A moments silence (with hope) for the destroyed land of ecosystems. Walking across paddocks of masses of prickly pear cactii, skulls, black berry brambles, the fruits visible but the tangled vines w thorns prevent a feed.
Animal remains ....
I took a walk with dad & Pedro (kelpie. RIP)  across my dads property to the neighbours paddocks that were used up & abandoned - skulls & decayed remains of goats & cows everywhere0 that was just one paddock.
I’ll never forget the looks of desperation in the cows in next paddock as they barrelled down the hill to the fence . They were all black, skeletal, w fly sores. Their eyes all staring at us, pleadingly, & I also saw anger.  We said sorry & dad was emotional & said that he’d personally shoot them tonight, than see them suffer - we weren't in the harsh unforgiving outback-  it’s NSW,  The Hunter Valley.
We talked about how their suffering will only get worser- cargo next, straight to a slaughterhouse, join a miserable lineup, & be next to struggle & cry for its miserable but sacred life.
Dad pointed up to the house on the hill with the manicured GREEN LAWNS & flower beds, cars etc & said he’ll go talk to that bastard.
I had recently studied permaculture, including a lecture on biodynamic paddock rotation for cows.   The Aussie farmer battler is a false culture- blaming Nature, the climate, or the soil - they can spin those stories on print but its all bullshit.
The custodian of this land had failed miserably.
How could they be so out of touch with their land?  Living up on that hill and rather than watching his land and learning it's patterns, most are only looking at newspapers, TV or church leader?
Ignorance, a lack of initiative to explore, study & understand the the complexities & synergies of ecosystems, the moon & water tides, the minerals exchange of plants & animals. Give the land respect to be left wild to work with. Remove the craziness of redesigning it into lush fields of meadow grass, we're not in England .
Our wild Aust native grass weeds hold minerals, most are medicinal for cattle, also provide predators for pests etc ect etc
Instead Farmer is disappointed, broke & exhausted.. & that pointless defeat spirals into the sickening sight of starving cattle. This disrespect travels far into our psyche. Ignorance embedded, the program cuts deep...
And permaculture is still hardly known about where i live
biodynamic - most scoff at the name, while they live on Pasteurised strains of factory force milking muck.
