All metro corridors to terminate at Shamshabad
Telangana Rashtra Samithi working president K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday unveiled a large package of development programmes to be undertaken by the TRS government in its second term of office to make Hyderabad “a liveable and lovable” city. HMDA Plots in Maheshwaram
Topping the list was metro rail extension connecting all corridors with the Shamshabad airport. The metro rail will also run from Mind Space junction to the airport, terminal points at Falaknuma and L.B. Nagar to airport, Chandanagar to Lakdikapul, Nagole to L.B. Nagar and ECIL to Uppal. The project report on second phase of metro rail covering these works was already prepared by the government for being posed to the Centre for financial assistance, Mr. Rao said at an interactive session with IT professionals to introduce them to the TRS Lok Sabha candidates — Dr. G. Ranjith Reddy and Mr. Marri Rajasekhara Reddy.
‘New municipal act’
Mr. Rao said the State government would enact a new municipal legislation before the next municipal elections which would be “tough and rigid” in content. A project on underground sewerage for peripheral municipalities which were merged with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation would be implemented at a cost of ₹3,100 crore. But, the challenge was to keep the roads in good condition when the works were taken up.
An integrated township policy would be evolved to make housing affordable for IT professionals and other executives around Outer Ring Road. About 240 lakes outside ORR would be developed at ₹540 crore.
He said all polluting industries would be shifted out of Jeedimetla and Bachupally. About 4,000 polluting RTC buses would be phased out.
Mr. Rao said two reservoirs with a storage capacity of 10 tmc ft each at Keshavapuram and Devulappanagar near Choutuppal were proposed to augment storage of an additional seven tmc ft in Osmansagar and Himayatsagar. Power would be generated on islands within the reservoirs to ensure uninterrupted supply.
He said the list of IT companies wanting to start operations in the city had continued to grow under TRS rule due to office space availability.
