The Fluidity of Life Pt.1
This series of nature studies is unique to me and hopefully no one has done anything like it. I look for macro-scapes in nature. Small glimpses into the world that we rarely get to see from our perspective. I like to call it, “In Between the Spaces”. It’s what a bug or a fish or chipmunk might see. It’s what we miss when we stand above nature and fail to see the little dramas playing out beneath our feet. I think this series, shot in New Paltz in a limestone pool at the top of what I like to think of as my private waterfall, express so many ideas for me. There is the macro perspective that I spoke of but there is much more here. There were flowers and leaves drifting by me as I waded through the water. I thought to point my water proof-encased Canon G1X up towards the light. Tadpoles swam beneath my feet and I saw the world from their perspective. Illuminated and transformative, there was a cycle of life and death unfolding with every flower petal that floated by. It was a world distorted by the water, illuminated by the sun with brief moments of clarity that brought my compositions into focus. As the day went on I found more angles to help express this idea, more chaos that felt like order if captured in just the right way. It was a play of light and dark, soft and sharp, warm and cool, abstract and literal. It was everything that an artist tries to express. Every good photograph or painting works with these concepts. Some of these photos may be more successful then others. Some may move you and some might stay with you. I hope that you see the fluidity of life captured here. I hope to do a large-scale show of this series at some point in the future. I hope you enjoy them!

I’m a professional illustrator, designer and photographer. I do these nature studies for the sheer joy of it. I don’t really have the time to update my website with all of them so I’m going to post them here.
I hope that this work shows not only my vision as an artist but also shows my reverence for the natural world.
