LA TASK ONE: Part One

PART 1: THE BASICS

What is your full name?

"Shiloh Cotton. No middle name—I guess my parents figured one name was enough weight to carry."

Where and when were you born?

"Memphis, Tennessee. May 15, 1989. Taurus season, in case that matters to you."

Who are/were your parents?

"My mom, Thelma Cotton, is a retired nurse. Hardworking, disciplined, and the reason I’m as self-sufficient as I am. My dad, Cleve Cotton, was a blues musician—a wandering spirit. He passed when I was 12, but his music lives on in me."

Do you have any siblings?

"Yeah, one older brother, Rome. He’s an accountant, strait-laced, and methodical. We’re opposites, but he keeps me grounded. He still in Memphis on his Martin Luther King shit."

Where do you live now, and with whom?

"I’ve got a Condo. It’s just me, my sketchpads, and about a hundred pairs of sneakers. Minimalist, industrial vibes—a little too clean, maybe."

What is your occupation?

"Artist and streetwear designer. My brand, Section 8, is about turning struggle into style."

Write a full physical description of yourself.

"I’m 6’2”, around 185 pounds. Black. I keep my hair in neat twists and have brown eyes—sharp, observant. My style? Think pop-culture streetwear. Tattoos on my arms, legs, neck, and torso, mostly abstract designs and symbols that mean something to me. Normal black man tats. No scars—thankfully."

To which social class do you belong?

"Started from Section 8; now I’d say I’m comfortable. Not wealthy, but I don’t have to check my bank account every week."

Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?

"None that I know of, though dust gets me sneezing."

"I can use both them motherfuckers."

What does your voice sound like?

"Smooth, deep, and deliberate. Like I’ve thought about every word before it leaves my mouth."

"My phone, a Sharpie, and a little notebook for sketch ideas."

"I’m a neat freak. My studio looks like a crime scene when I’m working, but I can’t sleep until it’s spotless again."

PART 2: GROWING UP

How would you describe your childhood in general?

"It was equal parts joy and struggle. My mom worked overtime to make sure we had what we needed, and my dad’s music filled the gaps when things felt heavy."

What is your earliest memory?

"Sitting under my dad’s piano, watching his hands move like magic."

How much schooling have you had?

"I finished high school and did a couple of semesters at community college before dropping out to chase my art. Mane that's my brother type shit."

Did you enjoy school?

"Not really. I was more interested in doodling in my notebooks than paying attention to lectures."

Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?

"On the streets and at home. My dad taught me rhythm, my mom taught me discipline, and the world taught me hustle."

While growing up, did you have any role models?

"My dad, for sure. He showed me what passion looked like."

While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?

"We were tight. My mom was strict, but I respected her. My brother and I fought like siblings do, but we’ve always had each other’s backs."

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

"An artist. Always an artist. I lied, I wanted to be Spiderman like shit. Miles Morales really about me."

As a child, what were your favorite activities?

"Drawing, listening to music, and playing basketball at the community center."

As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?

"I was quiet, focused, and stubborn. Always had my eye on the prize. Don't let the prize be ya' bitch, she gone."

As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?

"I wasn’t popular, but I was respected. My friends were mostly other creative kids—skaters, musicians, and dreamers."

When and with whom was your first kiss?

"Summer of ’03. Her name was Tasha, and it was behind the corner store."

Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?

"Nah. I was 17, and it was with a girl named Kiara. We were both figuring things out."

PART 3: PAST INFLUENCES

What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?

"Launching Section 8. It was my way of proving I could turn struggle into something beautiful."

Who has had the most influence on you?

"My dad. His music shaped the way I see the world. Mane, y'all trying to make a nigga sad or some shit?"

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

"Building a brand that resonates with people who’ve been through what I’ve been through."

What is your greatest regret?

"Not spending more time with my dad before he passed. Was too busy in the streets and chasing ass..."

What is the most evil thing you have ever done?

"I ghosted someone who didn’t deserve it---She wanted to give me the world fr. I still feel bad about it."

Do you have a criminal record of any kind?

"No, but I’ve come close."

When was the time you were the most frightened?

"When my mom got sick a few years ago. Thought I was gonna lose her."

What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?

"Tripping on stage during a live art showcase. It was bad. Imagine a 6'5 man nearly face planting in front of a room fool of fine shyt."

If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?

"I’d take more risks sooner. Fear held me back too long. Ready to claim LA Fr."

What is your best memory?

"Selling my first design to someone who truly got it."

What is your worst memory?

"Hearing my dad’s music for the first time after he died. It hit me hard."
