Infographic Detailing the Major Threats of the Animation Industry
And what these threats are defined as.
Tumblr media
Above here is an infographic the admin of this account created. Though the Animation Guild and the AMPTP reached a tentative agreement, it is always wise to know what’s at stake in the remaining days of negotiations. This infographic details the main things that are currently threatening the animation industry.
Job Creep: This unethical practice in the job market is defined as employees getting extra tasks that were not apart of their job. For example, a storyboard artist that gets the additional load with a job someone else was assigned to such as painting backgrounds or writing the script of an episode.
Outsourcing: This is when companies hire third parties to do jobs that usually their employees would be paid to do.
Generative AI: Artificial Intelligence has been in the mainstream since 2022, and with its rise in popularity also comes unethical uses of it. One such is using AI to copy human artists’ styles and regenerate junky soulless garbage.
Massive Layoffs: This is when large numbers of employees are terminated within a short period of time. With merging of companies like Warner Bros and Discovery, massive layoffs ensued. It was reported that about hundreds to thousands of employees were let go once demon millionaire David Zaslav got control of Warner Bros.
Cancelling Media: This is when shows/movies are shelved, cancelled, or removed from all storefronts. The work done by several artists for months or even years just gets thrown out by corporations for the sake of more profit and the fear of losing their customers. One highly beloved show was the unfortunate victim of this phenomenon: Infinity Train.

Animation vs AI Meme
Made using the meme creating app Mematic
This meme talks about how corporations/streaming services that promote animated content have been trying to merge with each other to lay off employees and replace those same workers with generative AI. All of this in the name of a faster way to get profit.

Happy Taggy GIF
A short GIF the admin of this account created on Procreate.
To show the success of TAG and AMPTP coming to an agreement, I created this short form gif of the Animation Guild’s mascot Taggy being joyous at the news of this update!
As for how it’s going now, the first Town Hall on the tentative agreement occurred this past Wednesday December 4th! This event was an opportunity for members of the Animation Guild to ask questions and learn about the tentative contract and negotiation progress. No major news has occurred other than this, but there are two other Town Halls occurring Tuesday December 10th, and Thursday December 12th!
For now, please enjoy this cute GIF of Taggy showing their support for the Animation Guild!

Some news on the latest Marches
In the past several weeks, The Animation Guild has marched on two major companies as negotiations between TAG and AMPTP remained stagnant.
The first march happened on October 24th, where many members of the union, fans, family, and friends signed a petition and marched on Netflix Headquarters in Los Gatos, California. Here, they stood demanding for a fair contract for animation workers. Among those individuals who participated in the march was Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch. He posted on his Instagram story of him being there and saying “If the AMPTP won’t BUDGE, they’re NOT GETTING our LABOR”. Major speaker of The Animation Guild Mike Rianda also spoke out to the group on his support for the guild and the constant fight for animators to get a fair contract without AI getting into the business.
The second march occurred this past Tuesday, November 12th. This time there were animators marching on the Dreamworks Studio in Glendale, California. At this rally, no one notable of the animation industry was there, but TAG member Michelle Drennan spoke to hundreds of Animation Guild members outside Dreamworks before the Guild delivered a petition to Dreamworks executives. The Dreamworks march occurred in the same way the Netflix march happened, again reminding corporate bosses of these companies that animation workers deserve a fair contract with fair wages and protections against AI. It is also noted that an ABC7 News truck was there and reported on this march to the news.

The Cover of the Zine, The Art of Animation…IS UNDER ATTACK!
Illustrated in Procreate
Featured cartoons: Powerpuff Girls, Wile vs Acme, Infinity Train, Summer Camp Island, Close Enough, The Fungies
This illustration is the front cover of the zine. It depicts the iconic Powerpuff Girls triplets up face to face with problems of the animation industry in the form of villains attempting to take over Townsville. In the middle, there’s a huge bonfire in which some beloved cartoons are going up in flames thanks to the actions of such issues in the animation industry.
The villains on the right side are not only problems within the animation industry, but also perpetrators of such problems. Big companies like Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney are some of the major culprits depicted in this piece. The biggest bad of them all is the giant robot, the AI. This robot represents how companies are quick to switch from hard working humans to soulless generative AI, and how the cause of this is making many workers lose their jobs.
