Ica's whisper woke the morning light,

"Claude, arise, our adventure's sight."

No response, stillness, eerie gray,

Her heart denied what dawn's light would say.

Tears pooled, hazel eyes' sorrowful sea,

Freckled cheeks, a grief-stricken spree.

"I'm not ready," she sobbed, her voice astray,

"Need you still, our Zephie day."

Memories flooded, 31 years of love,

Adventures shared, sent from above.

Fingers traced his soft, white hair,

Down his face, a tender, loving care.

"My wily old man," she murmured low,

"Grateful for life, our journey's glow."

Jehovah's path, hand in hand,

Unwavering love, their bond's stand.

A gentle kiss, lips unmoving still,

"I love you," heart's eternal thrill.

Deep breath, prayer, phone in hand,

Heartbreaking news, Zephie to stand.

"No!" he cried, anguish's wild unrest.

Rocking gently, grief's violent sway,

Choking tears, a broken heart's pray.

Yesterday's laughter, now eternal sleep,

Vibrant life, frozen, cold, and deep.

Stunning beauty, love's enduring daze.

Thumb brushed brow, hair from closed eyes,
