Selfshiptober 2024; Day 1: Confession | Night

Yup! I'm gonna try this out, and hopefully I'll be able to keep up for the whole month! I was originally going to do confession, but it wasn't working well, and I love taking the chance to try and draw a full scene anyway. I had fun!

Grim & Gnarly

The Renaissance Men Came.

Gnarly is having a great time in Hell! He says shit like "there's no difference between being in Hell and living." He likes how 'edgy' they look now, with their permanently bleeding wounds and and arrows stuck in their tails. He especially likes his eyepatch, which he made using the fabric of his jacket. His eye is completely gone underneath it.

Grim... He's secretly very afraid of his current situation. He covers this by reverting to how he was before he found out how good smiling felt. He also becomes a lot more reactive and prone to angry outbursts, one of which resulted in him getting into a fight that damaged his wings. He can't fly properly, but Gnarly's always happy to carry him. Also, he's doomed to smell like piss forever.

Grim and Gnarly are closer than ever in Hell! They're the only guys who have each other's backs. They're in it for the long haul.

IIIIIIT'S SMORMU!

Nobody's quite sure why Smormu went to Hell. I mean, he seems like such a great guy! But he's here. And despite everything, he seems to be doing pretty... well!

When he ran into Charlie- or, well, popped up out of nowhere in front of him, he immediately went to reminiscing about the "good times" with "the gang". Even though he had only met Charlie and Pim, like, once. He acts like he's known them forever. It's pretty... unnerving.

No matter how many times Charlie shoos him off, he comes back. Little menace.

Pim Pimling

Alive and... unwell.

After Charlie dies, Pim carry’s an immense guilt. He blames himself for starting the argument that lead to his death. His grief is inconsolable. He needs something, he needs closure.

So, he begins researching the afterlife. He gets so deep into his studies that he stops showing up to work. Allan and Glep are Not good at making people smile. So, pretty quickly, the Smiling Friends charity shuts down.

Meanwhile, Pim falls deeper. His eyes are strained, he’s needed glasses for a long time but hasn’t gotten new ones since he was a kid. But he needs to see, so he puts on his old pair. He ditches his work clothes, donning a mourning black tee shirt and shorts. No shoes even, just socks. And, of course, the only physical thing he has left of Charlie: his hat.

Charlie Dompler!

The main guy himself!

He's not doing too great.

After being in Hell for an extended period of time, he's slowly developed some more demon-like features, and unfortunate reminders of his death. His horns, tail spikes, and claws are pine tree branches. He also has pine needles all over him, that no matter what he tries, cannot come off. And, of course, the mandatory tail and wings that most demons get.
