I remembered something. "Oh, wait up guys. I'm just going to write my mom a note in case she wakes up and we're gone."
I stormed over to the small desk in the far corner of the room, rummaging around until I found a pen and paper. I scribbled the information on it and placed it atop the counter before jogging back to the girls.
----
We all linked arms and skipped down the quiet, deserted road at the start of my driveway. We laughed and tumbled into one another as if we were all drunk. If we're all clumsy now, I can't imagine us when we get high together.
I pushed the thought aside as Rachel started telling us some sort of story about this guy who gave her his number, I'm not too sure how the conversation started, but I was happily listening anyway.
We arrived at the diner just as Rachel finished up her story. The bell chimed loudly as we entered the cozy looking place, the air was heavy with the aroma of fries, coke and best of all, burgers. This diner is my favorite because they have a slushy machine in the corner, the flavors were minimized to coke and cherry, but it was better than the regular stuff, plus if you get a specific meal order, you get free refills. Another thing is their selection of burgers, they sell all kinds, they even take requests for which meat you want on them and how you want the meat cooked.
We managed to snatch a booth made for eight people, all squeezing together comfortably. We all grabbed at a menu and started gazing through it. I was looking through the loaded fry's selection when I felt an unfamiliar gaze on me, all the other girls had their head down, scanning through the food options.
I looked up and around the room, only for my eyes to meet a pair of bright blue, almost sparkling ones. I recognized them immediately, I looked to the pale face of Vance Hopper, shooting him a small smile as I turned back to my most important mission, deciding which food to get.
I noticed he was with some friends too, I hadn't seen him with others before, it didn't even occur to me that he had friends. Every time I saw him, he was by himself. If I'm being honest, before now I wouldn’t have put it past him if he said he didn’t have any friends at all.
I went back to my menu, deciding to go with the loaded chipotle bacon fry's and a cherry slushie. I waited for everyone else to make up their mind before calling a waiter over, she seemed worn out just looking at all of us.
I honestly feel kind of bad, but I want food and she signed up for this, so she’s gunna have to deal with it. We all gave her our orders; she scribbled them down as if she was being rushed and had to triple check that she got everyone’s orders right.
She brought out our slushy cups first, I was the first to get up and race to the machine. It made an odd whirring sound as it constantly kept the liquid moving. I grabbed my cup and placed it under the little nozzle, I was about to pull the handle to it down when someone came up beside me which caused me to jump a little and gasp.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry, you scared me, I-“ I cut myself off as I turned to the person, only to see Vance. I sighed a breath of relief. “Don’t scare me like that, I almost had a heart attack.” I exclaimed, beginning to fill my cup up.
“Don’t be such a baby, get over it.” He rolled his eyes and I smirked at him. “What are you smiling at?” He snapped, only causing me to smile more. “You dumbass, why are you so mean, hmm? What have I done to you recently to make you snap at me the way you do?” I asked smugly, fitting the lid to my cup on tightly.
He sighed and rolled his eyes, clenching his jaw for just a moment. “I don’t know, okay? People just… piss me off, is all.” He confessed gruffly, I nodded. “Trust me, I understand a lot more than you think.” I moved out of the way for him to use the machine, continuing to try and hold a conversation with this guy.
“Do you come here often?” I asked, slanting my hips and popping a straw from a pile next to me, into the thick liquid. He shrugged, his golden curls bobbing as he did so, it made me giggle. “What the hell are you laughing at?” He asked, giving me a mean side glance. “Your hair kind of reminds me of a jellyfish.” I commented, covering my mouth with my hand to try and contain my laughter.
He, for some reason, didn’t find my comment funny or amusing in the slightest. “Oh fuck off, your hair makes you look like a lame ass lion!” He resorted, only resulting in me laughing harder. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it as an insult, if anything I’m jealous of your hair. It’s so curly and long, I envy you.” I said, trying to cover my mistakes with kindness. He only scoffed, shaking his head at me as he reached for a straw, I handed him one to save him from reaching past me.
“Thanks, bye.” He mumbled so faintly I almost didn’t hear it. “You’re welcome, see ya.” I gave a small wave to which he only nodded his head at me, his eyebrows still knotted, and a tiny frown painted his lips. I gave one last smile as we both parted, going back to our friends.
They all looked at me as if I was the devil himself, I gave them a concerned look as I sat back down. "Why are you all looking at me like you've just spoken to the devil?" I asked, trying hard not to make the silence awkward.
"Because you were speaking to the person most people fear more than death, Pinball Vance Hopper." Julie said, her voice high pitched as she whisper-shouted at me, I scoffed. "You guys are so dramatic, he's not that bad when you actually talk to him." I said, crossing my arms over my chest. "My sister tried to ask him for a pencil, and he threatened to gouge her eyes out with it." Julie countered, still in disbelief. "He was probably just in a bad mood that day." I shrugged.
Julie sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose tightly. "The point is that he didn't yell, scream or threaten you. That's weird, how the hell weren't you scared, especially after that argument you guys got into together!?" I twisted the straw in my drink. "I cleared things up with him, if I ever see him at the grab and go, I give him pinball money and he keeps me off his hit-list." I sighed, getting kind of annoyed at their disbelief to what happened, he isn't a monster, people just treat him like one.
Julie's jaw hung low, she was about to come up with another excuse to make him sound like a horrible person, but I beat her to it. "Okay, he has his faults, and I can see why people fear him, but you do realize that he is a human too? Who is capable of human reactions and conversations?" I raised my eyebrow, slight sass in my voice, I didn't want to be rude, but they were being very over the top about this.
"Yeah, it's just no one's ever seen him do that before, this is a once in a blue moon type thing. Anyway, let me get this straight, you bribed him with pinball money and now he's what? Your best friend?" I rolled my eyes with a light smile. "Not in the slightest, he just likes pinball and I pretty much pay him to not kill me, which if you think about it, is almost for free. Now, no more about the subject, he is still rude and snappy, so don't get ahead of yourselves."
We began striking new conversations after that, giggling and chatting away until our food came. I don't like the fact that they made me out to be special because I had a conversation with a kid my age who knows how and likes to fight. It was just stupid and immature, I'm sure that if they went and tried making small talk, he would give the exact same answers to them as he did me.
We all left for home after that, our belly's almost full and content. We had to end out little outing my getting some ice-cream on the way back, the small parlor almost inviting us in, it was too tempting.
I got choc chip cookie dough, the best flavor, obviously. We all collectively shamed Brianna who got vanilla as her chosen favorite, she got all upset and defensive in the end, so we stopped and apologized, repaying her with a bite of each of ours.
My mom was finally awake when we got home, she had stacked up some scary movies she recommended next to the tv, we began watching the first one in tense silence, just waiting for a jump-scare.
I had completely forgotten about the previous events, and I was almost happy about it.

Pinball Wizard: People (Vance Hopper x Fem! Reader Chap. 3)
Hey guys, sorry this is a bit late, I just got on school holidays, and I just got back from a date with this guy I really like. (He has moved schools, so we have been trying to find a good time to hang out together for ages now, so this was really exciting.)
@Ianadelraystan (requested a tag, thanks so much love, it's really exciting to know people are actually looking forward to my upcoming chapters <3)
Edit: Not proof read, I was too lazy.
-------------------------------
Vance slung his bag down on the floor next to him, propped his feet up on the desk and rested his hands behind his head.
I felt Casey nudge me gently, I turned my head towards the girl, and her eyes twinkled with mischief. I could hear the teacher groan and turn around to lecture the boy. Vance seemed to know what was coming but didn't pay any mind to the teacher, just glanced out the window across the room.
"Mr Hopper, would you care to remove your feet from the desk, please?" The teacher stated, already looking fed up. Vance scoffed and raised his hand to the air, flipping the teacher off.
I almost let out a snort at such a bold and unexpected action, Casey was trying to hold in her laugher too but ended up making eye contact with me, which caused her to let out a loud laugh. The whole class turned to look at us, I couldn't help but laugh with her, we had now drawn the classes whole attention.
"Shut up." I elbowed her in the ribs as she covered her mouth with her hands, trying hard to cease her fit. I held my head down, laughing silently. The teacher coughed obnoxiously at the both of us. "Excuse me girls, care to explain what's so funny?"
I had to take deep breaths in order to keep myself from spiraling back into second laughing fit. "Um, well a lot of things, clowns, jokes, the sound of your voice." I listed sarcastically with an innocent look in my eye. Casey whacked my arm as she let out a loud cackle.
The teacher didn't say anything, just shook his head and turned back to the board. I felt a gaze on me and shifted my eyes to the blond boy sitting in front of me, just as he recognized that I caught him staring he furrowed his brows and swiftly looked away.
I smirked and shifted in my seat, waiting for Casey to come back down from her high.
----
The class continued with us laughing obnoxiously and Vance jabbing the occasional insult or mean comment at the teacher. I can safely say that my first class is probably going to be my favorite.
I was swapping my books from my locker when I heard the sound of yelling. I turned around to see Vance grip some poor kids collar and lift him into the air, I rushed over to Macey who was already at the scene.
"What's going on?" I asked, placing a hand on her shoulder to help peer over the rest of the crowd. "Some kid got pushed into pinball Vance Hopper, and now he's guuna pay." She explained, slightly tilting her head towards me.
"So now he's gunna bash the kid into a pulp?" I asked, my eyebrow raised at the immature scene in front of me. Macey nodded, she was acting as if this was normal, and it something didn't sit right with me about it.
I looked both ways down the hall for a teacher but there wasn't any sign of one. "How come no one is standing up for the kid?" I asked, my stomach churning as I watched the scene before me. "Because whoever picks a fight with Vance Hopper usually ends up in hospital." She said unfazed.
It was hard to watch some innocent kid having his head smashing into a wall and I really wanted to do something, but I also don't want to go to hospital and make a fool out of myself.
I sighed, contemplating my decisions, it made my chest hurt to imagine how the boy must be feeling, hearing his cries for mercy didn't help.
"Come visit me in hospital or possibly my death bed." I muttered quickly before pushing passed the rest of the crowd. I heard Macey call out to me and try and grab onto me, but I was already too far gone.
I stormed towards the two, clenching my fists as adrenaline pumped through my veins. "Hey!" I shouted aggressively; Vance stopped beating the kid momentarily as he glanced at me. I reached for Vance's shoulder, shoving him off the boy harshly. Vance stumbled and almost fell to the floor, his fists were clenched and covered with blood.
Before he could do anything, I ducked down to kneel on the floor, wedging my hands under the back of the boy's head and lifting him into a sitting position. The boy had tears pouring out of his eyes, but it was kind of hard to notice because it was mixed in with the blood.
"Tilt your head back for me." I said softly, the boy nervously glanced back to Vance who was staring at the both of us with steam coming out of his ears. "Don't worry about him, tilt your head back for me." I instructed gently. The boy did as I asked, I needed to stop the blood from pouring out of his nose.
I used my sleeve to try and dab the blood from under his nostrils, but it was pretty much useless. There was too much blood to get this kid fully cleaned up.
"Can you stand up?" I asked, he might have a concussion from the way his head was hitting the wall. He shrugged, his whimpers and cries made my stomach squirm. I held one of his hands as I helped him up.
A few other kids who must have been his friends came rushing over to me and slung their friends' arms over their shoulders as the helped him hobble to the nurse's office. Once they had him secure, I turned back to Vance who was breathing like a rabid dog with rage.
"Who the fuck do you think you are?" I spat bitterly as I slowly walked towards the boy. He has no right to treat others like that over such a small accident. He growled as he marched over to me, getting in my face. "Who the fuck do you think you are?" His teeth were clenched so hard it had to be hurting his jaw.
"I'm someone with a little humanity. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but you decided to bash that kid into a pulp for bumping into you, correct?" I asked, jabbing my pointer finger into his chest. He slapped my hand away, huffing and puffing wildly. He stayed silent for a moment, his eyes never leaving mine, glaring hard into my soul.
"You're lucky I don't hit girls." He knew he had nothing to excuse his behavior, so his only tactic was to change the subject. I scoffed, "Why, are you scared that they're better fighters than you? Or that they're too weak to fight back?" I tilted my head, getting closer to his face as I narrowed my eyes at him.
Once again, he stayed silent, finally, after a moment, he turned around and slammed his fist into the wall as hard as he could, grunting loudly as he did so. He spun back around to face me, ramming his shoulder into mine as he left, everyone who surrounded us parting to make room for him to leave.
I crossed my arms and shook my head as I watched him leave.
Everyone was silent after that, staring at me. I quickly got uncomfortable and yelled at them all to leave. "What is everyone looking at? Go away!" I flung my arms in the air and everyone quickly moved on.
----
The next few days I got even more attention from bystanders, people whispered as I walked by. Some people even avoided eye contact or kept their head low as they walked past me in the halls.
I kind of regret picking a fight with Vance, only because everyone looks at me as if they're scared or they're pointing me out to some of their friends.
The only reason I don't fully regret it, was because the sound of the boys screams and cries for mercy made my chest tighten and my stomach churn. I can't even begin to understand how Vance could do something like that to someone and then when I tell him to stop, go storming off like a toddler and act as if he wasn't in the wrong.
I guess I'll never understand, I've made a few friends in the last few days, so I've asked them and a few other about the boy. They all say the same thing, they tell me that he is bad news, or that he has always been the way he is.
He has always picked fights and had a bad temper. It makes me wonder how badly he must be hurting to constantly be angry enough to break people's bones. Maybe he's been doing it for so long, that it's just routine or the natural thing to do for him.
I was shaken from my thoughts when the bell rang for the end of school. I eagerly stuffed my books and pencil case in my bag and pretty much bee-lined straight for my locker. I had to duck and weave through people charging through the halls, it wasn't that hard, I've gotten pretty good at it.
I closed my locker with a slam, wanting nothing more than to be in my pajamas at home, binging some cheesy romance films we have on tape. Or I could watch some lame horror movie, they're always fun to laugh at and criticize. Either way I know I want to be home, in pajamas and watching something while eating popcorn.
Just as I was walking away, I heard a familiar group of people call my name. I whipped around, a tired smile on my face as I looked between the girls who were all marching towards me.
"Hey, we were wondering if you were free to have a sleepover this afternoon, considering it's Friday and all." Brianna asked. I thought for a moment, maybe binging a whole bunch of movies with other people could be fun, I just have to ask my mom.
"Yeah sure, we could have it at my house if you guys haven't picked a house already, I just have to ask my mom." The girls all smiled and nodded, looking between each other excitedly. "Sure, just give me a call and I'll pass the message along." Macey said with a toothy grin. I nodded, Macey and I had exchanged phone numbers with each other in English. Bidding my goodbye's, I sighed and sluggishly walking out of the school grounds.
I kicked a pebble as I was walking along the fence of the school when a loud engine noise came from behind me. I turned my head to see a blue ford mustang screeching down the road, heading straight passed me. I made sure to get a peek at the owner to find Vance, glaring daggers through my skull and a scowl on his face as he drove passed.
I scoffed and shook my head, not understanding the point of all that commotion in the slightest.
----
I continued home, humming a tune to a song as I walked. After what felt like an eternity of walking home in the hot Denver sun, I finally reached my room. Pulling out a pair of pink silk pajamas, I turned my record player on, finding the black disk with the right sort of tunes.
I stuffed my feet into my slippers and jumped my way downstairs, feeling a lot better now that I'm back home and in the air con. I turned on the stove and rummaged around for a popcorn packet.
When the popping had ceased, I took the pot off the heat, stirring around the little bits stuck at the bottom. I had just gone upstairs to bring my blanket downstairs when I heard the front door open, my mom calling out through the house.
"Hello my darling!" She hollered. "Hi mom." I called back, snatching my blanket off my bed and hauling it downstairs. "Oh, what movies do you plan on binging now?" She scoffed, I rolled my eyes and continued my way to the couch.
"It's a tie between cheesy romance or lame horror series." I explained, neatly piling my blanket next to some pillows.
"Ooo, that's a tough choice." She admitted, I nodded franticly. "I was thinking about it the whole way home, I just couldn't make up my mind." My mom tapper her chin thoughtfully. "I think some good horror would be nice, it's always fun to have a good scare."
I pulled a cautious face. "Maybe... Oh! I could binge a whole bunch of horror movies with friends, they wanted to come over anyway." My mother smiled. "Sure, do you have their phone numbers?" I nodded. "Good, give them a call and they can come over."
I grinned and threw myself into my mothers' arms. "Thank you." I beamed. My mother kissed my head just before I rushed upstairs to the phone in my room.
I dialed Macey’s number; she picked up within the first three rings which I wasn’t expecting. “Hello Macey speaking.” Her voice was flat, as if she was expecting someone like her parents or siblings.
“Hey girl, my mom said it’s fine for you guys to come over.” I explained, wrapping the cord around my fingers. “Oh hey, okay great. I’ll give the message to Brianna, and she’ll give it to someone else and it’ll go on like that.” Macey explained. “Oh okay, you guys can come over at around six, I should have everything set up for a movie marathon, it’s going to be great.” I said, trying not to sound as giddy as I was.
“Oh my gosh, that will be so much fun!” She squealed. “What movies are we watching?” “I was thinking some horror movies, and after that if everyone’s up to it, we can stay up and talk about random shit.” I bit my lip to stop myself from jumping up and down on the spot, I was just a little too excited for this.
“That is a must! And horror movies sound good to me, what’s your address?” I gave the girl my address and reminded her of the time everyone should get here. She said she would pass the message on, and I thanked her before we both hung up.
I had gathered around six blankets as well as two pillows for each of us. Hopefully that should make everyone comfortable, if not well then, they aren’t human because my couch looks like my dream land right now.
I stood back for a moment, trying to think of anything else we might need. I almost face palmed when the idea came to me, snacks. We need snacks, it was around three forty, so I still have heaps of time before the grab and go closes at six. I raced upstairs to get changed, pulling on some very short denim shorts and a tight tank top with a pair of white flats, I looked myself over in the mirror, I looked plain and kind of skimpy, but I wasn’t dressing to impress anyone, so I decided it would be fine.
“Mom, I’m heading to the grab and go for snacks, I’ll be back soon!” I called, peaking my head out from my room and towards my mom’s room. I heard my mom call out in approval, so I snatched some money from my purse and began my journey to the grab and go.
The walk was nice, much better now that I wasn’t in my jeans and converse. The breeze made the hairs on my arm prickle and goosebumps erupt over the exposed skin, the good thing about Denver, is that it has a cool, crisp breeze, even in the hottest time of the year.
Just like all the previous times I’ve walked to the grab and go, I was pretty much on auto piolet and daydreamed the whole time I’ve been. The store wasn’t as busy as I expected it to be for a Friday afternoon, maybe people come at specific times, either way it just means I have less people to worry about.
I entered the store and headed straight for the cady section, picking out a whole lot of MnM’s, around fifteen packets of pop rocks, some jellybeans, some ring pops, and a few others. I decided it would be best to get some soda too, we have some at home, but I figured a variety of cans would be better.
I walked out towards the big fridges of soda and almost immediately regretted it, just as I turned the corner I noticed Vance at his usual spot in the store, at the pinball machine. His eyes trailed me as I opened the big glass doors, I tried hard to pretend not to notice but my eyes eventually flickered to meet his, I sheepishly looked away.
I am sure he hates my guts now which is something I don’t want, I know he can easily fuck me up beyond repair, so maybe making friends with him or at least some middle ground will help to not have my teeth knocked in. I know he said he didn’t hit girls, but I know many boys who have said that but a few days later beat me senseless.
I sighed and picked out a few drinks, stuffing them into the bag I had brought with me. I sighed and picked out a few drinks, stuffing them into the bag I had brought with me. I gave a small smile as he looked towards me again, I slowly made my way over to him, leaning gently against the pinball machine.
“Hey.” I started, not meeting his eyes, instead focusing on the flashing lights in front of me as I looked down at the see-through plastic. “What?” He snapped, sliding a sliver coin into the slot. “I just wanted to say that I didn’t mean to make enemies the other day, I just wanted you to know that I only did what I did bec-“ I was cut off by his harsh voice. “Because you want to be a hero? You want to help the people that can’t help themselves? Is that it?” He spat; teeth clenched.
I scoffed and rolled my eyes. “Okay, if anyone knows anything about being beaten senseless for no damn good reason its me. So when you see someone being treated just the same as you were, it hurts, and you remember the pain of people watching but no one doing anything, it hurts more than any bruise or broken bone that I’ve had. The fact that people can see what’s going on and can stop it but don’t, leaves you falling in a deep pit of despair, knowing that you aren’t worth saving or standing up for. I’m not some wanna be hero, I’m sympathetic.” I explained firmly.
He went quiet for a moment and just looked at the pinball track in front of him. “I don’t want to make enemies, if you don’t want to be friends, that’s fine, but I don’t want to start some stupid war. And don’t expect me not to stand up for some other kid I catch you beating up, also, don’t pull that ‘I don’t hit girls shit,’ because the last time someone told me that, I ended up with a black eye and a scare across my rib cage.” I smirked, giving a gentle punch to his shoulder.
He lightly licked his lips and shook his head just hard enough to make his curly hair bounce on his shoulders. “Come on, I need some form of confirmation to know that I’m not next on your hit-list.” I said gently, not watching to push him to much in case he blows up or something.
“Fine, if you give me some money for pinball.” I threw his hands up and finally turned to look at me. I smirked. “Easy, give me one second, I’ll just go pay for my stuff, and I’ll give you the change.” He nodded at me hurriedly, wanting almost nothing more than to get back to him precious game.
I walked over to the cashier, pulling my bag onto the counter and unzipping it, pulling out all my items before showing my empty bag in case she thought I was stealing. She gave me around four dollars fifty in change, so I asked to get it in coins.
She gave me a strange look but agreed to my request, counting up the amount in little piles of silver coins. I thanked her, swiftly stuffing the goods into my bag once again and scooping the coins into my hands.
I walked back over to Vance who was tapping his foot impatiently, it made me chuckle. “My god, calm down. You’ll be able to return to your precious game in a minute!” I exclaimed, piling the cash onto the machine, scooping up the remaining coins that almost slipped off.
“Here, that’s four dollars fifty in coins. Is that enough?” I asked, stepping back and going quirt for a moment. He slapped his palms against the side of his legs and letting out a breath. “Yeah, that’s plenty.” He said vaguely. “Sorry, I figured the money would be better in coins because you can actually use them on the machine.” I pointed briefly to the slot.
He hummed, swiftly turning to me ever so slightly before turning back to the stack in front of us. “Thanks, that was smart.” He mumbled the last part so quickly I almost didn’t understand what he was saying. I turned to him and smiled. “So, this is our peace offering, I give you money and you don’t kill me when I see you killing some kid?” I smirked, he rolled his eyes, the tiniest smile on his pretty plump lips.
“Sure.” He shook his head again started scooping the money into the pockets of his denim jacket. I inhaled sharply. “Okay, well I better go, I have a sleepover to prepare. I’ll see you in science, or at the pinball machine again.”
He scoffed and bit the inside of his cheek briefly. “Yeah sure, whatever.” He cracked his neck and slotted another coin into its place in the machine.
I smiled, walking off in the direction of the exit and feeling satisfied at my achievements.

Pinball Wizard: New People (Vance Hopper x Fem! reader Chap. 2)
The next few days were just as good as I hoped, I originally wasn't planning on getting all the attention, but I can't help but smile as people stare at me from the sidewalk. I'll just be walking around or going to the mall and people around my age or younger have their eyes obnoxiously bulging out of their head at me. Some smile at me or to their friends and some look at me then to the ground anxiously, either way, I didn't expect a little fight like that could have that much effect on people.
It makes me wonder how school is going to be. Mom said I'll have a week to myself before I start attending, we moved here around four months into the second semester, so I'll have to catch up on what we are learning quickly. I probably won't though, I only really pay attention to what I want to pay attention to, my best subjects are English and science, I'm just thankful they're subjects I like and actually willing to learn. I'll pay attention to other things like geography and in some cooking classes I take, but it's only things we need to know for our exam.
Disregarding the thoughts of school from my mind, I pulled a pair of shoes from my closet. Mom's taking my on a shopping spree because I had said such a big closet looked kind of empty. I wasn't complaining, my mom always made it her mission to give me as much as she can before she realizes it's too late.
I snatched my purse and threw it into my little handbag as I rushed out of my room, mom was just touching up her makeup when I walked downstairs and passed the kitchen. We hopped in the car and began driving.
"So, did you make any new friends?" She started, looking over at me briefly. I shrugged. "I dunno know, I got into a fight with a few of these kids for picking on this kid and apparently it was a big deal, so now wherever I go, people always stare at me, some smile while other look away anxiously." I explained, looking at the groups of people go by.
My mom smirked. "What were they doing to the kid?" She asked. "They were shoving and grabbing at this little five-year-old and they were like twelve, the kid's mom wasn't around so I stepped in. I ended up scratching up my knuckles on one kids' teeth though." I showed her my knuckles and she pulled a face of pain just looking at it. "Ouch, are you okay?" She asked, I nodded. "Yeah, it doesn't hurt as bad as it looks." She nodded and ran her fingers over my scalp before we just drove in comfortable silence.
~~~~
We pulled into a parking spot at the front of the mall, stepping out and finding the shopping cart pile. I wandered through the doors as my mother trailed behind me, we walked through the stores I liked, picking out and trying on clothes. Not going to lie, for a shitty, ghost town in the middle of nowhere, they have some decent clothes.
We walked past some more stores until I saw a good-looking shoe place, it had a whole bunch of ranges from pumps to one million colors and types of converse. If I'm being honest, I don't want to stand out too much by being all flashy and fancy, so I'm trying to stick to more of the local's fashion sense.
I decided to take a look around in there when four girls around my age came and tapped on my shoulder. I spun my head around, looking at them slightly confused. "Can I help you?" I asked, my eyebrow raised as I looked between them all.
"Hey, we were just wondering, are you the chic who beat up the three rat boys at the grab and go the other day?" Some girls with curly brown hair asked. "Yeah, why?" I turned my full body to face them, not sure where this was going. "See, I told you." One mumbled to a girl beside her, nudging her elbow into the other one's ribs.
"Oh, we just wanted to say how cool that was of you. Those boys have been picking on pretty much whoever they can at our school, and overall, just being a pure menace to everyone. I'm pretty sure the whole school has heard about it and wants to thank you." I didn't know what to say, the whole school? That's a lot of people.
"Woah, the whole school? Jeez, I didn't know that many people had it out for em, sorry I beat them to it." I laughed. "Mhm, hey when are you coming to school anyway, assuming you're not homeschooled or anything?" I slotted my hands into my back pockets. "Um, the start of next week, I just had to register, and they have to get my file and add me into a whole bunch of classes which takes a while. Plus, I need to get my school stuff together." I explained.
The girls just nodded. "That makes sense, just so you know, you're defiantly going to be bombarded with questions from everyone. Do you have any friends here yet?" One of the girls at the back asked. I shook my head. "No, but hopefully I'll meet at least some decent people considering everyone supposedly wants to talk to me." I scoffed to myself, slightly hopeful that I make at least one friend in my stay here.
"Well, if you want to, you can hang out with us if you don't find anyone. I doubt it though, you're the talk of the school." I smiled. "Yeah absolutely, you guys seem great." I nodded to myself, not really sure what to say after that. The group just smiled. "Well, we'll let you continue whatever we were doing. Should I spread the word that you're coming next week?" I thought for a moment, it wouldn't be a horrible idea, that way everyone's not surprised and hopefully not stare at me as much.
"Yeah sure, I don't mind. See you guys later." I grinned at them as they left, giving a small wave as I watched them leave the store.
I let out the breath I was holding once they were out of sight, bringing my hands out from my pockets and trying hard not to think about how everyone in the school knows who I am.
I looked over to my mom who was pretending to look at shoes close by, but I already know she was eaves dropping. I rolled my eyes and waved her over, she had a teasing smile on her face and had to bite her lip to keep herself from saying anything.
After that small ordeal, we continued shopping for a few more hours before I decided I didn't want to be in huge crowds of people anymore, so we went home. Mom was going to make lunch for the both of us but realized she was missing a few ingredients.
Another thing about traveling everywhere, is that if I want a more foreign or exotic dish, she can most likely make it. We make it a habit to learn about other countries cultures which is usually really fun, just not when you have to eat a bunch of funky looking bugs like we had to do with the aboriginals in Australia.
"Don't worry about it, I'll just run down to the convenience store really quick." I offered, pulling my shoes back on. My mother caressed my cheek lovingly, kissing my forehead before nodding. She gave me a twenty dollar note and a bag, so I didn't have to pay for one at the store.
The walk to the grab and go was peaceful as always, I have already been there once and we drive passed it all the time, which means I can space out and think about whatever I want without fully thinking about where I'm going, I always find it nice.
----
I swung the door to the little store open, the bell ringing as I did so. The store had a few people my age throughout it, I could tell some of them knew or at least head of me by the way they would steal glances, a few people in particular kept looking at me when I was walking around, I just game a small smile and wave to which they returned.
I sighed and grabbed the items I needed and headed to the cash register, pulling out my money to pay. The lady gave me my change back which was just a heap of coins, I don't usually use coins so I figured I could use them on pretty much the only thing I could, the pinball machine.
I'm not the greatest at pinball but I'm not that competitive about it so I don't really mind. I slotted the coins in the thin hole and pressed the button to begin playing. The little lights flashed and the clinking noise it made scratched my brain nicely in an odd sense, my score was around eight before I died. I gave myself a mental pat on the back, I figured I did pretty good.
I was about to slot another coin in when I heard a loud, rough voice from behind me. "Oi, get the fuck away from my game!" I spun around to see a blond mass of curly, frizzy hair bounce its way over to me.
I quickly stepped out of the way, a confused look on my face. "Jeez, sorry, I didn't know you owned the game." I said, crossing my arms with my groceries still in hand. The boy snapped his head in my direction, fists clenched. "The fuck did you say to me little girl?" He spat through clenched teeth. I couldn't help but let out a small laugh at the almost vein popping out of his head, he must be pissed.
"Oh my god, you are genuinely mad about someone playing a communal pinball machine." I let out a laugh and he was about to say something, but I beat him to it. "Sorry." I said, calming down from my small high.
I held out a hand for him to shake. "I'm Y/n." He looked at my hand before rolling his eyes and looking to the flashing lights of the game. "Vance." He mumbled, quiet enough that I almost didn't hear it. I nodded, taking a few steps closer to see him play.
My eyes went wide, and I almost dropped my bag of groceries, he was already passed my score and up to two hundred, going on three hundred. "Holy shit, how have you gotten that many points already?" I flickered my eyes at him before snapping them back to the intense game in front of me. He shrugged, seeming fully uninterested in the conversation I was trying to make.
"Damn, do you do this shit as a sport of something?" I remarked. "Might as well." He muttered, I let out a small laugh. "What's your high score?" I asked as I rocked back and forth on my toes slightly. "Ten thousand." He said plainly, my jaw dropped, I have no idea how he didn't sound the least bit excited.
"Holy shit, that's amazing. I can't even get up to one hundred." I laughed weakly to which I saw a small smirk as he scoffed. "You're total dog shit at this." I rolled my eyes and nodded. "Hey, you're not wrong but don't rub it in." He shook his head, his bright blue eyes still locked onto the ball in front of him, his eyes trailing it like a hawk.
I gave one last chuckle before I decided I should head back home. "Alright, well, let me know if you beat your high score. Also here," I dug the left-over change from my pocket, placing it in a small pile on the edge of the machine. "I just wanted to get rid of them. Anyway, see ya round." He didn't say anything more, just continued on playing.
I don't know what I was expecting, but from the mildly confusing interaction there I was at the very least expecting a grunt or something as a thank you. Oh well, I guess not everyone can be raised right.
----
I plopped the groceries onto the kitchen counter before stumbling over to the couch, almost completely passing out. The heat was almost too hot to handle, the only thing that kept me from passing out while walking, was the crisp breeze that brushed my skin.
I closed my eyes for a while, my body becoming heavy. Soon enough I was asleep, the darkness too comfortable and alluring to wake up, it felt like I was being consumed and constructed by the inky void behind my eyelids. Small urges flashed through my mind. "You need to wake up, lunch will be ready soon." I heaved a breath and chose to ignore them.
That was until I heard the voices of people, there were heaps of them and they were so loud. I opened my eyes to find myself at my new school, everyone was talking and laughing loudly, their eyes trailing my every movement. I tried to look at anything but them, it made my skin crawl to make unwanted eye contact, there was nothing good about locking eyes with a complete stranger.
I walked through the halls until I spotted the group of girls, they welcomed me with open arms, we walked and chatted as we headed to class. That was until I heard the familiar sounds of the pinball machine, I turned around and I was back at the grab and go, Vance in the corner, doing his thing.
I looked around me, a little kid was being tossed to the floor, there was something familiar about her, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. It was only when someone said her name that it finally clicked. It was me, I'm that little girl being tossed to the floor, past bullies yelled and screamed slurs and insults at me, some kicked or punched me and other laughed.
Tears welled in my eyes as I watched the scene unfold, I tried to push them away from my past self, but my hands went straight through them, I couldn't do anything, I screamed begged them to stop but they couldn't hear me.
I turned around, hoping to find help in someone. My eyes landed on Vance, I screamed his name and he looked at me, he didn't have to say anything, I could already see in his eyes that he thought I was pathetic.
I looked away, too ashamed to face him again. I began storming over to the littler version of myself, screaming and crying on the floor. I tried to pick her up, tried to take her away from the horrible people of the world. I couldn't even touch her, I was a ghost, nothing I did or said mattered because no one could hear me.
I sobbed on the ground until I felt someone's hand on my shoulder, shaking me gently. I opened my eyes slowly, my mother's face appearing before my own. She had a soft smile on her face as she cupped my face gingerly.
"Come on honey, I just finished making lunch." I sat up, my head spinning and my hands clammy. I can already tell that dream didn't happen for no reason, I think it was me coming to terms with the fact that I am very afraid of people rejecting and ignoring me.
I let out an annoyed breath and stood up, sitting down at the table with my mom to eat lunch.
----
The next few days the nerves of going back to school had me tossing and turning when trying to go to sleep, it felt like it was impossible. I was scared of what people will think of me, their reactions if they find out my mom sells drugs and weather it will be like almost every other school I've been to.
I slotted all the stuff I plan on putting in my locker in a separate, small bag. Hopefully I don't get a locker next to anyone I don't like. I can tell you right now that, that never ends well for anyone.
I sprayed on some perfume before rushing out the door and into the passenger seat of my mom's car. I told her I only needed a lift this one time, I was just too nervous to be seen walking to school just yet, hopefully those girls keep their word about sitting with me if I wanted them too, that way I'll have at least a few people I know.
My mom kissed my cheek as I got out of the car, I wiped where she kissed with a groan. "Bye mom, love you." She smirked and said it back as she reversed out of the parking space and drove down the road.
I think I took around ten steps towards the front of the school before almost everyone's eyes were on me, some smiled and waved, some gossiped but some people completely ignored me. They were the people I like best; they don't get involved which is always nice.
I made my way through the doors and down towards the admin, it was pretty easy to find, I had taken a brief look around when I came to apply for this school, they said they wanted an interview, so we gave it to them.
"Hi, I'm the transfer student. Y/n L/n." I said to the lady at the front desk, she gave me a warm smile as she handed me a timetable, locker and combination sheet. "Thanks." I grinned, putting on my most polite voice.
I glanced between my sheet of paper and the row of lockers, trying to find my one. I eventually came across it and I had to hold the sheet of paper in between my teeth to do the combination. Finally, with minimal struggle, it was open. It looked the same as every other locker from every other school I've been to, I stacked my books on the small shelf in there, glancing at my timetable to know which class I had first and were.
I kept the specific book I needed out and, in my bag, while I organized the others. I was just closing my locker when I heard someone call my name, I spun around to see a familiar group of girls walking my way, rushing excitedly to meet me.
"Hey guys." I waved, closing my locker back up and slinging my bag over my shoulder. The girls all smiled welcomingly as they came into closer proximity. "Hey, um, I was thinking. The other day, I never actually got any of your guy's names."
"Oh, yeah. Well, I'm Rachel." The blond girl spoke up. "Macey." One waved. "Julie." "Brianna." "Casey." They all spoke their names and gave small gestures. "Ok, I should be able to remember all of them, hopefully but sorry in advance in case I don't." The girls shrugged it off, saying they didn't care all that much.
"So, what class do you have first?" Macey, I think her name was, spoke up. I took another look at my timetable just to make sure I answered right. "Science with Mr. Loui." It took me a few tries to get the teachers name right but I got it in the end.
The girls all cringed and I knew this class was going to be an even bigger bore. "Wow, way to excite me you guys." I said sarcastically. "Don't worry, I have him too. The class isn't as bad as it sounds." Casey said, tugging on my sleeve as she pretty much dragged me to class.
We walked in and I introduced myself to the teacher, he welcomed me like any other adult and told me to sit wherever I feel comfortable. "Hey, are you already sitting with someone?" I turned to Casey. She shook her head with a smile. "Nope, everyone in this class is either a complete dickhead or some weird nerd. Well, except this one guy, he sits in front of me and pretty much bullies the teacher all lesson, it's pretty entertaining."
I grinned as she showed me to her desk, I sat in the one closest to her. We were sat in the back row in the very right corner, it's pretty cozy, plus the classroom lights were off so it gave a relaxed feeling to it.
Everyone was sat and quiet until a mop of familiar blond curls stomp its way to the seat in front of us, he took one look at me, the scowl on his face never changing.
Pinball Wizard: First day (Vance Hopper x reader chap. 1)
Hey so I am writing a story on Wattpad about Vance but none of it's posted yet and I am to busy to be consistent/motivated so I hope by writing on two sites it will help me get some new chapters out. (Its the exact same story so don't feel like you have to go to both websites if you're actually interested in this.)
TW: Blood, fighting, drugs, swearing.
One last thing, I am changing the story up just a bit so it makes sense, plus I hate stories that are pretty much word for word following the plot of the movie/show. First thing, I am going to make Vance the first kid to be taken, and you arrive a month before the kidnappings even start. Another thing is that there is a rich and poor side of town, I cringe at the idea of you beautiful reader living in some trashy, rotting shack, I can't do that to you.
--------------------------------------------
Out of all the places in the world, we had to move to the deadest place in the country, Denver Colorado. My mom and I have been doing this for a while, her job is being a very well-known drug dealer, and because of this, we have to move states and sometimes even countries every few years or so.
She has been doing this from the moment I could fit in a car seat, and even though from the outside she may seem like a horrible mother, I couldn't ask for anyone more caring and loving as her. I am sixteen turning seventeen in a few months so once I'm old enough, I can choose to start living on my own or continue living a wonderous life of crime and drugs with my mom.
If I'm being honest, moving states and countries isn't that bad, I don't really get that close with anyone, one of the reasons is that my mother is a very famous drug dealer, and the second is that I don't really find anyone that will accept me for it. A lot of the kids at school end up finding out about it, which leaves me the reject or freak of the school. Over time I have build up a very aggressive or uninterested exterior to people, plus a lot of them don't mean anything to me, I'll be moving and hopefully never see these people again so what's the point of wasting my time with them?
I'm not mad about moving, if anything it's amazing to get to see all these new places, foods, and cultures. I'm mad about this one destination in particular, Denver Colorado, it's a small rural town where almost nothing ever happens. The reason nothing ever happens is because nothing is there to cause anything to happen, I mean, this place is a ghost town, there is a cinema, corner store and a few arcades around. Those are the most interesting places to go around here, and sure, it might be a little more fun with friends, but like I said before, a lot of people don't like me or want to get to know me.
I ran my fingers through my hair, massaging my scalp as I did so. I had been in the car for the last four hours and I really needed a walk or stretch or something. My mom doesn't want to stop the car because there is only fifteen minutes until we reach the town, but I am desperate to move, my legs are cramping and tingling, and my brain is screaming for some sort of relief.
I shifted in my seat, unconsciously heaving a sigh. "Y/n, would you sit still, we are almost there darling, I promise. Once we have reached our house, we will leave the moving people to do their job and we can go get some ice cream." My mother told me. I scoffed with a smile. "Mom, I'm not eight anymore, I can go get ice cream on my own." I resorted back, she playfully slapped my thigh and make a 'tsk' sound.
I smirked and turned up the radio, continuing to shuffle and shift throughout the rest of the drive.
----
We soon passed a small sign on the side of the road, it read; 'Welcome to Denver." With a small smiley face next to it. I looked away from the sign and to the trees that lined the side of the road, watching them fly passed while I daydreamed about anything and everything.
My thoughts escaped me once we went over a speed bump, and I was jerked back into reality. I turned to face the road and immediately saw little kids riding their bikes along the path and on the small grass patches. I didn't like kids all that much, they were always loud and gross, the last time I spoke to a little kid, it was a boy and a girl, they both came running up to me with snot hanging down their noses and ended up licking it. I almost threw up right then and there, now the memory is forever etched into my brain.
I pulled a disgusted face and turned to see some people laughing and walking into a little corner store, it must be pretty popular. The store had letters plastered along the top of the building, 'The Grab and Go.' I hummed to myself, watching with a sliver of envy as a group of girls my age walked in together, all laughing, smiling, and giggling to each other.
Everything seemed to be plain and dry here, it looked like it hadn't rained in moths. I like the rain, it gave everything a refreshing glow once it stopped, it created life and sustained us all. Plus, it always lulled me to sleep on long, back aching drives.
I continued staring out the window, watching people, cars and kids go by. All the houses on this side of town looked old and worn out, I'm so glad that we managed to snatch a nice big house, by the looks of it, the town had a poorer and richer side, our house was in the middle of both, it's basically the line that draws the two apart. I'm so thankful for it.
There are ups and downs to my mom being a famous drug dealer, one of the good things is that we are never short on money, we get bucket loads from desperate people looking for some of the best dope of their life. The downside is that at least three times a year, I have to bail or sneak my mom out of jail. Even then it's not that bad, pissing off the cops is one of my favorite pass times, mom doesn't always approve of it though, she says it gives the pigs an even bigger excuse to lock us both away.
We finally pulled up to a big house, the main exterior was made up of wood and cobblestone and it had a big, wooded archway that stood above the front doors. Sitting on the archway was a pointed roof that looked like something from one of those medieval castles, the glass windows had small wooden frames that made small panels and the biggest and longest roof had a small window that protruded from it ever so slightly, the house was perfect.
(Here is a photo I based it off for the people that don't understand my terrible describing skills)
Tumblr media
We had to drive up a long driveway, and when I mean long, it took around thirty seconds to drive up and into the car port. It was absolutely breath taking, I didn't have the words to describe how happy this made me.
I looked to my mom, my jaw dropped and eyes wide. She smiled and unbuckled her seatbelt, I did the same, ripping the door open and almost falling out of the car.
"Holy shit mom! This is incredible." I beamed at her, trying to ignore the aching in my legs from being so still and cramped for so long.
"I know you hate these sorts of towns so I hoped a nice house would change your perspective just a little." She explained, running her hand up and down my back lovingly. I turned to her and wrapped my arms around her torso, squeezing tightly.
She squeezed back but let go when she realized the moving people were here. She cupped my cheek with her hand and gave me the house keys. "Go get your bags and pick out a room, if you want you can check out the rest of the town, I'll just make these guys do all the work while I boss them around." My mother smiled devilishly and gestured to the men in the huge truck behind us. I grinned back, narrowing my eyes as thoughts of mischief filled my mind as I took the keys.
"Thank you, mom!" I called out as I raced to the trunk of the car, pulling out my suitcases and stumbling to the front door.
I dropped my bags to slide the key into the keyhole and swung the door open, the first thing I saw when I opened the door was the huge empty space to the left and the kitchen to the back right of the large room. Just behind the kitchen were these huge, long glass panels with doors in the middle which led outside to the pool and backyard.
My mouth hung open and it took all my will power not to scream like a silly little schoolgirl. I snatched back up my bags and carefully made my way along the smoothed-out timer floor. The kitchen was pressed up against a wall which turned out to be the stairs, the wall was only separating them.
I stumbled over towards the steps and decided that I would make multiple trips to carry all my luggage upstairs, otherwise I would end up falling and snapping my neck. After some snooping, I found the second biggest room up there, it had a walk-in closet and two small steps that lead to what looked like a tiny platform, I'm guessing my bed would go there.
I threw my bags into a small corner and out of the way so no one would trip, I grabbed one of my backpacks and found my purse, I had a fifty dollar note in there and decided that I could stalk out some of the good stores or just get some food or something.
--
I told my mom my plans and she said that it was fine. The warm breeze made my skin tingle and the hot sun made me squint when I looked even remotely towards the sky.
I set off in a direction I estimated to be the mall, kicking pebbled and stones as I walked. A group of little kids on their bikes rode past me and it made me wonder how the hell they ride their bikes in such heat.
After a little whiles walk I came across the small corner store, the grab and go. I weighed my choices, I could go to the grab and go to snoop and buy some overly priced soda's and candies, or I could find a mall and get a new pair of shoes or clothes or something.
 I only have fifty bucks so I might not be able to get some quality clothes or shoes so I'll just go to the grab and go instead.
I walked through the doors, the bell hanging off the frame made a ding sound as I stepped through. I took my time to look around and take a stroll, I noticed out of the corner of my eye a pinball machine, I was about to go take a closer look but a boy with long, blond curly hair stepped up first and slotted some coins in.
I didn't pay much mind to him and continued on my hunt for some good snacks, I stopped at the rows of magazines they had on shelves, I flipped through some before deciding they weren't worth my while.
Turning around, I spotted some sodas in the big fridge. My gaze glossed over all the choices; I was about to reach for a bottle of cherry flavored coke when I heard the flimsy metal of a shelf crash.
I whipped my head around to see these boys who looked around 12 or thirteen grab a little boy's hair and snatch a packet of MnM's out of his hand. My face scrunched in disguised at these boys' behavior, I don't like little kids, but picking on them is something I couldn't even think of doing.
"Hey, asshole!" I shouted, taking a few steps towards the trio. One was a ginger with curly hair and a pale, freckled face. The tallest was a skinny boy with long matted hair that was swept to the side over his forehead. The last one was smaller than the rest and chubby with big, bulging eyes.
I wasn't super tall for my age, I was probably a millimeter below average height but even so, I wasn't much taller than these guys.
They're heads all turned to look at me, their faces almost shocked that anyone had said anything to them. "Hey, who the hell are you?" the tallest nodded his head at me, his eyes narrowing and a tough look on his face.
"Why does that matter?" I resorted, his eyebrows knitted together, his friends took a step towards me so they were in line with him.
"Do you know how pathetic is to see people twice somebody's age picking on them?" I crossed my arms and slanted my hips. One scoffed and the others rolled their eyes.
"If you have such a problem with it, why don't you come do something about it?" One challenged, I raised my eyebrow, my lips twitching up into a menacing smile.
"Why don't you think about what you're asking before you say something you'll regret." I narrowed my eyes and mentally prepared myself for a fight.
This isn't the first time I've fought someone, and it definitely won't be the last. I would say I am a pretty experienced fighter; it became part of survival at school, everybody hated me for no good reason and a lot of the time people would jump me and try and beat me up. Over time I have learnt a good about of fighting skills, now I can confidently say that I can win over half the fights I get myself into.
"How about you watch your mouth before I knock your teeth out." One spat hatefully, I let out a laugh and pretended to wipe a tear from my eye. "I'd like to see you try little boy."
I saw the small kid behind them try and scoot away from the intimidating scene before him, but the chubby kid from the trio grabbed him by the back of the shirt and threw him to the ground. My blood boiled at the sight.
"Hey!" I yelled marching up to the chubby boy, snatching his collar so he faced away from the boy crying boy on the floor. I raised my fist high and struck him in the nose as hard as I could, he yelped in pain and his hands shot to his wound, blood leaking from his closed fingers.
By now a crowed of almost everyone in the store had formed but I didn't waste much thought on that as the two other boys came charging towards me. One tried tackling me but I gripped his hair tightly at the roots and pulled his face down onto my raised knee, his jaw colliding with my kneecap.
I threw him to the floor and landed a kick to his stomach, just to make sure he would stay down. Just as I landed a third blow, the ginger boy snatched my hair from behind and attempted to drag my onto my back, I threw my arms behind my head and clawed mercilessly at his cheeks and forehead. He let go with a pained scream and I raised my elbow, swiftly turning my body as I repeatedly rammed my elbow into any part of his face.
He fell backwards into the large glass fridges, but they didn't break. I held his up his collar and swung my fists into his nose and lips until the flesh on my knuckles ended up ripping on his teeth. My face grimaced as I clutched my bloodied fist in the palm of my second hand.
I spotted the chubby kid still standing there trembling with his hands covering his nose and tears spilling from his eyes.
"Now, do you want some more, or have you learnt your lesson on running your mouth?" I gave him a sarcastic smile as I bent down to eye level with him. He shook his head vigorously and backed away from me. "Good." I said through gritted teeth.
I wiped my bloodied knuckled on my pants and bent down to the crying boy on the floor. "Hey kid, come here." I said gently, opening my arms up to him. He picked himself up and stumbled into my arms, laying his head on my shoulder. "Can I pick you up?" I asked softly, running my fingers along his back comfortingly, I felt him nod and a chill go up my spine as I felt his tears seep through my clothes and onto my skin.
I picked him up as gently as I could, slightly bouncing him to help ease his crying. I tried hard not to look at the staring faces as I slowly pushed my way out of the store, I tried to squeeze through some people and accidently knocked my foot into someone else's. It was the boy at the pinball machine.
"Sorry." I called, slightly turning to face him. His face contorted into a look of frustration, he looked like he was about to say something but decided against it, turning his head away from me. I pushed him to the back of my mind as I carried the crying boy out of the store.
"Can you tell me where your mommy is?" I asked sweetly. He nodded and pointed to a dark green corvette stingray. "Are you sure?" I asked. "Uh huh." He answered weakly, I stroked his back, bringing my hands up to play with the little curls at the nape of his neck.
I wandered over to the car, my arm muscles slightly aching from not being used to holding human weight. I knocked on the drivers window and a lady who was flipping through a magazine slowly rolled it down.
"Hey, um, is this your son?" I asked slightly awkwardly. "Yes, who are you?" She asked, trying not to sound rude. "Um, he was being picked on by a group of kids inside the store, they were shoving him and stealing his candy. I came over to help." I explained, she quickly stepped out of the car and took the child from me.
"Oh, I'm so sorry you had to get caught up in that, thank you so much for helping him." She smiled brightly and coddled the child in her arms. "Oh, it's no trouble, so how old is he?" I asked, trying to change the subject, and sheepishly bringing my knuckles behind my back. "He is five, I really should have gone in with him, this is all my fault." She spoke.
I didn't say anything, I didn't want to justify her bad choice as a parent, so I just stayed quiet. "Anyway, thank you so much for helping, is there anything you want in return?" She stammered; I shook my head but widened my eyes as I remembered something.
"No but I did forget something inside, stay right here, I'll be back." I said, racing back into the lovely, air-conditioned store. I snatched a new bag of MnM's and a lollipop from the shelf and raced to the counter, ripping my fifty bucks from my purse.
The store clerk took her time when serving me, glaring at me the whole throughout the whole process I was just about to grab my items and rush back out, but she started talking. "Now, that was very heroic of you but if I catch you starting fights in my store again, I will call the police." She spoke with warning, and I knew she wasn't bluffing.
"It won't ma'am." I said hurriedly, grabbing up my items and change before scurrying out. I dashed towards the car, handing the lady her child's sweets. "He forgot these." I spoke.
I think the lady thanked me over one hundred time and offered my money twice as much, to which I still refused. Eventually I said goodbye to the two and decided to head home and wash the blood off my hands and clean up the cuts on my knuckles.
By now the sky was just starting to turn orange and the walk home was peaceful, I felt happy to know that I helped someone. Those boys got what they deserved and whoever gives me shit for it can end up with the same fate as them, they have no right to go picking on a five-year-old like that because of their selfishness.
I got home and the moving people were still heaving stuff in through our big wooden doors. Mom was in the kitchen ordering people around; she looked like she was having the time of her life. I strolled past her, giving her a small kiss on the cheek before going to find a bathroom so I can wash up.
I think my first day in a new town was a success, I'm guessing new spreads fast around a small town like this so I'm hoping the following days will be even more interesting.
