Commedia dell'Arte is a very old form of Italian theatre that roughly translates into "Profession of Comedy", bringing us such creatures as the Harlequin and the Pierrot!

It's that time of year again!

Last year I made my first attempt at hosting a month-long drawing challenge! And was predictably unable to keep up...

So this year I decided to make the challenge one-prompt-per-week as opposed to per day, with an extra free prompt on Halloween itself!

What should a first-time clown owner keep in mind that is often overlooked or forgotten?

More often than not, people forget that clowns are social creatures and will need other clowns as companions. Even the usually solitary mime can get lonely!

While it is possible to have a one-clown home, you should be prepared for your clown to become deeply attatched to you, and will probably try and include you in its antics. (I hope you know how to juggle!)

Do you consider any breeds of clown unsuitable even for people with lots of experience?

HORROR CLOWNS

Horror clowns are a common breed that are NOT suitable as pets, companions, or otherwise.

It's like trying to keep a grizzly bear as a pet, except the grizzly bear is capable of malice and hate and has thumbs and can talk and bend time and space to it's will.

(Once again, not to be confused with the incredibly docile and protective SCARE clown)

Can I take my mime swimming?

There's no harm in allowing your mime to enjoy a dip if they're showing interest in the water. However, any clown requires CLOSE SUPERVISION around unfamiliar things.

Introduce them to shallow bodies first, gradually working your way up if they continue to show interest. Eventually, you may even be able to teach them how to properly swim!
