After that encounter, Scott began unofficially-officially living with Isaac. There was some type of bond between them partially explainable by the fact that they are both werewolves.

Within the first few days, Isaac notices that Scott has an affinity to animals. It’s great for the work that he has Scott do with him. The barn Scott had first been found in may have been desolate but that was only because it was summer. The cattle on the farm had moved onto to summer grazing pastures. With Scott, chores like moving the cattle from one pasture to another became much easier.

With Scott, life on the ranch became less of a series of never-ending chores.

“What’s up? Werewolf mafia roll into town again?” Stiles questions, closing the lid of his laptop as Isaac’s eyes drag immediately to the cardboard box in Scott’s hands.

“Nah, just got a new roommate,” He says, lifting it up a bit before walking forward and dropping down in the space between Stiles and Isaac. Thigh pressed against his, warm line of heat by Isaac’s side, Scott opens up the flaps lying limp on top of the box to reveal—

“A cat?” Isaac questions, voice taking on a funny tone.

Vestigia terrent: a scisaac almost-Roman AU

For @scisaacweek, and for @spikeface who inspired this many moons ago, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish it in time :/

Scott lives a quiet life with his mother in their farm in the suburb of Beacon Hills, a quiet provincial city near the holy Mons Shasta. Far from the wall, beyond the tombstones that line the main road to the imperial capital of Sacramento, he works his fields and worships the rural gods, the di indigetes that townfolk can dismiss as country bumpkin superstitions.

Meanwhile, Isaac lives in the city, working for his father, keeping the family tradition and honouring their civic duty as aqueduct engineers. He works hard and keeps his head down, dreaming of the one day that he will be able to tell his father that he deserves to be treated like the citizen he is.

One market day morning, as the feast of Pomona approaches, Scott's friend Stiles brings news about a mysterious, gory and gruesome death a few milestones outside the city. What will Stiles' investigation uncover? And what are the mysterious news that Scott has been hearing about a lycanthrope walking out in the fields?

Fate would have it that Isaac and Scott would cross their paths one morning in the forum, just as a curse of the gods descends upon this quiet provincial town.

There are times Isaac is sad, for no apparent reason. He never says why, and he pretends nothing is happening, even if Scott can tell. And it hurts him too, knowing that his boyfriend is having a rough day and is saying nothing. All Scott knows, however, is that he can help him, and give Isaac some time. Let him tag along and laugh half-heartedly at Stiles’ wild stories, and buy him a chocolate bar after lunch. And wait—wait until the inevitable moment when Isaac comes find him for a tight hug and a soft kiss on his neck.

There are times Scott is sad, and Isaac won’t stop until all hell is set loose, because nothing in this world has the right to make his boyfriend sad. But Scott puts a soft hand on his arm and gives it a tiny squeeze, and all of Isaac’s anger vanishes as he searches Scott’s hand with his. And then all is fine again.

PATCHWORK NIGHTS

“Yeah, my bed,” Scott says, before all of a sudden Isaac has a lapful of 16-year-old boy pinning him down after Scott’s jumped into the mix and Stiles starts complaining loudly, “Ow, fuck, get off me, fatass, oh my God—your elbow is digging into my ribs, I’m fragile and you’re going to kill me. Scott!”

Scott just laughs, twisting and turning to make himself comfy in their impromptu—kind-of literal—dogpile.
