Italics: Flashback from the Halloween special
Warning: slight cursing (like three times)
Tumblr media
“We need to talk Y/n.”
You sighed, pushing yourself from the sink, “Soyeon, I know we shouldn’t have done this but I also don’t regret it. I have absolutely no clue how you feel about this and the fact that you won’t tell me is driving me crazy so don’t tell me we need to talk.”
________________
“So…can I tell the coach that you’ll play on the national team for the next season?” Hwasa questioned.
You sat there for a second before answering, “You can, I’m happy to play for him.”
________________
“You kissed Soyeon!” Jennie sighed, lightly shoving your shoulder.
“I did, what’s the deal?” You questioned, rubbing your arm.
“The deal is that I’m afraid she’s gonna hurt you Y/n,” Jennie spoke with a softer tone.
“She kind of already did,” you murmured.
“What?”
________________
Your jumps were higher, your spikes harder and face was darkened. You hadn’t spoken a word, only shouting for the ball when you found a good opportunity. One thing was sure, the way you played this game would be a big talk in the news paper tomorrow. Jennie and Chaeyoung were first to notice your behavior, the latter deciding to talk to you.
“What’s wrong Y/n?” She asked when you sat on the bench for a break before the last set of your first game today.
“What is supposed to be wrong Chae?” You responded with as much of a smile you could manage.
“Jennie told me what happened so don’t act dumb.”
You sighed, meeting Chaeyoung’s eyes before deciding to tell the truth, “It’s making me go insane and the worst thing is that she’s not willing to talk about it. Soyeon completely ignored me when I came home yesterday, I don’t want to but I’m starting to regret this.”
Chaeyoung nodded, her eyes fixated on the ground. Noticing her silence, you put a hand on her shoulder, “I’m sorry, I didn’t want to bother you with my bullshit.”
Your friend was quick to reassure you, “No it’s fine, I know you needed to get this off your chest.”
Chuckling, you wrapped your arm around the girl’s shoulders, “You’re the best, really. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Oh I know that but do me a favor and keep playing this way, you’re scaring our opponents,” Chaeyoung laughed as she stood up again.
“Yeah I noticed, they only blocked three of my attacks so far. Maybe it’s good that I kept working out.”
“Really? When?”
Chaeyoung was lucky that the game continued so you had to let her comment go this once. But you also noticed the change in your play, there were so many attacks that wouldn’t have gone through the block with your usual strength, you just couldn’t figure out what caused your increase of strength.
The game continued the way it did before, your opponents seemed to be distracted or had already accepted the fact that they were going to lose. Their blocks were slow, too slow for you and Jennie and while your friend wasn’t as tall as you were, she sure as hell was just as fast if not even faster, making her a dangerous player.
The game ended quickly after announcing your victory again, 20:25. It was a clear loss for your rivals but you honestly couldn’t care less.
“You did great Y/n,” Jennie complimented, patting your back with her gummy smile.
“Thanks but that game was lame after the first round. It felt like they didn’t even try to beat us,” you responded.
Jennie pulled her hair out of her jacket as she spoke, “But that’s good for us isn’t it? We were able to spare our strength for the last game in the afternoon.”
“It is good for us Jen,” you nodded, “But I wonder why they’ve given up so fast. They weren’t even playing bad.”
“Always something to complain huh? Sometimes you’re despicable honestly.”
You rolled your eyes and followed your friend out of the room. Both of you walked down in the stairs in search of your teammates who wanted to wait for you outside. As you were about to reach the group, your phone began to ring.
“What’s up?” You questioned after you read the name flashing on your phone screen, it was Felix.
“Just wanted to warn you,” he chuckled through the phone, “Our parents just came home, they decided that they will watch your game as well as me and my friends.”
“What’s to warn about that Lix?”
You heard him scoff before he explained, “Soyeon is coming as well. I know you two are having some sort of disagreement right now so I thought I’d tell you.”
“Well, I appreciate it,” you smiled, unknown to your brother who only giggled in response.
As you hung up the phone seconds later, your friends were already waiting with shit-eating grins on their faces.
“Your parents want to watch you the game, how adorable,” Minnie mocked with a playful smile.
“Shut up Minnie Mouse,” you encountered. “And it’s the game for a place in the top ten so it’s not unimportant.”
“Don’t call me that again but I guess you’re right, the top ten are of great importance but if our opponents give up as fast as our last ones did, then I’m sure we’ll be just fine.”
You sighed, “You can’t expect every team to be like that from now on, there’s a reason they all made it to the nationals so we shouldn’t underestimate them.”
“We’ve worked hard enough, you’re always so pessimistic,” Miyeon nudged your shoulder.
“You’re right but it would make it easier for us. I guess we’ll just have to do our best and win this with magic,” Jennie intervened.
“No- Not magic Jen, magic isn’t reliable in this case,” you corrected, chuckled along with the others.
“Then with pure violence,” Jennie suggested, grinning before talking fast steps backwards when she saw your face.
“Jennie no!” Chaeyoung called out before starting to run after her.
The rest of you stood there, frozen on the spot as you tried not to laugh out loud. Shuhua spoke first again, “Should we follow them?”
“I’ll send Chae a message before it’s too late,” you answered before walking towards the entrance of the stadium again, Minnie, Miyeon and Shuhua close behind you.
________________
You had proven yourself right once again, the team you were playing against right now was faster, stronger and better in sync with each other. They had won the first set and even though it was close, you felt rage burning up inside you. Their blocks were like a wall that built up in front of you, seemingly impossible to break through.
“Don’t get taken aback Y/n, they’ll break if you keep trying,” Chaeyoung tried to encourage you.
Sighing, you responded, “I know but if I keep doing this I’ll injure myself, I’ll change with Shuhua for our sake.”
The change of players happened soon later. “Break them for us, for me,” You mumbled to Shuhua when she stepped past you onto the field.
Now you were here, sitting on the bench as you focused on the blocks of the opposing team. It angered you, the fact that there was no way to get through the wall their blockers built in front of you.
“Hey Y/n look,” Miyeon pointed into the crowd, “there’s your family and…why is the setter from All-Net sitting with them?”
“Because she’s living with us at the moment, personal reasons,” you explained, your eyes focused on Soyeon.
A smile appeared on her face when she noticed your staring, it was the first time you saw her smile in days.
“I’m going back in for the last round and I want you to come with me,” you suddenly announced when your attention shifted back to Miyeon next you.
She looked at you with wide eyes, “Wh-What? But Chaeyoung doesn’t look tired, why would you change the setter for someone worse?”
You shook your head and grabbed her neck, making her wince before both of you started to chuckle quietly. “How many times did I tell you to stop thinking this way huh? You’re an amazing setter and I think the team needs you now in particular.”
After the coach agreed to your plan, both you and Miyeon continued to observe the game. While the team on the opposite side of the field had won the first set, it was clear that they were getting tired of the fast attacks your friends gave them. It filled your chest with pride and you were quite thankful to see them play from the bench, giving you a better opportunity to learn about strengths and weaknesses of the team.
When the round ended and your friend came back to the bench for a break, you had won closely, 24:26. All of you knew the third round would be the hardest, tearing at any strength left in you and your teammates.
“They’re not gonna win this,” Jennie panted but the determination in her gaze was clearly visible.
You shook your head, “Of course not. I have an idea.”
“Then say it, we want to know,” Chaeyoung urged you to share your plan.
“Well, we could bring not only you as setter on the field, but Miyeon as well. This way, we can get more variety into the game. On top of that, more variety also makes us less predictable.”
“Where’d you get the idea?” Chaeyoung asked, sitting down on the floor.
You chuckled, “I saw another team do it in a tournament a few years ago.”
Glancing at Soyeon on the tribune, you remembered the match you played together in middle school. At the time, it was your captain’s idea and made you win the match in the end. You had remembered it in case it could be useful.
“We can try,” Jennie spoke, “But if we’ll lose then that’s on you N/n.”
You smiled and nodded, quickly looking up when it was signaled that the break was over. Everyone got up and walked onto the field, satisfied with your plan.
With Miyeon as your second setter, you had a lot more options to attack. It made the game easier for all of you and gave the audience a more varied match. Now, it was their turn to attack. Your gaze followed the opposite hitter, detecting wether she was going to spike or not. Jennie and Chaeyoung came rushing next to you before the three of you jumped up almost in sync to successfully block the hitter’s attack. You embraced both of your friends in a quick hug before stepping back to your position. The game continued this way. Even though you were tired and your legs were beginning to ache, you continued your high jumps and hard spikes.
It ended with an attack that wasn’t used often, or at least you hadn’t seen it often. You were watching in amazement when Miyeon set the ball to Chaeyoung who spiked the ball straight through the block of the opposing team. Cheering was heard from one side of the stadium, sighs on the other. Your team had just secured a place in the top ten but you were already planning further.
The coach thanked you after all of you had changed into more comfortable clothes and gave you the necessary information for the next rival.
“Are you alright Y/n? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Minnie joked after she threw an arm around her shoulder.
You sighed and pointed to a certain team on your paper, “If we win the next game, we’ll play against All-Net.”
“Scared you’ll lose to Soyeon or what?”Shuhua intervened from your other side.
“No it’s just,” you started, “If the whole team plays like her then we’ll have a problem.”
Minnie and Shuhua engulfed you into a hug, “We’re going to be just fine Y/n.”
With the reassurance from your friends, your worries began to fade slowly. They were right, the team was at least as good as Soyeon’s so why should you worry. You slowly let go of the hug and put your hands in your pockets.
“Besides, Chaeyoung will give us her captain prep talk anyway,” Minnie chuckled, you and Shuhua following along.
“Right, I almost forgot,” You turned your head away, a nervous smile on your face.
You hated prep talks merely for the fact that they almost always didn’t really help you and you thought it was a waste of time but maybe it was going to be different this time.
“You’re the vice-captain, maybe you could give us an encouraging talk instead. You know for variety,” Shuhua suggested.
You chuckled, “Variety of course…but maybe I can ask Chaeyoung. I’m sure it’ll be okay.”
The three of you agreed and short comfortable silence fell over you. Until you heard your name being called from behind you. Turning around, Soyeon came into your view. You only heard whispers from Minnie and Shuhua before they quickly disappeared to leave you alone.
“What’s wrong?” You asked, tilting your head to the side.
She didn’t say anything but stepped closer before wrapping her arms around your neck, pulling you close. You wanted to turn away before you heard her whisper, “I’m sorry…”
Tears began to warm your jacket as you wrapped your arms around her in an attempt to comfort. It pained you to see her this way but part of you was saying that it was Soyeon’s fault in the first place.
“It’s okay,” You mumbled, “But we need to talk things out right now.”

A/N: Happy Halloween
Tumblr media
“We need to talk Y/n.”
You knew Soyeon was right but you couldn’t bring yourself to even think about what happened yesterday. On your side there was nothing to regret the kiss you two shared but the fact that she still hadn’t told you how she felt scared you.
“Why?” You asked as you finished your makeup for Jennie’s Halloween party.
“Because I can’t sleep like this,” Soyeon answered, standing in the bathroom door.
You sighed, pushing yourself from the sink, “Look, I know we shouldn’t have done this but I also don’t regret it. I have absolutely no clue how you feel about this and the fact that you won’t tell me is driving me crazy so don’t tell me we need to talk.”
“Y/n-“ she was interrupted by your doorbell.
You stepped past her and walked down the stairs so you could open the door. A black-haired girl was revealed and a smile spread across your face.
“Y/n it’s great to see you!” Hyejin smiled before she wrapped you in a hug.
“I know I’ve missed you,” you responded as your face buried into her neck.
“I like your costume,” Hyejin remarked as she looked you up and down.
You chuckled, “Oh please, it’s nothing out of the ordinary but Jennie kind of forced me to wear something.”
You watched Hyejin chuckle, “I see your new friends treat you right.”
“You look amazing yourself Hwasa,” you smiled before you stepped out and closed the door.
What you didn’t notice was Soyeon who clenched her jaw as she watched the two of you interact. She knew Hyejin as one of the older players in middle school and never really minded the fact that you’re much closer to her, until now. She didn’t know why she was feeling this way, you were her best friend, you have been for years but something had changed and she needed to figure out when it started.
***
Jennie had greeted you two at the door, immediately taking the chance to throw some sweets against your head. Her house was actually decorated really well, the rainy atmosphere outside only strengthening the mood.
“It’s great here,” Hwasa remarked.
“It is,” You halfheartedly answered.
You were staring at your reflection in the mirror or the lack of. At first you thought Jennie had bought it for the party but after she’d told you that this mirror always hang there, you started to question your appearance.
“Are you alright Y/n?” Hyejin asked, putting a hand on your shoulder.
“I..am, don’t worry,” you responded quickly.
“So…can I tell the coach that you’ll play on the team for the next season?” She continued to ask.
You sat there for a second before answering, “You can, I’m happy to play for him.”
You watched her nod before someone tapped your shoulder.
“Jennie?” You questioned as she pulled you into an empty room. It was dark, only a little lamp that kept going out letting you see glimpses of your friend. Like a perfect horror movie scene.
“I know what you did,” she explained with a frown.
“What?”
“You kissed Soyeon!” Jennie clarified, lightly shoving your shoulder.
“I did, what’s the deal?” You questioned, rubbing your arm.
“The deal is that I’m afraid she’s gonna hurt you Y/n,” Jennie spoke with a softer tone.
“She kind of already did,” you murmured.
“What?”
Jennie’s face darkened but quickly grew caring as she put a hand on your shoulder, “We’re always there for you, you know that.”
You nodded with a smile and took her hand in yours, “I know darling.”
Jennie started to laugh as she shoved you once again. “Quit your bullshit Y/n!”
***
The rest of the evening went by peacefully as you and Hyejin continued to catch-up about each other’s lives. You also talked to Jennie and the rest of the team a lot, it was the first time after your victory.
“By the way,” Jennie started, “The mirror.”
“Did you lie to me Jennie?” You teased with a smirk as you were about to leave.
“Kind of, the was always a mirror hanging there but I changed it for the party,” she explained, scratching her neck.
“So I’m not the next Dracula?” You asked with cocky smile.
"Ugh, no you jackass," Jennie responded with her infamous eye-rolling.
You chuckled and walked down the stairs. To say this halloween was quite ordinary would be an underestimatement but it also brought something good along, a place in Korea's national junior volleyball team and the clarification that you're not the next Dracula.
Right?

Heartbeat | Ep. 5

A/N: I’m introducing a new character in this chapter and there’s a change in the POV, it’s now written in second person view:)
Tumblr media
Music.
You always loved how easily it could hypnotize you. How the soft notes on a piano could make you forget your surroundings or how the strings of a guitar awake whole other worlds inside your mind. Music was always an escape, from family, friends and sometimes even from volleyball.
Of course, the sport had good grip on your heart and made you feel like an eagle, free in the sky and able to do things entirely your way. But sometimes it could also let you fall into a trance where nothing else mattered and that certainly wasn’t good for your own health. Sitting in your room or somewhere your comfortable while softly humming to music or playing an instrument yourself always helped you get out of these situations.
It started even before you started to throw the volleyball into the air, when you began to show interest in your father’s guitar. Often you had asked him how it worked and what exactly created those noises that seemed to sooth every of your childish moods. Your father had eventually given up and began to teach you the instrument.
All these years of training lead to where you were now, sitting under a tree with your guitar in your arms. Your hands were still shaking from euphoria, even after three days of winning the first round of the nationals. It felt surreal when you thought back, a deja-vu. Shuhua had taken the chance to get the last point you needed to win exactly the way you did two years earlier. You were proud of your friend. She had proven herself once and for all.
You grabbed your phone from your left and looked at the notes you had written at home and taken a picture of, not wanting to disfigure the paper you had so carefully written in your room after your first official win with a volleyball club in middle school.
The sounds of the guitar strings floated through the air as you played the notes from your phone. Some passengers began to listen quietly, not wanting to disturb you. Too engulfed in your music, you didn’t notice when someone sat in front of you. Only the humming of her voice let your eyes wander up to her face shortly before you looked back at your phone screen.
“What are you doing here?” You asked as you continued to pull the strings of your guitar.
A chuckle emerged from the woman in front of you but she didn’t answer, focused on listening to your song.
You finished the song about a minute later, putting your instrument right beside you. Once again you looked up to the woman, a smile now plastered on your face.
“Do you want to talk to me now?”
“You seemed so peaceful, I didn’t want to disturb that,” Chaeyoung answered.
You let out a laugh, it wasn’t mocking and she knew that, “Well, thank you for that but I still don’t know what brought you here.”
“I wanted to ask you something…” Chaeyoung began as her gaze shifted to the birds sat on the meadow.
You raised your eyebrow, awaiting the woman’s answer. A few seconds went by and you placed your arms behind yourself to enjoy the sun through your coloured sunglasses.
“What is it with you and that setter from All-Net? I overheard you talking to Jennie and Shuhua about her but you never really mentioned her in front of the team.”
You looked down to her again as your expression shifted. Crossing your legs, you leaned over to her and explained, “She’s a childhood friend of mine. We often played together before my family moved here and she’s also the reason I started to play volleyball.”
Chaeyoung nodded, watching you rip a few strings of grass from the ground. You knew she wasn’t entirely satisfied with your answer but you chose to keep quiet and wait for her next answer.
“By the way.” She spoke once again, You’re really good at playing the guitar, I didn’t think you’d do anything besides volleyball.”
“Music was always a passion of mine. My father taught to play the guitar and I also learned how to play the piano but I always come back to my guitar,” you chuckled.
“Is that why it’s rumored that you’ll study music and not play volleyball professionally?”
You shrugged, “I’ll definitely study music so that’s not just a rumor but I don’t if I’ll ever play professionally after school.”
“That sounds like you.”
You threw the grass strings in your hand at Chaeyoung while laughing in victory. She began to laugh as well before moving to push your shoulders to the ground, making you fall right backwards. Your friend straddled you, both of laughing.
“Your so evil,” she playfully complained as she thee soft punches to my shoulders and chest.
“Be honest you love me for that,” you smirked, catching her arms to stop her harmless punching.
You were silent for a moment, gazing to Chaeyoung’s eyes as she did the same. It wasn’t long until she started giggling again. You gently pushed her off you so that she was laying next to you.
“There’s actually another reason I came here today,” the woman next to you admitted as she closed her eyes.
You hummed, watching the clouds floating by. A few hours must have passed since you came here as the sun will set soon.
“What was the other reason you came here?” You finally asked, looking over to her.
“I wanted to spend some time with you. It’s been a few days since we won but you didn’t hang out with us.”
You chuckled before smiling at your friend, “So you missed me?”
“I did,” Chaeyoung answered before she stood up again.
You followed her movements, grabbing your phone and your guitar in the process.
“You need a ride home?” You questioned when you looked at the time.
“Yes please then I won’t have to take the bus,” she sighed, pleased with my proposal.
***
“I’m home!” You yelled as you took off your jacket.
When no answer came, you decided to walk into the living room. Felix sat on the couch and a bag of chips was placed in his lap. His eyes were glued to the TV as some series played.
“Are you deaf or something?” You asked, turning down the volume.
“No, I just wasn’t in the mood to answer you.”
You shook your head and sat down next to him. “Where are mum and dad?”, you questioned seconds later.
“Mum’s still in the office and dad is getting some groceries,” Felix explained.
He handed you the chips and reached for the TV remote to play the next episode. For once, you focused on the show playing but your mind felt empty. Chaeyoung’s question had set something free. You never really thought about it if you were honest but you realized that time was flying by and that you’ll be forced to decide in a few months.
“By the way,” Felix interrupted your thoughts, his eyes glued to the TV. “There was someone on the phone for you,” he casually mentioned as he took his bag of chips back to place it onto his lap.
“I’ve been sitting here for 20 minutes and now you decide to tell me that I missed a phone call?” You asked, hastily standing up.
“Well, it wasn’t my fault you missed that call so don’t come at me,” He answered as he picked up chips from the bag.
You shook your head and walked up the stairs to your room. The beeping of your phone got into your ears as soon as you rounded the corner to your room, making you sprint the rest of the way.
You picked the phone off your desk and answered, “Hello?”
“Hey, haven’t heard your voice in an eternity,” a husky voice spoke through your phone.
Your breath was suddenly stuck in your throat. It was true, the owner of the voice belonged to your past so you wondered what the reason she called was.
“H-How are you doing?” You asked, sitting down on the bed with a smile.
“Oh well, the coach wanted me to call you after he saw you playing in the nationals and he wants me to tell you that he wants you on his team. Someone must’ve told him that we played together some time ago.”
“Some time ago? It’s been 3 years Hwasa.”
“Like I said.” She responded, “Some time ago.” Though she chuckled at her words, you could hear sadness lacing her voice. Maybe she misses you just as much as you missed her.
“So are we gonna meet up or do you want to try to recruit me over the phone?” You asked, wanting to decrease the tension.
“I don’t think that’ll work,” she admitted. “Besides, I still have something to do but I’m in town for Halloween tomorrow, maybe we could meet then.”
“I could bring you as a guest to Jennie’s party. Maybe we could also catch up there.”
Hwasa was chuckling again, a pleasant sound thanks to the huskiness of her voice. “Alright, just make sure to pick me up in time.”
“Where exactly?” You questioned. “Where should I pick you up I mean.”
“I have a better idea, how about I’ll come over to your house around 8pm then we can go together,” she answered.
“Okay so I won’t have to pick you up?”
“No, you told me where you’d move before you left so I should find it.”
You unconsciously nodded even though she couldn’t see you over the phone, “Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Right and Y/n…” her voice stopped you from hanging up the phone. “You can still call me Hyejin, nothing’s changed.”
It was her who hang up the phone just as she finished her sentence. Nothing has changed, you didn’t know how these words were able to leave her lips this lightly. You hadn’t seen or heard of each other in three years, not that your relationship was different from other players of your middle school team but in the end, Hyejin taught you more than any coach ever did and you were thankful for that. Now, the coach of the national team wants you to play for him after he saw you just a few days ago.
“Everything alright?”
Soyeon’s voice interrupted your thoughts. Your hand clenched around your phone as you stepped in front of her.
With a smile you answered, “I did it.”
It took your friend a few seconds to figure out what you could possibly mean but once she did her hand wrapped around your neck and brought you into a hug.
“I’m so proud of you,” she whispered, her face deep in your neck.
Your own arms wrapped around her waist as you closed your eyes. An invitation to the national volleyball team was the dream of almost everyone who played volleyball and now, you were one of the people chosen to finally represent your country in international tournaments.
You pulled away, not realizing how close your faces actually were. Time seemed to stop as you kept gazing into her eyes when suddenly Soyeon’s hands wrapped around your neck again to pull you in. It happened fast and your mind went blank. Your eyes closed as you began to kiss her back.
Only a few seconds or minutes later, you couldn’t tell anymore, both of you finally pulled away, horror painted on both of your faces. You stepped backwards as your hand ran through your hair while both of you were panting.
“What have we done?”

“Dad look, it’s Y/n!”
The excited clapping of the young child who sat on one of the bleachers let a smile appear on my face. I waved to them, laughing when the child hid behind their father in embarrassment.
“Look it’s Y/n!” Jennie mocked in a slightly higher voice after she appeared behind me. I rolled my eyes before I put a hand on Jennie’s shoulder,
“At least I have some solo fans Ms. Kim.”
“Can you stop your nonsense for five minutes and get your asses over here?” Chaeyoung called over, careful not to attract any attention of her use of words.
Intrigued by Chaeyoung who normally had a very clean mouth in public, Jennie and jogged over to the bench where the rest of the team prepared for the next part of the match. We had one the first round, scoring 25:17 and for now, it seems to be an easy win for our team. One of my favorite things about volleyball though, is how fast a game can turn around. Especially as the team’s captain and ace, I would call myself cocky and even pretty arrogant sometimes but that doesn’t change the amount of respect that I have for any of our opponents.
“Before you get out on the field again, I want you to remember not to underestimate them,” the coach started, his eyes focused on the fans on the bleachers behind us. “We may have higher standards which can guarantee us an easy win but we also have our weak points. Don’t go out on that field if you think you’re superior because in the end…you’re nothing without your teammates.”
His words sounded harsh to anyone who didn’t know about our team’s story but we knew better. We knew how fast G-Dragon and his team lost their title as best Highschool volleyball team of their generation. They lost to their arrogance against other teams. I didn’t want that to happen to us, I want to play in the best team of my time…but I want to archive that through hard work and the necessary respect for other teams and players who know better than I do.
With all of these thoughts on the back of my mind, I stepped back onto the field. My teammates got into their position as well while my eyes were piercing into those of the opposing captain, she was a setter like Chaeyoung and Soyeon, a very talented at that but I couldn’t help but notice how she always seemed to hesitate before the ball touched the palm of her hands. A whistle got my attention just seconds later, the second part of the game began.
Most of my senses seemed to be sharpened as my eyes chased the ball in search of a good attack. Our opponents played right into our hands, the left corner of the field. Though, it wasn’t unknown that hitting from the left corner was one of my specialties, almost every hit I got collided with the ground.
My eyes met Chaeyoung’s for a split second, making me immediately realize what she was up to. In a few fast steps, I managed to get ahead of the blockers on the other side of the net. It might’ve been the first game in the tournament but I already felt different as my hand came in contact with the ball. Almost like time had slowed down to give me the perfect moment to attack. The ball thundered to the ground, much faster than any of the players could dive after it.
It was only one of many points to come but I already felt special. If everyone on the team gives their all throughout the games, I’m sure we’ll have more than a decent chance to win, just like every newspaper in the city predicted.
I stepped back to my position and with a quick nod from Chaeyoung and thumbs up from Minnie, everything went blurry. Well, not blurry, in fact, my vision was even more focused than before. It gave me the chance to see every single detail around.
How some fans were focused on a particular player and just how loud it was in the stadium. Some call these sharpened senses some players get while playing, insanity. Others prefer to call it talent. I would call it a mix of both. I’ve heard how people called me insane for keeping up with my training even when a few parts of my body worked against me but also heard how people praise my dedication, saying I would make it far. Insane or talented and perhaps even both, I couldn’t bring myself to care what people called me behind my back. Every time the ball connects with my hand, I feel a spark and this spark alone makes playing worth it, now matter the consequences.
“Unfortunately we weren’t able to see much of the praised captain Y/n Lee until now… The last games were surely exhausting for the Wing Spiker… Maybe we’ll see more in the future.”
A reporter’s voice briefly caught my attention while I was waiting to get back into the court. I didn’t hear much, only the disappointment lacing his voice as he spoke about not seeing any of my special attacks in this game. What does he think I’m doing the whole time? Standing in the way?
“Y/n!” Shuhua muttered. She was standing next to me, a hand immediately wandering to my shoulder when she caught me watching the reporter from the corner of my eyes. “Don’t do anything stupid, we only need three more points.”
“I know and I won’t trust me,” I answered quickly before I took my position on the field.
The game kept its exhausting atmosphere. Our opponents weren’t bad, of course they weren’t, they did make it to the nationals after all. I just felt that the game was too slow with only two points left for the win. Deciding to take things into my own hands, I silently made Chaeyoung understand that the last two points were for me.
The blockers were slightly unfocused, a perfect opportunity for a softer spike, something they won’t see coming. Not only could a softer spike manage to throw them compl out of their mind, it could also mean match point, the point where the game comes to an end. Once again, I rushed towards the net, on the left side. I didn’t focus on my speed but on the height I was able to jump. 275cm, a record I set for myself a few months ago, would be high enough to get a good ankle of the the side of the court.
One side of the crowd began to cheer as I jumped higher than I intended, effectively surprising me. Still, I spiked the ball through the blockers on the other side and stumbled backwards, panting as I realized how high I actually jumped. 3 meters or even higher? I couldn’t keep thinking about it as our match point was announced.
The last point to win this match which I thought should’ve been mine, went away to Shuhua who had ultimately proven herself for a first year in one of the best teams right now. I excitedly cheered and clapped as I knew how much Shuhua had dreamed of this. I was on the same position two years ago, nervous and anticipating whats to come after I spiked the last ball of the game over the net. Sure, when I look back on it now, I would laugh at how bad this spike actually was but that’s how I knew I had grown since then.
“What a great game ladies and gentlemen, once again the volleyball club of South Bay High defeated their opponents of Oakwood school for girls. We hope to see for the next game…”
The reporter who announced our win kept talking as our team went into a hug. All of us were panting and laughing at our win. Surroundings faded before we slowly left the field, thanking and cheering at our fans.
“You were amazing.” I smiled at Shuhua who had my arm around her shoulder as she took a sip off her water bottle.
“Weren’t you the one who had all eyes on them?” She asked, ignoring my compliment.
I rolled my eyes before answering, “Well yes but this was your first game in the nationals. When I had spike my first match ball in the nationals, my knees were trembling from my nervousness so I wouldn’t have been mad if you fucked it up.”
“Ah yes.” Shuhua grinned, “I was better than you and now you want to play it down, got it.”
“I would never, believe me,” I said. “But you’re right, you were better than me and I’m proud of you for that.”
Laughing filled the halls as we celebrated our win. The coach was happy and thanked us for the great performance. My own thoughts however, always went back to Soyeon, I had left her alone with a message that gave me mixed feelings but we would visit her father in half an hour.
———————————————————————-
“So…you’ve won?” Soyeon asked as I drove the car along to the streets to the hospital.
“We won.” I corrected her, “25:17 and 24:26 which I think isn’t bad but we could have played faster in order to keep the others more occupied.”
I saw Soyeon fidgeting with the flowers in her hands as she let out a laugh, “You won two sets in a row and still think about going faster?”
“Yeah, you know I always think about doing things better.”
“You’re a monster Y/n.” The woman next to me smirked before we pulled up in front of the hospital.
The halls were filled with patient and crying people, both tears of joy and pain. I was holding the flowers in my arms as Soyeon asked for her father’s room.
“Come on,” she nudged me a few seconds later before taking the flowers back to her.
I trailed behind her, my mind nearly blank as I took in everything around me. Every hall we passed was coloured in the same dull white and the floors were painted a light blue, overall it looked like a normal hospital. We stopped at one of the doors at the end of what seemed to be the third floor.
Soyeon immediately rushed to her father while I silently closed the door and leaned against the wall. The atmosphere was almost suffocating.
“Thank you for getting her here.”
Soyeon’s mother stood next to me. I was startled as I didn’t even realize how she got there, my mind focused on the woman who silently talked to her father. The flowers lay on the table next to the bed, forgotten the moment their eyes had met.
“It’s the least I can do for her,” I answered before I ran a hand through my hair.
An quiet sigh left her lips before she continued, “Not every friend would do that Y/n, I think both of you need to realize that before it’s too late.”
Then she left. My gaze was still focused on the scene in front of me but my mind was long gone. What did Soyeon’s mother mean? Wasn’t it normal to be there for a best friend like this?
I closed my eyes as I finally noticed how exhausted I actually was after the match. The room went silent, for me at least. Reflections of the match took over my vision and left me in a deep state of thinking.
This match let me fly high…but perhaps the next will give the chance to go even higher.

Episode III
Tumblr media
The ball flew directly over my head, creating a small breeze. I was focused on Chaeyoung who was observing the field, trying to find out if she should toss the ball to Shuhua or me. It was the last training before the first match tomorrow. Everyone was tense, some were excited to finally play in the nationals, some were nervous about making a good appearance. Just recently, it was announced the nation’s junior team coach would be watching most of the games to choose new players.
When my eyes met Chaeyoung’s, I knew which way I had to take. Sprinting to the left corner of the field, everything began to blur and time nearly came to a stop. My eyes met Chaeyoung’s again as I jumped into the air, noticing Jennie who prepared herself for my spike. I brought my left hand up after I recognized the course of the ball which was on its way in front of me. All it took was a fast hit with my left hand to spike the ball past Jennie even though she desperately tried to block me as our side of the team had match ball. I stumbled backwards and panted, closing my hand in a fist. Spiking with my left hand wasn’t one of my easiest moves but proved itself to be worthy every time I used it.
“Alright guys,” the coach interrupted, clapping his hands. “That was great work but you should go home and rest. We’ll meet tomorrow at 9 am to go through our strategy for the last time.”
I left the field to get something to drink, my pants fading while I caught my breath. The bench seemed like a decent place to rest for a few minutes. A waving in front of my face shifted my attention to the person next to me, Jennie.
“You zoned off Y/n,” she laughed as she took my bottle to take a sip herself.
I chuckled and looked into her eyes, “Am I not allowed to?”
“Not when I’m talking to you, no,” she joked before she handed me my drink again.
“I’m very sorry your highness, I hope you can give me another chance so I can prove myself worthy of your time,” I answered with a smirk.
“I hate you Y/n, did you know that?” Jennie sighed.
“You make that pretty clear sometimes.”
A shove against my shoulder nearly had me falling off the bench before Jennie started to laugh.
“What’s going on with you?” Minnie asked, walking towards us along with the rest of our friends.
“I bet they’re just annoying each other again,” Shuhua chimed in behind her.
Jennie smiled before she argued, “That’s not the truth! We were just talking.”
I chuckled, nodding as I pretended to agree with my friend, “Jennie’s right, we weren’t annoying each other.”
With one last chuckle, I pulled myself up from the bench. “Alright, I still have to do some things, see you tomorrow,” I waved before I left the gym.
Felix was waiting in front of my car, a big smile on his face, he’d asked me to drive him to a friend’s house for the next few days to which I surprisingly agreed. “Y/n, how was practice?”
“It was good but why are you being so nice?” I raised my eyebrow while I opened the door to the driver’s seat.
“Why do you always question me when I’m nice to you?” He asked, making himself comfortable in the seat next to me.
I started the car and focused on the road before I answered after a minute, “Because you’re my little brother who has made it his hobby to annoy the absolute shit out of me.”
“I mean it is fun,” he shrugged. “But I like being nice to you sometimes.”
“Of course and my favorite subject is math in the middle of summer,” I replied, smiling when Felix started laughing.
-
“There you go,” I announced, stopping the car in front of the house Felix wanted me to drive him.
He got out of his seat, “Thanks Y/n, you’re the best.”
I waved him off with a smile before I watched him get inside.
-
It was around 4 pm when I had finally made it home. The book that was half-read and placed on my shelf left its place for the first time in what must’ve been weeks if not months. I lay down on the bed and began to drift into a different reality.
My peace was only interrupted when my father called me. It seemed serious as he told me to hurry with a stern voice.
“What’s wrong?” I asked my mother when I got into the kitchen.
“Someone is at the door,” she frowned making me slightly nervous.
A figure much shorter than me could be made out before I even opened the door.
“What… are you alright?” I asked when I found Soyeon standing outside, her gaze on the ground.
After a deep breath, she answered quietly, “We need to talk.”
I nodded and opened the door further before I guided her to my room. It was dead silent for the first minutes while we both sat on my bed.
I grabbed her hand when I noticed her slight trembling. “what happened?” I whispered.
“My father, he…”
My breath hitched as I awaited Soyeon’s answer in fear of knowing what she’ll say next.
“He was in a car accident,” she whispered.
“I-I’m sorry that’s horrible,” I stuttered in search of a way to comfort her.
“The doctors aren’t sure if he will survive,” she continued, her voice shaking so slightly that I wouldn’t have noticed if she hadn’t been right in front of me.
A sigh shifted her attention back to me. I didn’t look into eyes, not wanting to see the tears shining in them. An appropriate answer was hard to find in a situation like that. I chose to pull her close, leaning her head on my shoulder.
“I’m here for you,” I told her gently when I noticed how she started to curl up in my arms. We stayed silent and I began to feel her tears soaking through my shirt.
I didn’t wipe her tears away that night, Soyeon had every right to cry. Instead, I held her in my arms and made sure the pain she was in would become at least a little bit bearable to her.
-
A phone call woke me up. Luckily, I was fast enough to answer before it woke Soyeon who was sleeping with her head on my chest, her cheeks shining from the dried tears. I made sure to be gentle as I got out of the bed.
“What can I do for you?” I questioned after I saw that Soyeon’s mother called.
“I wanted to ask if Soyeon is still with you,” she replied, her voice raspy as it would break at any point.
“She is,” I answered. “I-If there’s anything I can do just tell me. I’d be more than happy to help,” I offered, turning around when I heard Soyeon shifting in the bed.
“That is very nice of you dear. Actually, there is something you could do,” she explained.
I stepped next to the bed and pulled the blanket over Soyeon’s shoulder while I listened to her mother.
“If my parents already agreed then I’ll tell her that,” I smiled, stroking Soyeon’s hair before I hang up the phone.
7:15, meant that I still had enough time to stay in bed for another fifteen minutes and get to our gym in time.
“What time is it?” Soyeon asked, startling me as I was lost in thoughts.
“Oh, it’s 7:15,” I replied quickly after I pulled my fingers from her hair, careful not to hurt her.
“Where’s my phone?” She started to ramble.
“Soyeon,” I tried to intervene only to be hushed by her while she continued to look for her phone.
“Wait a second.” I grabbed her hand, effectively stilling her movements.
“Your mother called ten minutes ago, your father is in a stable condition, at least at the moment,” I explained, my voice fading when I got to the last words.
Her slight smile was all I needed to continue, “I’ll drive you to the hospital after my match or you’ll walk alone and I’ll follow later. You choose.”
“I guess it would be better if you’ll drive me, maybe I can get some flowers before,” she replied.
“She also said that you should stay here the next days,” I said, standing to get a shirt from my closet.
“Why?”
I turned around with a slightly confused expression. “I don’t know, maybe your grandparents want to stay with your parents and help them out.”
“Yeah but I could help as well,” she mumbled.
“I’m sure they want you to focus on the tournament. Besides, I’ll drive you to them whenever you want,” I answered, handing her a new shirt as well.
“Y/n?”
I looked into her eyes, walking back to kneel in front of her after I recognized the sparkling in her eyes.
“Did she say he was fully stable?” She asked, not looking at me.
“She said he’s stable at the moment,” I replied truthfully.
“So there’s still a possibility that he’ll…” She didn’t finish her sentence, making me let out a deep breath.
“I’m afraid there is. But I’ve met him before, he’ll make it,” I assured earning a small smile.
“I’ll hope your right,” Soyeon muttered before she wrapped her arms around my shoulders, her head in the crook of my neck.
“Good luck with your match,” she whispered.
My hands found her cheeks as the sunlight reflected in her eyes.
“Thank you,” I cooed.
“And don’t you dare come back to tell me you’ve lost,” she smirked.
“I won’t,” I announced confidently, this win would be for her.
-
My thoughts were stuck on Soyeon and her family but I was determined to win this match. Not just for me and my teammates but also her father. I already heard the shouts of the fans and the sound of a volleyball connecting with the ground when I walked around the corner of the stadium we were playing.
“I’m gonna win this, for Soyeon,” I smirked to myself.
At the end of the day, the feeling of the ball colliding with my hand sparked something inside me. Something that made me want to rule the whole world just by spiking the ball past a blocker.
But unexpected situations can throw everyone out of their lives.

Episode II
Tumblr media
“So, what are your plans for today?” My father asked when I sat beside him on the couch.
I looked over to him with a smile before I answered, “I’m gonna get ready to pick up Soyeon in a few minutes and after that I’m going to the park with Chaeyoung.”
“Seems like you have a lot on your plate today,” he chuckled, “but haven’t you been out with Chaeyoung yesterday?”
“Yeah but that was with the team, today it’s just the two of us,” I explained, taking a sip from my coffee which stood on the table before I continued the conversation.
My alarm clock rang, reminding me that I had to start driving now. I said goodbye to my parents and told them that I’d be back late today since I didn’t know how long I’d be out today.
My mother gave me my car keys and told me to enjoy my day before I headed to the car.
The ride took about 45 minutes and I was lucky that there wasn’t any bad traffic. It was quiet in the car until my phone rang, I put on speaker to focus on the road before me.
“What’s up?” I asked.
“I just wanted to ask if we’re still going to the park today,” Chaeyoung explained, the noise in the background letting me know that she was at home.
“Of course, why’d you ask?”
I could hear her sigh before she replied, “Jennie told me that you’re picking up Soyeon for the tournament, I thought you’d rather do something with her.”
“I’m picking up Soyeon because she wants to visit her grandparents who live here,” I explained, “I would’ve told you if I couldn’t go.”
“Alright then, I’ll see you later,” Chaeyoung said goodbye.
“I’ll see you,” I answered before I hung up the phone.
I arrived about 5 minutes later and stopped the car for Soyeon to get in. It took her a while to get her things in the trunk of my car which slightly annoyed me because I knew that she was doing this to tease me.
“Finally done shortie?” I smirked when she sat next to me in the passenger seat.
“Yeah, finally done,” she answered, choosing to ignore my nickname.
The first ten minutes of the ride were quiet as I was focused on the road before me and Soyeon was lost in her thoughts while she looked out of the window.
I saw her shifting in her seat from the corner of my eyes before she spoke up, “You know Y/n…”
“What is it?” I asked, my eyes not leaving the road.
“I saw the video of the qualification finals,” Soyeon started, making me raise my eyebrows.
“So?”
“You and the setter, what is her name?” She questioned.
“Chaeyoung, why?” I replied when we rounded a corner.
“You two seem pretty close,” Soyeon muttered and turned away from me.
“We get along well and I love the way she sets which I guess makes us a great team,” I explained.
Soyeon huffed in response which confused me if I’m being honest but I chose not to ask her about it.
We arrived about half an hour later and I dropped Soyeon off at her grandparents house.
“Have fun,” I said, giving her a smile.
“Thanks,” she chuckled as she disappeared in the door.
I drove to Chaeyoung’s house. Without Soyeon in it, there was only the music in the background that was making a bit noise.
“Hey Chae,” I greeted when I knocked on her door.
She gave me a warm smile before she hugged me, “Hey, I’m so happy we get to do something alone now,” she said.
“Me too, should we go?” I replied before we started to walk down the street.
There was this new tension between me and Chaeyoung, it wasn’t uncomfortable or anything but I wasn’t used this warm feeling I got when she laughed or even just smiled.
“Y/n?” I heard her voice, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“What’s wrong?” I answered, looking down to meet her eyes.
“It’s quite cold outside, don’t you think?” She asked.
“You think so? I think it’s pretty warm,” I smiled before I gave her my jacket, “Take this.”
Chaeyoung put on my jacket before we continued to walk towards one of the bridges in the park.
“It’s so beautiful here,” She smiled, her eyes sparkling, something I only saw when she really got into one of our games like she did three days ago.
“Indeed,” I agreed, stepping closer to her.
Chaeyoung looked up to me before asking, “Are you excited about the next game as well?”
“I definitely am, I mean, we still have four days to prepare but I can feel my fingers tingling at the thought,” I answered.
We decided to warch the water flowing unser us, a comfortable silence surrounding us.
Sun had already started to set when we continued to wander through the park for a good two hours.
It must’ve been around 12 am when we walked the streets back to her house, just enjoying each other’s presence as we talked about the evening.
I said goodbye when we reached her door, giving Chaeyoung a hug before I walked down the steps towards the car.
“Y/n wait!” She called out when I was about to get in.
“Your jacket,” Chaeyoung clarified when I raised an eyebrow.
“Keep it,” I smiled, “It looks better on you.”
She nodded and went back into the house as I drove out of the driveway.
I saw Soyeon walking down the street not too far from my house. I rolled down the window before I gave her a smirk when she noticed me.
“What are you doing here? I thought you were with your grandparents,” I asked.
“I wanted to practice my setting at the beach,” she answered while she kept walking beside the car.
“Get in, I’m sure you need a spiker,” I smiled, opening the door for her.
“I’m not allowed to go with strangers,” she smirked before she got in anyway.
“Wow, good girl listened to her parents,” I laughed, the faint blush on her cheeks going unnoticed by me.
“Shut up and drive,” she commanded as I started the engine.
I laughed and did as she said, driving down the street. The beach was the perfect place to practice especially at night when nearly nobody was there. Luckily, it didn’t take long to get there with the nearly empty streets and the fact that I knew a shortcut to a hidden part of the beach. It was surrounded by trees and the wind wasn’t strong, perfect to play volleyball.
“There we are,” I announced as I got out, the smell of the ocean already filling my nose.
“How did you know about this place?” Soyeon asked as she came up behind me.
“I lived here for years, genius,” I smirked as I took the ball from her hands.
“Hey, give that back!” She called out before she started to chase me around in the sand.
Laughter filled the air as we ran around, trying to avoid running into each other’s arms. Even though she was significantly smaller than me, she caught up fairly fast, catching the ball to finally start practicing. Time seemed to fly as we tried out different attacks we learned over the years. Some of them worked perfectly as we performed them a lot when we had the time to do so, some other didn’t work as good but that didn’t stop us in the moment. The moon stood high over the quiet ocean when we finished the game and decided to sit down in the warm sand and talked over the most random things.
We played in the same team during middle school before my parents decided to move for my mother’s new job. At first, I hated everything, new people, new school and the new volleyball club but the thing that disturbed me the most was the fact that I couldn’t play with Soyeon anymore which could easily be seen in the way I played. All of that changed when I met Chaeyoung though, we were clicking instantly and soon played together like we did for years.
“You know,” Soyeon mumbled as she leaned her head against my shoulder. “I still miss you. I mean, my teammates are great but it isn’t the same without you, it hasn’t been ever since you left,” she admitted.
I smiled as I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, “You don’t think I miss you like crazy?” I chuckled, “You were the reason I decided to continue to play volleyball and I really don’t think you’ll ever know how thankful I am for that,” I said.
It was true, I always had a talent for volleyball, from my parents point of view but Soyeon was the one who awoke my passion for it.
“That was the nicest thing you ever said to me,” Soyeon smiled before she pulled me up with her.
“Where are we going?” I asked when I followed her.
“Home, I wanna make sure my grandparents don’t call the police and tell them that I’m missing,” she joked, making me laugh.
“Alright, I’ll drop you off,” I smiled before I got into the car with her.

Episode I
Tumblr media
The halls were filled with students who walked past Jennie and me as we made our way to our next classroom.
“Do you plan on doing anything in the evening?” Jennie asked as we rounded the corner which led to the stairs.
“No, my parents are out with some business partners and Felix has a friend over,” I answered.
“That’s good, we thought that it would be cool to celebrate now that it’s Friday,” Jennie explained as we walked up the stairs to the second floor.
“That would be nice. Where should we meet?” I questioned before I reached for the door knob.
“Well, we thought we’d go home to Chaeyoung first, so that we could hang out before we go out,” Jennie explained, sitting down in the chair next to me.
“Did you plan all this without me?” I asked, pretending to be hurt.
“You’re always practicing or you’re bickering with Soyeon which is totally stupid since both of you go to different schools.” Jennie defended our friends and herself with a smirk.
“Let me have my fun with the short one,” I shrugged which made her laugh.
“She’s gonna kill you when she finds out that you called her that,” Jennie chuckled as she but a book on the table.
“We’ll see about that,” I answered, leaning back on my chair after all of the things I needed were placed on the table. “Her team lost once against me and they’ll lose again with your help,” I smirked before our teacher walked through the door, immediately silencing everyone in the room.
The class went by swiftly as I wrote some notes and even raised my hands twice. The teacher explained something about a plague that happened centuries ago but I knew from the beginning that I’ll forget it before I even walked out from the classroom.
“How can they even know how many people died when they have no updated source?” Jennie asked quietly, there were only five minutes left but our teacher continued his unimportant rant over how bad the symptoms were even though he’d never experienced them.
“Same reason you still believe that Chaeyoung didn’t kiss that girl behind the gym. Delusion,” I smiled which earned me a hit against the shoulder.
“You suck Y/n, you realize that right?” Jennie rolled her eyes before the teacher turned to us.
“Girls, I know there just five minutes left but please…at least pretend to listen,” he sighed before he went back to writing something on the board.
-
“Ugh, I’m so glad that was the last class,” Jennie cheered as we left the school building.
“Me too, if anyone tells me one more time that even royalty had to suffer from a sickness, I’ll loose my fucking mind,” I agreed when my phone rang.
“What’s up?” I asked when I answered the call.
“No stupid nickname this time?” Soyeon questioned over the phone.
“Alright, what do you want armrest?” I corrected myself and I could hear Soyeon rolling her eyes.
“Well, my team won the qualifications as well and because the tournament is in yours city, I was wondering if you could pick me up?” She asked.
“Sure,” I smiled as I looked over to Jennie who had a surprised expression on her face.
“Alright, tomorrow ten AM?” Soyeon suggested.
“I see you there,” I answered before I hung up the phone.
Jennie stopped me before we could go further.
“I thought you two hated each other?” Jennie remarked with a confused look on he face.
“We don’t hate each other, we just like to annoy each other,” I corrected as I started to walk towards Chaeyoung who just got out of the gym.
“Got it, your in love but to stupid to admit it,” Jennie smirked and I scoffed in response.
“Whatever,” I waved her off before I went to greet Chaeyoung.
-
“Is Y/n gonna pick you up?” Soojin asked when Soyeon went back to them.
“Yeah, she’s being nice for once,” Soyeon answered.
“I thought you two hated each other,” Lisa said, slightly confused.
“We don’t hate each other, why does everyone think that?” Soyeon whined, already fed up with these rumors.
“You’re always bickering,” Jisoo explained as she put on her jacket, ready to leave.
“That doesn’t mean we hate each other, we just like bickering and it’s never really serious in the first place,” Soyeon argued.
“We understand but you should focus on your setting right now,” Jisoo assured before she handed Soyeon a ball.
“Alright, who wants to go first?” Soyeon questioned before Yuqi lined up to spike the ball.
-
“What movie do you wanna watch?” Chaeyoung asked as she turned on the TV.
“How about Joker?” I suggested before I sat down behind her.
“Good Choice,” Jennie agreed and settled down on the couch as well.
“Joker sounds nice,” Minnie, Shuhua and Miyeon agreed as they entered the room.
“Well then, Joker it is,” Chaeyoung turned on the movie as all of us silently watched, occasionally commenting.
The evening was relaxing, we talked a lot and had a great time. Minnie and Miyeon left first around eleven pm as they still had something to do, Shuhua and Jennie left about two hours later which left me and Chaeyoung alone in the room.
“Y/n?” Chaeyoung whispered.
“What is it?” I answered as I turned my attention to her.
“We’re gonna win this, right?” She quietly smiled.
“We’ll sure as hell do,” I agreed, laughing as she laid her head against my shoulder.
I took a look at the clock, 3:24 am. Chaeyoung was falling into a deep sleep which I decided not to disturb so I just took a blanket and threw it over is two before I closed my eyes as well.
-
“Have you seen Y/n and Chaeyoung?” Shuhua asked Jennie on their way home.
“They looked comfortable, why?” Jennie replied, covering her mouth to hide a yawn.
“Is there anything going on between them?” Shuhua continued, the youngest didn’t seem tired which amazed Jennie every time.
“It wouldn’t be bad if there was anything,” Jennie shrugged.
“What about Soyeon?” Silence fell over both girls before Jennie spoke up again.
“We don’t know what kind of relationship Chaeyoung and Soyeon have with Y/n, we shouldn’t assume anything,” Jennie decided, stopping before the door to her house.
“You’re right, they’ll tell us if anyone’s dating,” Shuhua agreed before she said goodbye to Jennie.

Heartbeat (Prologue)
BLACKPINK | (G)- IDLE x reader (ft. Stray Kids)
Tumblr media
The bright lights of the gym almost blinded my eyes which focused on the fast flying ball.
We had worked long hours to reach the finals of the National Qualifiers.
Many tears were shed, both tears of despair and tears of joy.
My family and a few of my friends said I overworked myself during the time I didn't stop training before midnight.
Again and again I hit the ball and again and again I threw it up in the air to practice my serve.
There were moments when I almost gave up. Moments when I hit the ball out of the window to suppress my anger.
But, in the end, these ups and downs that brought me to this place, to the place where spectators underpinned the shouts of my teammates and where many players can only dream of one day standing in my place and waiting for the ball.
I felt like everyone else could hear my heartbeat before my attention was focused elsewhere:
"Y/n, over here!"
Without much thought, I found the corner of our court side where our setter needed me.
One last deep breath was all I could remember. My attention was solely on the ball as I hit it as hard as I could.
The ball deformed slightly as it collapsed with the ground making a sound almost like thunder.
My eyes fell on the spectators, the turquoise clad half cheering and clapping while the blue adorned fans looked disappointed.
I felt warm sparkle making its way through my hand and when I looked down at it, it was covered with red spots, a sign that I had hit the ball with a lot of force.
I closed my hand into a fist before my teammates almost pulled me to the ground as they tackled me in a hug.
However, it was the words of the reporter commentating on our game that made me realize the most important thing.
"The Finals are won by South Bay High who are now qualified for the National Championships. A well deserved victory, we hope to see more fantastic games from the club in the future!"
We did it.
