Summary:

A really fast read with a really cute relationship. Of course, there are some details that I didn't like, like the 'villain characters'. They were really two-dimensional characters, they were just bad, no depth. Additionally, this novel is not for readers that want to see each step of the relationship in detail, the relationship between the main  characters is told without much delay,there are literally 10 chapters between the boyfriend stage and the marriage stage. However, I don't think it was rushed and the story also has lots of things that I enjoyed, like Chi Le pampering his 'wife', even when he discovered that he was an alpha.

Dad: Don’t panic, it’s okay if you didn’t do well in the exam. Dad just ordered a new sports car for you.

Granddad: Grandson, there’s no need to hurry. It’s alright even if you didn’t do well in your exam. Granddad bought a new yacht for you, come and take a break.

Grandpa: Grandson, don’t cry, it’s okay if you didn’t do well in the exam. Grandpa’s billions-worth of properties are all yours.

With a blank expression, He Shen threw his 2.5 Yuan worth bottle of drink into the trash.

Hold your horses! Comfort?

Rating: 8.5/10

This was a light read, it can be finished in a few days and it's not fast paced, so even if you let the reading fever rest for some time you can just continue where you left without much problem.

The main character, Qiao Shao, is a kind and smart teenager with severe PTSD. The story is his road to recovery told by an omniscient narrator. However, this is not a sad story, it's filled with sweet moments thanks to the new friends Qiao Shao makes and He Shen, his seatmate.

If you are looking for a 'dog blood'* story, this is not one of them, dear reader. But, worry not, dog lovers! It has enough 'dog food'* to satisfy you!

Clarifications:

Dog blood: Lots of drama and cliché scenes.

Dog food: Neologism that refers to the self-pity of single people (humorously dubbed “single dogs“) triggered by the public displays of affection by couples online or offline.

Demonic Lord: This Venerable also wants to know. I moreover want to know why exactly I like her?

The very self-aware Lord of Demons, in order to figure out why the female lead hates herself, carries out a heartless interview with the novel’s entire cast.

The Lord of Demons, after obtaining the book, finds out that after he died in order to save the female lead, the quiet and devoted number four male lead, his subordinate Yin Hanjiang, went dark and did everything he could to take the female lead down with him.

Lord of Demons Wenren È: Yin Hanjiang, this Venerable would really like to know why you keep trying to kill the female lead.

Yin Hanjiang is silent.

Wenren È: If you don’t speak, this Venerable will cut off your tongue and have it with wine.

Yin Hanjiang: …

Wenren È: Why are you blushing?!

Rating: 10/10

This novel is one of the best I have read this year and I'm definitely going to reread it.

It has everything a good novel should have: An interesting and finely wrapped plot, deep characters, a wonderful romantic subplot and humor.

Yeah, you read right: 'a romantic subplot'. The romance is not the main focus of the story but the plot (quite literally). However, that just makes the reader treasure every sweet moment this beautiful couple has and, additionally, the slow burn allows this two characters that are discovering love to transform into deep characters with a greater understanding of each other.

The rest of the characters are also very well rounded and the translator (mourningcrow) is one of the best I've ever found.

Therefore, if you're looking for a wuxia* novel with a delicious spoon of romance, a pinch of hilarity and an awesome plot as filling, this is for you!

- Wuxia: Genre of Chinese fiction concerning the adventures of martial artists in ancient China.

Fox Demon Cultivation Manual

Synopsis:

By some freak coincidence, Song Ci mistakenly consumed the blood of the Demon King, causing himself to become a demon too. A weak scholar…… forced to suffer in silence.

What was even more tragic was that no matter where he went, demons would attack him from all directions braying for his blood, or they would squeeze his neck while interrogating him about his relationship with the Demon King.

As such, Song Ci became an anti-fan of the Demon King. Regardless of who praised the Demon King, he would be the first to stand out and refute them.

Song Ci fled for his life as he searched for the gate leading to the Demon Realm. Along the way, he clung on to the thigh of an influential man, and went to great pains to persuade him to slay the Demon King together with him and restore peace to the human world.

-Song Ci, “Sooner or later, I will skin the Demon King, rip the tendons off him, and drink his blood!”

-Rong Bai (smiling), “I admire the way you think.”

Who knew that, after entering the demon realm —

Tens of thousands of monsters bowed their heads and kowtowed to this thigh beside him and shouted “Long live the Demon King!”

Song Ci was stunned.

-Rong Bai (smiling), “What did you say you were going to do when you came to the Demon Realm?”

-Song Ci, “It, it’s all a misunderstanding……”

Rating: 6.5

The first half of the novel was really good, fun and filled with adventures and new characters with new and exciting stories.

I have called this part in my head as: "The Demon King and his oblivious future boyfriend are the best wingmen of the realms"

However, as we start the part in which Rong Bai's past is revealed, things start to change. The best comparison I have to the rest of the book is as if different fabrics were stitched together.

[WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD]

Firstly, there is time travel, which I can understand and accept, to some point. Then, Song Ci comes back to the present, goes to his hometown, takes a trip down memory lane and becomes a full demon who doesn't care about Rong Bai's wellbeing.

He stays that way for some time (in the book), in which he chains Rong Bai in a room and let's him almost die. In the last chapter (of the main story, not the extras) he comes back to his sunshine self and they life happily ever after.

The story itself was really good and the world building too, but I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed at how things turned out.

*Additional details: This novel is the second part of a trilogy, but the different parts can be read separately.
