Do you know of any good pain scales that ideally don't include numbers or facial expressions? I personally struggle with ranking pain for a number of reasons.
Unfortunately I don't know any pain scales without numbers because they need some quantitative way to measure pain.
The one I like the best (and I still have complaints. I disagree with 7-8 specifically) is the Mankoski Pain Scale. It makes the most sense to me.

There is a new Chrome extension that detects if a video you’re streaming has a strobe in it, will freeze the video and stick this warning up there until you approve it.

If you're mentally ill, chronically ill or otherwise disabled, do yourself a favor and consciously work to dismantle the "if you're too sick to go to work you're also too sick to be on the computer" mindset which got drilled into most of us during childhood. You don't have to deny yourself joy. You don't have to directly or indirectly punish yourself for not being able to do certain things. It doesn't help anyone. All it does is make you even more miserable than you have to be. So make sure you don't punish yourself for being sick. Make sure you don't subconsciously sabotage yourself with the idea that you have to be punished for not being abled. Make sure you embrace the joy you can find instead of denying yourself out of unnecessary guilt.

i believe in you.
i believe in all the people who are still surviving their own pain…
the kids who have been abused, the teenagers who have had their hearts broken, the people who have been bullied for things they can’t change, the people who feel left out because they’re different, the parents who have lost a child, the lovers who have been hurt, the people who have been assaulted, the people trying to start over, the parents who feel they can’t protect their children, the kids who grew up without a family, the people who can’t come out to the world, the people who go through chronic pain or trauma and don’t give themselves much credit for still going, the teenagers who are told they are worthless, the people who are quietly discrimated against daily and accept it as normal, the people who have tried to take their own lives, the people who cry themselves to sleep, the people who have hated their own bodies, the people who’ve lost everything.
i believe in everyone and anyone who ever tried, who ever decided they could make it another day.

I am. So tired. 😫
Having to use a wheelchair 90% of the time to move is infuriating. Relearning to navigate the world and seeing it from a literal new perspective is really, really shocking. And despite the fact that my legs do not work and my neuromuscular disease has rapidly progressed to the point I thought I wouldn’t be in for at least five years, I may not qualify for disability benefits.
And if I do, I can’t get married. Or have more than $2k in my bank and my medications cost more than that. Or have. A source of income besides less than the poverty wage allotted to me. Because the United States Social Security System is fucked.
But y’all can genuinely help. I’m not asking for money. No one is. We are asking you to interact with a text bot that sends a letter to your senator for you. It takes two minutes. Read this post. Send a text. Help disabled people achieve independence and support.
Public support does help. It’s Disability Pride Month. Show some support. Two minutes of your time. I want this and the post I cited reblogged from each of you. Please, please please. I hate begging but I will do it because I’m that desperate. If you’re not in the US the least you can do is reblog.

Remember to set boundaries and be explicit about what those boundaries are, where they end, and remember to enforce them when you've been made uncomfortable.
