Dear Wintersend

My sweet Wintersend teacakes, 

This is my first time entering into an exchange (at the behest of @swordwitch), and as such I am entirely uncertain what to expect. All I know is that I am ready and raring to sit down and pen some sweet odes to our favorite ladies. I can’t wait to see what you kind folks come up with!

I Like: I’m very partial for slow burns, friends to lovers, or strong platonic friendships full of mutual support and in-jokes and pet names. I’m okay with everything from gooey fluff to smoldering smut, but what’s most important at the end of the day is the depth of emotions involved, or the feelings that develop if the characters start with sex and then progress into emotional intimacy and pining. I also love the exploration of established couples (say, Warden/Leliana) as they spend time together and apart, and how they grow individually and as a couple. (Read that as: FULL GO AHEAD on domestic stuff!) It takes some ingenuity to pull me into a modern AU, but I do love sci-fi, and historical AUs, fairy tale AUs, and fantasy AUs - especially if lady knights are involved. I just...really love lady knights and the ladies who love them. Stories told through letters, codexes, and journals are also amazing!  Humor, hijinks, YES. but I’m also not opposed to some of the darker themes and moments in the series, whether its personal issues the characters face or breaking down power imbalances (humans vs elves, mages vs templars, etc) in relationships. In the end, though, I always prefer a happy ending after the dark stuff.  BDSM and most kinks are a-okay by me, and I even love a good dom- or sub-drop or safewords being invoked as long as there’s proper aftercare. Yes - that is implicit permission to be as smutty as you like.  RE: Wardens, Hawkes, and Inquisitors - I love to see other peoples’ OCs coming out to play! However, I prefer WHIs who are not super-aggressive or cold. Also fuck me I love mages SO MUCH and will always pick a mage over warrior or rogue.

I Dislike:  For this exchange, I’m not into characters being unfaithful, but talking with an established partner to bring a new person into a relationship (as long as it’s mutual!) is fine.  Kink-wise, I’m not a huge fan of blood or knifeplay, or anything involving other bodily functions. Non-con and dub-con are hard nos.  Pregnancy or kidfics are also hard nos for me. 

My Prompts:  -Anora Mac Tir/Ser Cauthrien.  I really used to dislike Ser Cauthrien, but as of late she’s grown on me - partially my weakness for the lady knights trope, I guess. What really interests me is her relationship with Anora, especially after Loghain has been deposed and recruited to the Wardens, and with a new King on the throne. I’d really love to see something of mutual support and reminiscing on how things used to be, growing into romance. 

-Mahariel/Merrill  Seeing these two reconnect after the events of DA2, especially if one of them harbored feelings for the other all the way back in the Brecilian Forest, would be lovely. Exploring their relationship against the development of Merrill’s blood magic and Mahariel’s search to cure the Calling, and how they’ve changed since they were young would be just lovely.

-Dalish/Skinner Ah, my girls. I love the juxtaposition of their personalities, in that really great “opposites attract” way. I don’t have a solid prompt for them, but anything involving the girls, the Chargers, and their hijinks would make my day! 

-Inquisitor/Josephine A historical AU. Someone please give Josephine the dramatic historical romance she deserves! Think Pride and Prejudice, but with girls kissing. For reference, I romanced Josie with a mage Trevelyan, but I am so partial to Adaar and Josie it’s not even funny. 

-Leliana Not a ship request, but more of a navelgazey exploration of Leliana’s character. I find her to be one of the most interesting and complex characters in Dragon Age, and I am especially interested in examining her platonic relationships with other women. Namely, her protectiveness of Josephine - I feel like Leliana sees Josephine as someone she’s mentoring, and juxtaposing this against her history of being used and nearly killed by her own mentor, I can see she may still feel some inner conflict over whether or not she really is like Marjolaine. 

I hope these prompts aren’t too vague or too particular for you. If a wild hare of an idea particularly inspires you, I encourage you to go with what feels right and makes you happy rather than sticking stringently to any guidelines I may have set. When all is said and done, I’m going to love whatever you come up with, and I would rather you have as much fun creating it!

Whatever you end up doing, I can already tell you that I am immensely grateful, and excited beyond words to see what you’ll create. And likewise, I am just as excited to begin working on prompts for whoever I’m matched with. Thank you, wintersend!
