abled ppl love the aesthetics of disability but they're so scared of actual disability

the angst of a panic attack or meltdown or seizure, the visual of scars and braces and crutches and nasal cannulas and hospital monitors beeping away, the idea of overcoming struggle and the limits of the human body. it's all beautiful whump for their gifs and fics and comics.

but the second they see someone needing an EMG or bronchoscopy, someone using a power chair and needing help getting into a building and advocating for their accessibility, someone using their inhaler, someone with stumps or disproportionate limbs, the mere idea of an ostomy bag or incontinence? you need to tag that, that's disgusting, that's triggering, nobody wants to see all of that.

fucking get with it. accept every aspect of it or don't even think about writing it.

I love the random replacements for clichés writers insert in science fiction shows. like when a 21st-century human would say "stop pacing you'll wear a hole in the floor" but in a space show the alien/future human says "you're oscillating like a Betelgeusian night badger" or some shit. like fuck yeah he is. amazing drive-by worldbuilding. I'm gonna spend the next half hour wondering why the Betelgeusian night badger evolved to do that

Randomly remembered this one time in high school in philosophy class, when for some reason the lesson involved some aphorism along the lines of "the best thing about getting older is that the amount of beautiful younger women just increases year by year", and one girl in the class felt compelled to make it known that She Does Not Get It. What does that mean?? Like what could that even mean in any way?? It just doesn't make any sense??

And since it was philosophy class, the teacher allowed us to stop the lesson in a screeching halt and start explaining this to her. Everyone tried to explain it to her in their own ways. I tried to make an example, that since everyone in this class is 17/18, if one of the boys here was dating a woman who is 30, he'd be dating a way older woman. But if the same 30-year-old woman was dating a man who's like 50, he'd be dating a way younger woman than himself.

But no matter what anyone tried, she just kept making this face:

Friendly reminder that all emergency pull cords must touch the floor. This does not mean tied up or resting on something or a foot off of the floor. In the United States, the cord must be within 2-6 inches off of the floor, but the best length is 2 inches from the floor.

These pull cords are also much easier to see if they are red and are less likely to be pulled out of curiosity when they are red.

Apparently this local group of middle-aged drunks have decided we've passed by each other often enough that we are now aquaintances. I've seen them around often enough to recognise them on sight and I dress distinctly enough for them to recognise me too and go "AYO HEY IT'S THAT GUY WHAT'S UP" when walking past each other and don't even break stride to verify that I'm doing good and that they're doing good and we're both off our ways to opposite directions.

Sometimes I guess you've got to have people who have fuck-all to do with you save for walking the same roads and you tell them to have a nice day so they'll tell you to have one too.
