so like I said, I work in the tech industry, and it's been kind of fascinating watching whole new taboos develop at work around this genAI stuff. All we do is talk about genAI, everything is genAI now, "we have to win the AI race," blah blah blah, but nobody asks - you can't ask -

What's it for?

Why would anyone want this?

I sit in so many meetings and listen to genuinely very intelligent people talk until steam is rising off their skulls about genAI, and wonder how fast I'd get fired if I asked: do real people actually want this product, or are the only people excited about this technology the shareholders who want to see lines go up?

like you realize this is a bubble, right, guys? because nobody actually needs this? because it's not actually very good? normal people are excited by the novelty of it, and finance bro capitalists are wetting their shorts about it because they want to get rich quick off of the Next Big Thing In Tech, but the novelty will wear off and the bros will move on to something else and we'll just be left with billions and billions of dollars invested in technology that nobody wants.

and I don't say it, because I need my job. And I wonder how many other people sitting at the same table, in the same meeting, are also not saying it, because they need their jobs.

OC-tober day 3 & 4: old oc + under-appreciated oc

Picked Olive for the first one because she's my first "OC", created to be included in the phenomenon of "having an oc" online when I first joined the internet. She doesn't really have any lore, I just made her because I thought she was cute. I imagined her as serious and work-obsessed but a little shy I guess?

Considering Ion as "under-appreciated" by myself, since she's been totally overshadowed in her own project by Mack, mostly because I could never really settle on a personality or story for her, and now I'm kind of borrowing the "mad scientist" aesthetic for a different character and I fear there may be naught remaining and she will fade into obscurity...

OC-Tober Day 9 - Relationships

Hello! So, I woke up super late today and I'm art/creativity blocked today, nothin' seems to be clicking. so uhhh i'm gonna write little blurbs about some of my favorite relationships across Shattered of all types!

Blaze, Moon, Zane - they're best friends, the group that started it all, initially meeting in their school dorms for the first time and clicking pretty quickly, they work as a team in and out of school until graduation, where life takes them elsewhere. however, their bonds will still connect them

Zane, Redd - rivals to friends, in school they butt heads a lot and are kinda nasty to each other but by the end Redd realizes his motivations for aligning with his old friends were to fit in, and Zane and him become close, eventually working together after school ends as private detectives (who may do a bit of combat on the side when need arises) initially to work towards finding Blaze, who vanished without notice

Kraltos, Ahkreos - best friends, have known each other forever, but grew to be very different in their teenage years, Ahkreos being very fun-loving and going with whatever called to him. Kraltos was much more serious and focused on following the rules, trying to be neat and only use his magic when needed. As they grew older, they rubbed off on each other and became more alike, although Kraltos is still more serious than Ahkreos.

S'mar, Ruby - Ruby met S'mar on a trip to the region of Zetsun, and joined him with her brother Azure on his airship for a tour. S'mar was motivated by curiosity about the strangers, especially her brother, but also found her very pretty, and as they talked, they found a mutual attraction. Azure reluctantly agreed to travel with them for a while to see the region better and explore, and eventually with the addition of local bar owner Thorn, they had a little crew. The closer Ruby and S'mar got, the more nervous Azure got about them. He was always protective of his sister, and he didn't trust S'mar. Eventually, they admitted their care for each other but Azure stepped in and told Ruby they had to return home. Someday, perhaps, Ruby will return to Zetsun to reunite with S'mar, but who knows what will happen between now and then?

i have more i could ramble about but i'm also super distracted and these few short paragraphs have taken me like 30 minutes and i keep distracting myself, i hope to be more productive on a future day! thanks for reading

OC-tober Day 7 - Likes

Zane, Moon, and Blaze!

i wasn't sure what to do for this until i was sitting in the car and thinking about things i liked and i remembered that the original trio from my world/story all have a different comfort drink, and so i did a little messy page of them together with them. zane likes hot cocoa, moon loves slushies, and blaze has a milkshake! they arent prominently featured but i think that's another part of the day, they are their own likes as well, they're close friends and the time they spend together is more important than any drinks or snacks they may enjoy.

OC-tober Day 6 - Past

this is a collection of random messy doodles of my character Hawk (name change has been pending for years, it used to be Hawkfrost and then i remembered that i got it from warrior cats so i shortened it until i could think of something else)

past is because normally, i draw his post-"death" version, he gets nearly killed and he is revived/kept on eternal life support by an enchanted metal skin that is basically fused to his body. i used today to experiment with hairstyles and stuff also, because i gotta try to actually redesign him to be honest. (sooo many of my ocs are just.. concepts and brief backstories and no designs because designing a character is difficult for me, or extremely basic designs from middle/high school)
