amount of sleep: Hmmmm depends on the day of the week really. Yesterday i went to sleep at 2 am and woke up at 12 pm (since i’m home and all that). I can sleep up to 15 hours when I’m in vacation mode. But in school days (If insomnia does not hit me like the motherfucker that it is) I sleep around 7-8 hours. And on normal weekends I tend to go to sleep around 2-4 am and wake up at like 12-1 pm. 

My sleeping habits aren’t…. very good to say the least.

Behind the Scenes(Part 3/3) Ch 16: Nightmare

Ao3 Detroit Become Human Fanfic: So what’s it like to have a sister?

Soooo drumroll this final piece on CH16 is the potential sibling dynamic between Connor and Alina after my other post 

THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS CHAPTER SO MUCH! This chapter is a very critical change in their dynamic from just friends to close friends, potential for best friends relationship and sibling-like relationship in the future.

If you think about all 16 chapters of this story so far, Connor’s social circle consists of: Hank(his dad), his DPD co-workers and his Jericho android friend-acquaintances.

Alina’s role right now is something different, she takes the role/place of an actual genuine friend. She’s someone that he doesn’t HAVE to talk to about cases or work-related business, their relationship is built around being able to relax around each other. They walk Sumo together, they play video games, they cook together and watch TV shows together. It’s a different dynamic compared to Connor’s relationships to his original social circle. The role of a regular friend is something most people usually have, but in Connor’s case Alina is in fact his first real friend in a way. 

He has Markus and the others, but it’s not the same dynamic. To Connor, the place, Jericho, relates to a sense of duty and interlaced with gulit. 

It also can be implied so far in the chapters that the only person that Connor has told so far about his secret, basically Amanda being his AI handler and mind controlling him to shoot Markus, is probably Hank. It’s clear that Connor is uncomfortable around Jericho and in his attempt to be truthful to his Jericho friends/acquaintances that he freezes up. Also this topic is something you don’t really bring up to co-workers. So the only 2 people that know about his secret is Alina and Hank.

So this chapter changes his relationship to Alina, in the sense that they have a much stronger bond built on the idea of trust. When Connor was his most vulnerable, because Hank wasn’t there to comfort him, Alina took Hank’s place-which is why he is able to reveal such a closely guarded secret to her.

Connor tells her “I’m dangerous, you shouldn’t be near me.” 

Her reply of “No, you’re just Connor” symbolizes her change of seeing Connor as just a person with their own set of strengths and weaknesses instead of a video game character. For Connor and Alina, these set of words mean, ‘you are not defined by your job as a DPD detective, ur past as a CyberLife machine. you are just Connor, a person trying to live their life’

Behind the Scenes(Part 2/3) Ch 16: Nightmare

#4 So going off of #3 from the last post I made on how Alina handled Connor being in a nightmare: ‘going into a mini-panic moment, seeking help and didn’t get it so she did her best’. It unintentionally XD ended up being a mirror scene to an older chapter, don’t remember the exact number, but the chapter where Alina had a flashback to when she was 12 and alone at home while there was a blackout during a thunderstorm. You can see her resourcefulness when she uses her tablet n phone as a flashlight, she tries calling her mother for help countless times, but gets no reply. So in the end she kinda gives up on the idea of help. 

We see this again in this chapter, she tries calling for Hank but gets no reply and she’s the only one that can sorta help Connor in the end. Only for both adults in both situations, in the past being her mother, the present with Hank-to show up after the worst has past and rush to the aid of their kids while looking all disheveled.

To some extent this only serves as a sort of reinforcement for what Alina already knows-the only one that can help you oftentimes-unfortunately, is yourself. And it serves as a fodder to her already very independent nature(ex.cooking food, doing laundry, cleaning the house). From the outside eye, if you have a teenager that willingly does all this and even more-you would say ‘damn, you did a good job raising that kid’, but in this case the opposite is true. She has these habits BUILIT into her bc she had no one to rely on, she had to step up bc she had no choice-this was for her survival in a sense. Her dad was a gambler and away, her mother was always working. Alina HAD to step up. In a way, part of her background of this was formulated with the idea of what many working and middle class family kids experience in their daily lives.

#5  Alina seeing Connor as more than just a video game character. Basically the 4th wall breaking in a sense. Reading a fanfic, observing a fanart and watching a thematic video game sequence is very much different from seeing something in real life. And XD within the fandom definitely there is a lot of Hurt/Angst Connor themes, and its definitely a very popular category. However, it becomes very much scary, if imagine in real life you have a friend that’s stuck in a nightmare, hyperventilating, crying, thrashing about in their sleep. And in this case, we know if stress hits 100% androids self-destruct, which Connor was very close to since his nightmare had Amanda forcing him to kill his friend, dog and dad. From Alina’s POV, this is one of the defining moments that sort of transforms how she sees Connor- Connor’s not just a character she fangirls about, he’s a REAL person in front of her that is suffering and needs help.

Behind the Scenes(Part 1/3) Ch 16: Nightmare

So hello and welcome to another behind the scenes, this ch16 behind the scenes will be super long XD

So #1, lol i guess, why did I input an audio song into this chapter? Well, I wanted to do something special for the chapter is one reason, and I wanted to try out ao3′s other options. The other reason why to mirror/echo what connor was experiencing in his dream sequence and I thought it would be cool if while reading you heard the song to immerse readers even more into the story. I dont think it turned out tht way bc the audio file html wasn’t really cooperating with me a lot of the time.

#2, why 1 week into story did I choose to have the nightmare sequence? Can you even become that close within a week span? So I choose 1 week because there are other plot points that need to occur at specific dates further down the line and this also helped things become more organized on my end XD And yes, people can become close within the span of a week, especially if you’re like living with them XD Which is why we have 15 chapters of sort of “Slice of Life” material

#3, RA9, the dream sequence on both Connor’s and Alina’s end was such a pain to do XD especially having to line up Connor’s dream sequence line up with what Alina was experiencing in reality. So my estimate based off the top of my head, is that Alina found Connor in a nightmare state at approximately the time in his dream sequence when Amanda was dragging him down into the Zen Garden lake. The scene was mirrored in reality when Alina found Connor twisting the blankets around him and entangling himself basically. 

For me, initially I was going to have the chapter transition from Connor’s dream to Alina waking him up. I played around with the idea of whether we would stay in Connor’s POV the entire chapter or switch to Alina’s POV when he woke, whether or not we’ll get a bit of Hank’s POV on the catastrophe-like voicemail he received on his end. I decided on the switch from Connor’s POV to Alina’s POV to show that this was indeed a dream sequence and not Amanda ACTUALLY taking over Connor’s body. It also provides much more visualization and reasoning on why Alina made the decision to sing Connor a lullaby. She didn’t just decide outright, she had her own mini-panic like moment, she sought help and didn’t get it so she did her best.

Chapter 16: Nightmare Fun Fact #6

So there is a lot of layers to this chapter, but for the short fun fact sake Imma keep this short XD

Um, so originally when Connor was in his nightmare scene and Alina was tryna wake him up. The original lullaby sequence idea popping into Alina’s head was a memory of her mother calming her down from a nightmare. The reason why I changed it to Alina getting the lullaby idea from daycare work was to emphasize the fact that Alina was usually alone at home and so she didn’t have the experience of being able to wake someone up from a nightmare. It’s an emphasize on that fact that she was always kinda alone to some extent and always had to figure things out on her own because she had no choice and no adults around her to do so. I could have gone the mother’s lullaby route for a plot point later on; however, I just decided sorta in the moment while writing for it to go with this.
