what's the point of imagining ocs as bosses in a video game if i don't give them mechanics that would give a casual player a fucking heart attack
#GENERAL.#you only play swtor for the story? yeah that's totally cool and valid. don't look behind you btw.#hyroh's can be summed as follows: casters hate him. melee hate him. you want uptime? too bad. dodge his line aoes or die#heal checks in the form of DOTs and raidwides that wake the healers up a lil yanno#i cant remember if swtor has something equiv to ffxiv's vulnerability stacks its been so long#but if you fail any of his mechanics in addition to whatever damage you take you get an additional burn DOT#on top of any DOT you might've already had from another mechanic#that burn DOT also has a 60 sec cooldown and stacks so if you fail multiple mechanics within that window you will take more damage#twirls hair. just. yanno. giggles.#there's not really any environmental mechanics that i remember swtor utilizing a lot because that's not hyroh's style#he's a master swordsman. none of that silly force telekinesis shit /lh#ultimately i think his boss fight would be meant to challenge players to execute good positioning and would reward those#who know how to make movement as economical as possible#(so in the case of casting classes they can go back to casting as soon as possible)#(and in the case of melee returning to melee range as soon as possible)#and leaves very room for error#obviously if he's a flashpoint or operations boss he's got varying levels of difficulty#some mechanics may or may not be present#but like. he's kind of annoying on purpose and i think intentionally breaks the mold .. in the hypothetical world#where he IS a boss#yes its also my bias towards' ffxiv's encounter design leave me alone#i'll at least watch some recordings of swtor raids to jog my memory before putting anything to paper /lh

(barely awake) mm …. swtor “retelling” of sorts … same sandbox, same ocs, but trying to .. not Lower the Stakes, but i think as fun as it is to play & think about, operating within the bounds of the class campaign is also a little limiting in some respects & we can only save the galaxy so many times before i start getting bored.
in a way i feel like taking taizi, izvoye, and hyroh (who lbr are my only consistent player characters - everyone else has been overwritten at least twice) off the Plot Rollercoaster might give them a lot more Room to do the things i’d like to do with them.
hmm. much to think about.

anyway. before i was interrupted. i don't necessarily want to Change shadow of dread to make them besties4eva - it feels crunchier that it's something that's doomed to end eventually, at least between taizi and hyroh & izvoye. i also just crave a playground where they get to be friends.
and turns out xiv is a really good setting for that, as well as a place for me to play with their characters in ways i haven't really had ideas as to how to do in swtor. #1 being it's izvoye's turn to play with dark forbidden powers, hyroh and taizi don't get to have all the fun!
the appeal of an xiv au for the big three is because i really, genuinely want nothing more than to have a reason to stick them together to go through horrors and joys alike but it feels hard to figure out how to do that in swtor's playground & the timeline juggling + all of them having their own roles post-base game. not to mention that they're going to be eventually divided by faction lines eventually because taizi is never going to go to the republic, neither hyroh or izvoye would leave for the empire.
and, i mean, i do not have Narrative Issues with these three having their weird coworkership & the bittersweet farewells after SOR / whatever the hell i figure out to do with the alliance. i like that too - SPIDER ON MY DESK

want to post the big three (taizi izvoye hyroh) but dont know how to explain or put down all the thoughts that have been brewing in the back of my brain for multiple years. might make an xiv au for them altogether . maybe that will do it -

Can you not see it? The past looms over us all ... a shadow of unchanging history. There are fools who believe they can outrun the shadow. Without a flame to chase it away, it will consume them - they are doomed to repeat the same failures.

asking "who would win" between the big three (taizi, hyroh, izvoye) is actually so much more difficult than i thought it was, no wonder i've just kind of avoided thinking about it. sure, taizi's a really beefy dps / basically a tank, but hyroh is prodigious when it comes to lightsaber combat. both taizi and hyroh have izvoye beat in the close combat department, but she's far more skilled with using the force as a weapon and defense i.e. with telekinesis than either of them. taizi can't lift anything bigger than a large rock - hyroh's about the same, but it takes more concentration than he can afford as a dual-wielder. and yet, taizi's survived having a cave dropped on him. it's not canon anymore, but hyroh has too, and as part of one of my bajillion AUs, he even miraculously survived falling from a star fortress as it was crashing to the planet below.
i think hyroh could beat izvoye by account of having insane dps and being way faster than he has any right to be. whatever advantage of distance she might be able to get at the start would be negated fairly quickly because of hyroh's agility.
taizi and izvoye would probably just be stuck in a stalemate for awhile, because unlike hyroh, taizi would have a harder time closing the gap if she just keeps throwing shit at him. though eventually, if it went on long enough, izvoye would run out of mana - er, i mean, she'd become too worn out to keep up. so she'd be forced into lightsaber combat sooner or later, which while her skills are nothing to sneeze at, i don't think she's quite a match for taizi.
i have no idea who would win between taizi and hyroh. that would be an eternal stalemate, because although hyroh's primary style is something incredibly fast-paced and draining, he's well-versed in the other lightsaber forms. and unlike izvoye, hyroh's a little more tanky than your average dps, so he could take a few hits too before he gets in trouble.

fanfic writers will go "anyone gonna explore the kinda fucked up or emotionally impactful implications of this minor canon detail?" and then not wait for an answer.

childhood best friends to lovers to bitter enemies desperate for each other's blood back to desperate lovers again, and all the fucked up shades of devotion in between <3
aka I'd pose this in swtor if we had gpose, but until then. @shadowsofdread gave tyr fhyren and he hasn't been the same since etc etc.
