BTS is for everyone, including strongman John Cena
Tumblr media
When you think of John Cena, what comes to your mind? As a 16-time WWE champion, John is absolutely massive! Standing at 185cm and weighing 114kgs, he is a towering figure with an intimidating on-stage presence. But… did you know he also has a soft spot for BTS? Yup! John Cena is a fan! Begin As always, it starts with a post online. Constantly presenting a tough and menacing face on stage, John is hardly this fierce figure offline. He soon embarked on a journey of posting self-love messages on Twitter. One thing led to another, and his vulnerable side was spotted by none other than BTS’ ARMY! Through his honest messages, he gained the support and love of BTS’ followers, further encouraging him to embrace who is he. “I put out all these messages about self-love and I’m thinking, ‘This is not going to be a good idea because this big, larger-than-life, 16-time WWE champion is now talking about vulnerability and the fact that you are enough and you shouldn’t be ashamed of who you are,’ but it caught fire because of the BTS ARMY.” – John Cena Love Yourself With his growing love for BTS, John eventually went on to write not one, but two motivational books! What was his source of inspiration? BTS’ third album, Love Yourself: Answers, in 2018. He has been such a big fan, he has expressed his love for them on multiple occasions! Check out this interview he had on James Corden’s talk show, where he shoots both envious and shocked looks at his fellow guest. Or how about that time when he offered to be BTS’ bodyguard? Answer: Love Myself Many around the world enjoy BTS’ music with their feel-good messages and dedication to their craft. Other than being the first ever to land No. 1 on multiple Billboard charts and recently having won 4, they have been outspoken about support for others. Just last month, they spoke up about facing Asian racism. Last year, they donated $1 million to support Black Lives Matter. The Army matched this amount in just 25 hours! So if John Cena can show his soft side and talk about self-love, so can the toughest of us. Let’s spread more good vibes along with BTS’ awesome beats.  Shadee Care has many inspiring quotes to share with friends, send one today.   Read the full article

The burger approach to managing parent's expectations.
Tumblr media
So the exams are over and you have that jittery feeling in your tummy that the results may not quite meet your parents expectations. Sometimes breaking bad news like exam results can be tougher than doing the exam itself.  The secret to doing so and managing parent’s expectations can be as easy as enjoying a burger. Here is how:   (1) The Bun - Easy does it! Nobody wants to hear a shocker and have a bomb dropped on them. Bad news is hard to digest so start off easy, be gentle and soft. Make sure your parents are comfortable and in a good mood when you want to break the bad news.   (2) The Greens - Make it light Start off on a lite topic and be as cheerful as you can be.  Ask how their day has been or show some concern for them. Talk about the things that interest them or the most recent thing that you did together that was enjoyable. Throw in loads of hints of how you are such a good kid!   (3) The Cheese - Say all the right things Even though you don't completely buy it, say all the cheezy stuff like how much you love studying and doing all the endless homework. Say how all this hard work is really helping to prepare for your bright future....blah, blah, blah.   (4) The Patty - Here's the heavy meaty truth! Then slap on the bad news about your results. But try to break it down to bite-size chunks and pepper it with a lot of positivity. Your parents may want to know what went wrong and you may have to go through the different sections of the exam paper with them. But remember to be mindful that your parents may start getting a lil bit edgy by now. So be very mindful of your tone of voice and how you say things.   Section A – MCQ: Must-Cheong-Question.  Problem is too many confusing answers to choose and not enough time. You think to yourself: Too much to study, how to finish revising the syllabus in such a short span of time?!! Sure, MOE phased out exams for most levels, but we still have endless homework and term assessments. If you are in Secondary 4 you are loaded with preparation for DSA or have to start thinking about ‘O’ Levels!  And online learning is a whole new world! There's just too much to do and not enough time.  As a students, you are just tossed with all sorts of demands and you don't have a say in anything, And everybody expects you to A’s everything. Parents should sit for the exam themselves then they'll know what it feels like! But try to say this to your parents: "There has been a lot of new things and new ways of doing things that I was not familiar with. And there is just not enough time to handle so much. All this makes me nervous as I am keen to do well in all of them Maybe you can provide some guidance and share your own experience when you were a student. Like how you felt when you were going through killer exams and stressed for time. That would really encourage me to know how you handled it"   Section B – Short break. Oops, did I miss out studying for this section? You think to yourself:  Some teachers really don't know how to teach! Half the time my mind drifts off to outer-space and I dunno whaaat Cher is talking about. Ok, so I may have gotten a bit too distracted with Netflix but everybody needs a break, right?!! But try to say this to your parents: "I concentrated very hard during lessons but the teacher talked too fast and I missed out on a lot of information. But I did try to catch up on my own. The topics are also getting quite hard to understand and I feel my brain getting very tired when I study. So taking little breaks away from studies really helped me".   Section C – Long-term consequences. Just too much depends on this. You think to yourself: It’s so unfair that people always think that you don’t care about your future just because your results don’t meet their expectations. But their expectations are unrealistic, there can only be one 1st place in every class, level and cohort. But being number 1 isn’t everything or the only thing, why can't parents see that! Besides, pouring our entire term or year of learning into one paper may not work for everyone! But try to say this to your Parents: "There's only 1 first place, but coming in number 38 in my class, out of a school of 1000 students is not too bad". But if this line is too cheeky for your parents, try this instead: "I am very concern about my future but I'm learning to take things in my stride and pace myself so I can reach the finish line and do well at the end. My results may not be amazing this time but I'll learn from this. I'll work smarter, harder and do better the next time". Depending on what your parents are like, be prepared to face their disappointment. It may manifest in different ways and you probably already know what it's gonna be like. Bear with it, it'll blow over after a while.   (5) The Bun - This base will hold everything nicely together Give your parents a soft landing with your results. They are as anxious as you are as they have very little control over the situation since they can only sit by the side lines while you battle it out in the education system. So, give them some assurance and allow them into some part of your world. And appreciate them even when they show their concern in ways that you don't enjoy. Try to say this to your parents: I know you are anxious about my studies and my future, and I am thankful that you care. There's just so much to handle in life and in school, so many things that I don't understand and don't know what to do about. Sometime, I feel very scared and confused, and I guess those feelings come out in the wrong way. So, I hope you'll be patient with me as I go through all the trips and falls in life, and I hope you'll continue to believe in me and be there for me. Maybe, these words are not exactly what you will say to your parents. But the main thing is to manage their expectations in a calm and thoughtful manner. Find a good time to talk and let your parents onto your results gently. Also, a little appreciation goes a long way, so try that too with your parents. Come to http://shadee.care for more of such lifehacks.    Read the full article

There's a better way to learn Chemistry
Tumblr media
If you have been using the same old methods of learning and it does nothing to help you, then maybe it’s about time to try a different approach. Here are some effective tips on studying Chemistry from Seb Academy.
How do you learn and pick up Chemistry quickly and effortlessly?
Tumblr media
The most important key is, you have to try. You can abbreviate Chemistry as “Chem-Is-Try”! The more you try, the more you will pick up skills along the way to understand the concepts. Never give up. Pick yourself up even after you got a question wrong, look at the question again and ask why it is so and how to do it. Practice makes perfect. It is not just for mathematics. It is for chemistry too! We just have to pick up where we left off and continue to try and attempt the questions again. Probably, you are at a stage where you are keen to start reviewing the concepts which you have trouble with but each question makes little sense. The key is to work with questions via a skill-based approach. For example, when we learn the topic of electrolysis and its complex application of electroplating gold onto a flower, we firstly have to understand what conducts electricity, and the changes that happen to these substances when they conduct electricity. We address this as skill-based learning. We cannot run unless we learn how to walk. We got to build a good base before we proceed with more difficult questions. Imagine you are playing Jenga. If our base of the Jenga blocks is not stable what will happen if we continue to stack more bricks to the tower? It will get more unstable and collapse. We have to make sure our foundation is grounded and hence use the keys from the foundational level of understanding to apply to more complex questions.  It is like playing Super Mario, or for a game you you are more familiar with: Minecraft. After you build a house, you move on to build a good base and proceed to build more complex fortresses to survive, even an onslaught of a zombie apocalypse! Apply skills-based learning next time when you are reviewing concepts. Start off with the level 1s of each chapter and review before you progress to the application questions. You can do it. Thirdly, seek consultation. Sometimes when Chemistry seems like a maze, we look for help! Don’t be shy to ask for help. You can consult your seniors and friends if you feel shy about consulting your teacher! 2 heads are better than one and you would never know if through the discussion you suddenly go, “Eureka! I know how to solve it!” Moreover, the teachers are a text away. We are always here to cheer you on. Discipline yourself to work on the practice. Sometimes when you don’t feel like getting any work done, set an achievable goal and work towards it. How do we make sure we steer clear of distractions and complete the tasks at hand? Set a reward after you have accomplished the task! It will make it more enjoyable. Now, make sure you have an achievable goal so it is a task which you can complete. You can also spin some non-lyrical instrumental music on Spotify if audial aids work to help you focus. My last advice for you is to look for Chemistry in our every day. Saw a choked pipe at home? We can use acid-carbonate reactions to remove the choke through effervescence and mechanical action to rid the choke. Why do we cry when we cut onions? Diffusion! And why do we not tear as much when cutting onions in colder weather? I did It when I was in London and it was because the temperature was colder so particles diffuse more slowly! Look out for chemistry applications all around you and you will be amazed to see it coming alive in our lives. When we appreciate chemistry in our lives, it will help us to pick up more complex questions with a curiosity to command it better! Remember, Chemistry is “Chem-Is-Try”! Start off somewhere and every step you take gets you a little further than where you had been. You got this in you and you can do it.

Stop the stigma on mental disorder
Tumblr media
Framing who? If you haven’t heard, there's a documentary titled "Framing Britney Spears" trending now about a star who once held a Las Vegas residency. Like many K-pop stars today, she debuted at 18 years old. At this age, we're usually lost, confused, part-angry and mostly bored. Britney Spears took on a life very different from what we know. Mental health Anxiety is a condition that can develop in so many situations. Being in the spotlight made her so anxious, even about a single strand of hair being out of place! After delivering two babies, Britney shaved her head and hit a car with an umbrella. She was seen as having a meltdown. Throughout her childhood years, she witnessed her parents' fight as her father abused alcohol. Now, her memories caught up with her, and she struggled to deal with her emotions. Her mom believes Britney had post-partum depression. She also displayed signs of bipolar disorder, showing shifts in her ever-changing emotions. No money, no friends She's been under conservatorship since 2008, with her father appointed as her legal guardian. What does this even mean? Imagine having no control over your hard-earned money, friends you meet or even a doctor's visit. That's a conservatorship, where a legal guardian makes all of your decisions, whether you like it or not. Road to recovery TBH, it may be hard to say if she’s really recovering. But she’s definitely fighting back. For now, she’s starting with taking care of her anxiety issues and refusing to work indefinitely. #FreeBritney Post Framing Britney Spears, celebrities are stepping up to show their love and support for this Princess of Pop. One fan wrote about his incredibly personal experience being a Britney fan and how her fans' circle helped him pull through his tough times. You may be curious to know why #FreeBritney is even trending and WHEN this started. Throwback to 2017, two of Britney’s loyal fans launched a podcast about receiving insider’s news on Britney. Now, these two have been following Britney Spears’ social media closely and spotted gaps in her posts. Check out this link for the podcast where the whistle-blower describes the whole legal issue as “disturbing”. Britney Spears is still fighting to be her own self again, one day at a time, and her days of the court are far from over. Until then, #FreeBritney. Mental disorder is like any other physiological disease and people who suffer from it deserves the same compassion, support and dignity. If you know of anyone who is discriminated or stigmatised because of a mental disorder, stand up for this person and  free this 'Britney'. Send this to friends to stop the discrimination of mental disorder.     Read the full article

Russian Tutor, Boyband competition and Sang Culture
Tumblr media
Vladislav Ivanov better known as Lelush is a Russian Tutor engaged to teach Chinese to two Japanese contestants in a boyband reality TV competition in China but found himself as a contestant as well. Introverted and totally uncomfortable with singing and dancing, he quickly regretted his decision but could not back out as he had signed the contract and would have to pay hefty amounts if he’d quit. Week after week, Lelush told fans not to support him only to find himself voted in time and again. Fans found his plight relatable as they decorated him as the ‘the most miserable wage slave’ and an icon of the ‘Sang culture. In china, young adults are experiencing a culture of chronic over-work and a lack lustre life. While, many of us would dream of being a celebrity and give it all to achieve this, Lelush is admirably clear about the life that he wants, or in this case what he doesn’t want. Even with his good looks and decent rapping, he is realistic about his limitations in singing and dancing. Credit must be given to him as he was clearly tired and didn’t enjoy the long training and practices but continued to do as he had agreed while hoping to get voted out every round so that he could go home. Only in the final rounds was Lelush finally voted out. While fame and fortune can be enticing to many, the Sang Culture is fast becoming a trend in China and Japan. Young people are increasingly apathetic towards life and losing motivation in work as they deem it futile to chase after wealth and success. While contentment in life is a virtue, it’s a fine line between wanting a simple life and feeling hopeless about the situation that we are in. Sometimes, when we continue endlessly on a treadmill of demands, it can cause us to suffer burnout. Knowing how to identify mental exhaustion is critical, as it’s easy to slip into depression if left unabated. Lessons from a real hero
Tumblr media
Genius, billionaire, philanthropist, some people appear to have it all. But maybe just like Tony Stark, there’s another reality that they battle underneath that iron front. We love superheroes like Iron Man, not just because of his heroic deeds but because he is so relatable. It’s ok if you can’t be strong and courageous all the time. We all have our low points and that’s what makes us real and human. There’s a lot of hype about the next Iron Man movie and Tony Stark’s daughter Morgan is slated to take over. We think that Iron Man has left behind a huge legacy for Morgan to continue, read more at https://shadee.care   #IronMan #Marvel #Anxiety #PTSD #Grief #Superhero #TonyStark #mentalhealth #selfcare #shadeecare  Read the full article

BTS music, even for the deaf

So BTS did not win a Grammy. But they seem rather cool about that. Cos what’s more important is that their songs are touching hearts across the globe even those who can’t hear. Saori Fujimoto was so inspired by BTS songs that she performed ‘Dynamite’ in sign language so that the hearing impaired could enjoy. Do you know of any BTS songs that can help those with mental struggles? Shadee.care is about helping others lift the gloom and have a better day.
