On March 16, 2012 from 6p-10p community arts organization Little Black Pearl (LBP) will host its next installation in its new quarterly series featuring live poetry, arts and music performances entitled Black Unplugged. This intimate series is a unique blend of the arts and community spirit which embodies the mission of LBP. The next event will feature George Duke, musician and song-writer, producer.
Hosted by acclaimed singer and songwriter Nona Hendryx, Black Unplugged is an exciting series of performances produced by Grammy award winning musician Terri Lyne Carrington. Neo-soul vocalist Lizz Wright will also be featured as well in this next concert of the series.
“Black Unplugged is a dynamic blending of the arts meant to engage and inspire the community,” explains founder and executive director Monica Haslip. “Art is a catalyst for dialogue and change which can happen when we are introduced to new ideas, thoughts and music.”

PUMA Africa includes a collaboration with New York artist Kehinde Wiley. As one of the world’s most sought-after artists, Wiley’s work stands apart – depicting contemporary African American men in poses taken from the annals of art history, while incorporating a distinctive use of elaborate, graphic and colorful wallpaper-like backgrounds. This vibrant new line is inspired by his work, The World Stage: Africa Lagos-Dakar, and features West African textile prints. Kehinde has also been commissioned by PUMA to create four original portraits, featuring three of Africa’s most decorated football players.
