Seeing both Busted and Wheatus in the same show was one of the strangest things I've ever seen. All the hits. All the classics #busted #pigscanflytour #wheatus #year3000 (at The SSE Arena, Belfast)

I don't know if anyone will care, but I play in a band called January from Belfast. We released our first two tracks back in November, and after the entire promotion period, first show nerves and now onto planning the next release, I thought I'd share or at the very least, archive my thoughts from the session and releasing the project. Hope you like/reblog/read and maybe even enjoy and check out the tracks talked about in the post. For those interested - januarysadsongs.bandcamp.com
At the start of September, we entered Start Together Studios in The Oh Yeah Centre, Belfast, to record our debut tracks.
We had been working towards writing tracks to show to the public throughout the summer of 2015. Upon reaching our session, we had two tracks that we were extremely proud of, and we had worked hard on for weeks, tweaking and meticulously working on to improve.
Producer Chris Ryan, worked tirelessly during the session to accommodate us, helping to fine tune the sonic elements of the tracks. After a long, 11 hour day, tracking drums and multiple guitar parts using a number of different techniques and tones, we’d reached the halfway point of tracking our debut release.
The most daunting and nerving part of the recording process was still to come, and with having little, if any vocal experience in the song writing aspect, at times it was frustrating. Working on the vocals, both melodies and lyrics took as long as the rest of the songs, if not more. And it was somewhat obvious that I wasn’t comfortable behind the microphone. The mere fact that the other members were showing signs of enjoyability in the melodies and themes was comforting enough for me to continue.
Hearing songs that you’ve been a part of creating come together in the studio in one of the most rewarding aspects of being in a band. It’s the first step along the path of a career in music, being it a part time hobby, or a full time commitment. The excitement building the tracks up bit by bit and even adding impromptu key sections in our case, is one that can rarely be matched. Although the band have been writing together for such a short time, we continue to be thinking along the exact same path in the creative process, and it makes everything ten times easier when there are two other people who you know will be able to contribute great ideas that you won’t need to think twice about.
The opportunity to work with Dan Coutant came about at the end of the recording process, and being fans of some of the other projects he has mastered - namely Dads, Touche Amore / Pianos Become The Teeth and New Found Glory - we jumped at the opportunity to be part of his clientele. We felt that Dan would help develop the sound that we were aiming for in the tracks. In the end, we had created a project that we were extremely proud of. The main thing we were against before booking studio time was recording before we were ready. We didn’t want to rush the tracks into sub par work that we would one day regret, and one day hate. Taking the extra time to work on the tracks was the single most important thing we’ve done to this day. We were able to put our name on something we felt connected to and something that represents us and what we’ve been through. It felt genuine. I can’t wait to do it all again
