star trek is really funny in that a ship or a station is like a, idk, an avengers tower. a fanfiction trope. all these people who aren't connected by family ties live together in one space and interact with each other. when they want to see each other they just take the lift. but it's not cringe because they're like workers on an oil rig. sailors on a long voyage, etc.
